This build log will hopefully provide enough information to those folks who are interested in the SPL-12 for high volume car audio use. The criteria consists of: - Mach 5 SPL-12 wired for 4 Ohm use - 3.8 cubic foot bass reflex enclosure tuned to 46Hz - 2001 Pontiac Bonneville - Crest CPX-3.0 PA amp providing 3000 watts power into 4 Ohms - CD source with all necessary test tones - TermLab ****************************************************** Here starts the frankenbox Frankenbox meet frankendriver Box inside trunk Details Box tuning turned out lower than expected as the impedance measurement shows below. The port tuning ended up being 40Hz and not my expected 46Hz. F…

So we sent the prototyes of the FL1 and FL2 to Robin at BHE to test for us a few months back and since were new here I decided to post the results here. I had also sent the FL2 down to Taylor Fade in Baton Rouge to test as well. So here are the results that they came up with. Robin from BHE results were: Both amps were set to no distortion using the SMD-DD-1, and they were done in a vehicle that we build using a pair of PSi Platform 1's (750rms subs) and they took it like champs! the FL2 starting .25 and rising to 1.02 ohms put out 3416 watts on 10.4V the FL1 starting .25 and rising to .76 ran an astonishing 2996 watts with the voltage dipping down to 11.3V Taylors re…

I should have some information up tomorrow for the IXL-15.2.2. It will begin with a EB-based design with some real-life measurements. I will follow through in the coming days with some testing of the IXL in-car. Nearfield, frequency response, impedance and other info will follow. Best, Mark

I haven't had a system in my dd for a few years now. I drive nearly 1,000 miles a week so I am in need of something. I normally have a lot of junk I need for work so this install will save as much space as possible. Through out the build I will show step by step some of the techniques I learn over the years. Factoy interior, hopefully the end result will look like this as much as possible. spare tire location under false floor false floor removed farm6.static.flickr.com/5267/5666965605_2a85e9c267_m.jpg tire cover removed. tire will remain remember this is a daily driver. jack and such will go in side pockets by the tire well the sub the sub will go somewhere in…

Well Quentin, things aren't looking so good for squeezing that XCON 15 in my Malibu. I have measured and measured and it would appear that the opening to my trunk is too d**n small for 3.5 cube box ( I calculated 5.3 cubes external : 16.75 x 32 x 17 ported and tuned at roughly 30hz with external flare, double baffle and bracing is added). Inside the trunk there is plenty of room but they made the lid so narrow it appears I have no way to squeeze it in. Will it play in a small sealed box well enough or should I just port a 12. Remember that I am looking for them deep throaty notes to really shine (similiar to them old round solo-barics, just louder. Or is their a bette…

Hi Everyone, Its taken quite awhile to get this finished, but we are finally there. The IXL-18.4 is now ready for production and I am offering folks a decent introductory price for those of you who want it now. Here are the specs of the driver and a few shots: Fs = 15.4Hz Re = 3.2Ohm Qms = 4.87 Qes = 0.39 Qts = 0.36 Vas = 556L Sd = 1029.2cm BL = 15.1 Mms = 228g Cms = 0.37mm SPL = 89.2 Xmax = 22mm Pre-Order Information This is NOT your typical 'pre-order' process in that 100% paid-in-full funds are being requested. Instead, I am requesting a $20USD non refundable "commitment" deposit (per driver) from those of you who wish to get in on the ground level. In return, yo…

In the next couple of months I will have a line of high performance subwoofers to debut. In anticipation of the new lines I am going to start working on a demo vehicle. But I need some help. Would you rather see a smaller system with say four 12's or 15's with major attention to detail on the installation. Something along the lines of a bagged mini with a blow through. Or a retarded loud spl type set-up. Maybe a astro van with 16 or 20 subs.

Just looking to get some ideas for a killer bass race system. The system will be going into a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT. I really want to do something crazy. I'd really like to do 12 x 15's sealed - but not sure if i have the room (about 42"H x 42" W x 53"L - is about what i have to work with)....so if anyone has ideas of how to fit the 12 x 15's in there let me know.....other ideas are also welcome.....looking at Fi SSD's and Ascendant Arsenals if i'm going with a lot of subs.....also looking at 4 x 18" BL's or Ascendant Havocs. Let me know what you guys think, and if you have any other ideas - dont have a whole lot to spend either.
