    SSD 12 OR Q12

I would steer clear of the USamps XT Series. It was line they released to try and snag a share of the budget market, so they are decent, but no great. I think a new SAE-1200 or used SAZ-1500 would be a great choice. they actually are pretty comparable on paper, too.
  2. i am all about the bargain shopping thinking of trying to snatch up a bunch of these subs for the 69/each plus shipping. The G35 guys always buy these tiny sealed boxes and finally i found a sub that works well in them and is reasonably priced. I installed another one of these boxes with the IDQ v3 10" in a single cutout a month back running off a 500/1. These are very, very similar in sound but get a bit louder and seem to get every bit as low. not bad at all for the money and the fact that they have the same amount of airspace for the pair as the single idq
  3. well considering your setup i would say that the SAZ1500's will make as much or more real world power in your specific application for 2 reasons. The first reason being that i believe the MA amps are overrated, and the second being that you can only provide enough current to make X amount of power, and the sundowns will be more efficient so you will gain more from your current setup. If you had 16 volt electrical system i would say otherwise.
  4. Well the MA Audio specs are so screwy it was hard to get an actual indication wof the real world power, i don't know how you have them wired, either. how are they set up?
  5. How about gettting a couple of SAZ-1500's for now, you can strap them them and run 2 ohms and should see about 800 watts per sub

can you guys do a recone for this sub?

I actually ran into a friend yesterday and he said that he as a soundsplinter RL-S 12" (i think he meant the RL-P though) that has a blown voice coil that he will GIVE me. I still want to learn to recone so maybe thats my best bet. You guys offer the recone parts for those?

    anyone heard of hooker audio?

i may have been misinformed but i was always under the impression that subs will unload HALF AN OCTAVE below tuning frequency? i have always set my SSF accordingly and so far so good. usually i would go about 10 hz below tune

    anyone heard of hooker audio?

iirc they are a kinda crappy brand, but i'm sure that will do the job fine, there is not much to it. you could even make your own
  10. I can get a pretty good deal on an 05 XXX 12 from my friend right now. it's a d2 so that means that i will have to mod my amp to run it, but i should be able to push it pretty well with my amp at 1 ohm (probably around 1600-1800rms) Would that be enough airspace to run it with a couple 6" aeros? also basically i would be paying about what a base model Q costs so i think it is safe to say that from an investment standpoint its a pretty good deal, since i will most likely be able to recoup all of that when i drop it for the Xcon
  11. I am still up in the air about what i want to do with the limited amount of space i have available in my car. i remeasured everything and i realistically have about 3.5 cu ft gross to work with. I am pretty decided on building a nice baffle and facing into the cabin with subs. not sure if i should port forward or into the factory 6x9 openings in the rear deck. If i port forward, i am not sure if i should go with aeros or slot it. if i did it through the rear deck i guess that i would have to do aero ports. As for subs, i can either go dual 10" or 1 12, maybe 2 12"'s if they are lower Qts. This is a temporary install as well, but i need it to be somewhat decent. So i guess those are the questions...is firing forward going to work well on a car with seats that are up 90 percent of the time? i would probably only fold them down when i am showing the stereo. If i do leave the seats up when firing forward, would i benefit more from installing the aeroports through the factory openings in the rear deck? given the space, would it make more sense to go with aeroports so i do not sacrifice as much airspace due to the displacement? Do i go for 2 10" drivers, or 1 12"? or do i try to cram 2 12" drivers in there? Again, it's doable but tight

can you guys do a recone for this sub?

That's it? I'm just wondering WHY? Does it matter? They probably don't have the parts for that VERY specific driver. That's all I was asking, if they didn't have the parts or if they don't know how to recone it. Not a woofer in the world that we don't know 'how' to recone... It's a matter of rockford using different Chinese tolerances...coils simply will not fit as they are not american standard parts (3.000") Best of luck getting a recone for it...i'd be willing to bet that they do not supply any recones at all for them. Probably just ship out new woofers you are exactly right about that in regards to the difference in VC diameter, i thought this was a 3"? no? could i have the woofer machined to accept something different or would that be ridiculously wasting money for something that is not worth it?
  13. the problem with this car is that it rattles/flexes like crazy with even my single sealed 10" so while i planned on doing some deadining, i was trying to minimize that. japanese cars are built like sardine cans, so the metal is real thin and just made cheaply. i figured firing into the cabin was bes as long as the trunk would be well sealed?

    Need advice on Highs

the problem for him, and me as well, is that there really aren't many places to audition anything but a few of the more mainstream component sets around i think. i just look for what gets consistently recommended by people who seem to give unbiased advice, that being said i am going for a set of the less expensive seas textile domes that i have heard nothing but good about, and a set of AA carbons or the ID oem/cx64 mids that are kicking around on driver. I know that no matter what it won't be any worse than what comes in my stock bose system, and honestly if it sounds as good as the old diamond audio hex's i had i will be happy.
  15. i'm not sure of the reps name that i spoke with, just called the RF tech line. if you know where to get the parts i'd appreciate the help. i don't wanna throw this thing out cause i liked it, just sucks that it's such a PITA to service. i have always had better luck with RF on amps than on subs.
  16. As some of you know I installed this 10" rockford T2 a few weeks back, wasn't that impressed at first and then i started to like it. anyway, i just picked my car up from the dealer, first thing i notice when i turn on stereo is NO bass, i stop to check all the connections, settings, etc. the basics. everything looks good. get home and put the DMM on my rca's and i can see the amp is getting signal. check the wires coming from the sub. no reading at all. so i'm like WTF and i pull it out of the box. there are NO signs of any kind that would indicate damage. rockford does a pretty good job of concealing all the important parts of their subs, but the portion of the VC that i can see through the vent looks good, spider seems fine, no mechanical issues, no smells. just both coils don't register on my DMM. I'm so mad right now, any idea what could have happened?
  17. it's reconable if i can find the parts somewhere. RF says they don't do recones but normally offer an exchange program and when i told him i already removed the surround and spiders he just said "oh" and referred me to his place "the speaker exchange" who then told me the parts were on backorder for anything compatible and not to be hopeful on getting them soon. i guess it just goess to show the benefit of dealing with companies like FI,AA, SSA, etc. This is supposed to be their "flagship" subwoofer, but when it fails you are SOL. Other drivers that a third of the price have recones out to you in a week. Just sucks for me i guess. On another note, my friend has a 13w7 and dented up his dustcap. JL wanted almost street price on the sub to do a recone, like 400 and change :/
  18. Working on some fiberglass corner enclosures on an upcoming build for someone and i noticed that the corners that they will be installed in are slightly different. since i was going to begin by making the backs to rest perfectly flush i am wondering if having slightly different airspace for each side, say .1 of a cubic foot. would cause problems. I would say the left box will be about .9 sealed and the right would be about 1.0 if anything. should i add an extra piece of MDF to the bottom to compensate? i didn't know is the different Fs would cause some type of clash in the response
  19. uuughh i meant gross. i must have been typing too fast

The "X"con 12" prototype has arrived

any chance that if i come down to maryland i can hear it sometime?
  21. anywhere from like 30-35 should be fine for a daily driver...
  22. Yeah i figured that to be the case, it's just frustrating because now its just a paperweight. if i paid anywhere near retail for it i would be REALLY mad
  23. manbeer

    what would be louder

if you only have 8 cubes i would keep it sealed.
  24. nice! i know my friend is ready to order 2 and i can't wait to hear them!
