  1. So I'm good at building enclosures.....calculating ported enclosures? Not so much. I've just bought a new tow vehicle and using some budget equipment to put a nice setup in it. These are new items I've had laying around to put into a project car I'm building that won't be finished for a while. Vehicle : 2004 Escalade ESV (Suburban sized one) Location in the vehicle: Rear hatch, against the 3rd row. Want to keep some cargo room Space available (Length x Width x Height): 46" wide is set. 16" deep is set. The height is my variable. 20" is maximum. All dimensions are internal. Subwoofer make and model: Subwoofers are JBL GTO 4 ohm models Subwoofer Size: 12" Number of Subwoofers: 4 Type of Port (Kerfed, Slot, Aero, etc.): any but prefer slotted (Subs up, port back. Box against the 3rd row seat to leave room for cargo against the hatch) What type of music do you like?: Rap BUT I hate the rattle trap boom that most rap fans like. Is your goal SPL or Everyday Music?: Everyday music Tuning Freq (Hz): 30 Volume : ? Questions: So, recommended enclosures from JBL are 1.75 cuft. This INCLUDES driver and port displacement. The recommended port is 4" round x 10" long which tunes it to 34 hz. My questions are: Has anyone built a ported enclosure for these subs? If so what was your size/results? If I go with recommended enlosure, how to I go about doing the port? I'd rather do a single port, not 4 individuals. Any suggestions? P.S. Subs will be on 1800W for all 4. Thanks in advance
  2. Hate to be a dick but how did you NOT notice that lol

Going from an Xcon 15 to 3 SA-8s

As far as fitting a 12 I could make it fit it just won't really fit the look of the trunk well. I'll keep looking.

That's what I'm looking for thanks guys. Its just a show car, not a comp car. Couldn't care less about car audio contest. No offense if you do, I just never really got into the competition part to me it's about the music.

Going from an Xcon 15 to 3 SA-8s

Don't really have the room for another big single woofer. The space is limited by height, probably need to go 3 10s at the most. I've installed hundreds of systems since the early 90s, I understand the "many variables"; it's a basic question really. I'm not saying "Will I gain .3 decibels if I do X", simply ballpark, are the SA-8 able to perform in the same league as an XCon. I've never heard any SA drivers, the SA-8s just fit the physical size requirement.
  6. So I'm running an Xcon 15 ported in my daily driver right now. I am thinking of picking up 3 SA-8s to put in a new project car. What type of output difference is there gonna be? This is strictly for music, I just don't want to be in the daily, then hop in the show car and think "This sucks!" Both cars are big Cadilllacs. Any input?

    SSA Xcon or FI Q

Having an Xcon 15, I highly doubt your factory speakers will keep up. Either plan to update them later or get a smaller substage
  8. good to see a Layitlower spreading things around to other forums. Funny reading the comments here about the car. I'm using those amps in my daily, love them.
  9. I have plenty of clamps and wood glue, thanks. When I build a box I just use all the screws I buy, no need to have them laying around.
  10. I'll post some pics when I'm done with the install. I need to build some beauty panels and cover the madness of cables. It's in an 04 Deville, I wanted to still have a lot of trunk left, with 4 amps, and electronic xover and the sub enclosure, so it was a lot like putting 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag. And yes, I'm very pleased. I tend to be disappointed with every subwoofer install because it's never "enough" but this is very close to being too loud and it's not even started to loosen up yet. I can't even begin to imagine anyone not being happy with these subwoofers unless you just wanted it louder, and 2 of these should make you poop your panties.
  11. for my ears that is. I am 32 years old, had dozens of set ups and this thing blows me away. The only thing that I think could have possibly been louder was my first "Big" set up with 6 12s. But this was like 14-15 years ago, and my memory may just be fuzzy. After a 5 minute run around the block at full tilt, I felt slightly nauseous. It's on 1500 watts, ported at 32 hz in the recommended enclosure, firing forward sealed off from the trunk. No pics since my install isn't done. Just wanted to say this thing is violently loud and awesome.

8" mid-bass drivers to keep up with xcon

Used these in a few cars, and they are currently in my doors.........awaiting the intall of my own 15" Xcon........haven't heard them together, but the 8" are very very competent and I have no reason to think they won't keep up Peerless 8
  13. Ok guys, I'm not an idiot, my meter is faulty. I know most people online are noobs at this, so I understand where you're coming from, but ive been doing this nearly 20 years. Anyone here could have a piece of equipment act weird.

    xcon impedence question

Bad thing is its a nice fluke meter. I think one of the leads may be messed up, gonna try that first.
