I considered IB. It would be an ideal solution. Here are the problems. I can't use the doors, as I'm not willing to modify the stock speaker mounts relative to their depth. The rear deck would work if I could isolate it, but that would require sealing every hole in the sheetmetal, and I'm also not willing to do that, either. I wish the car was more better suited for IB, as that's what I'd definitely go with. Plus, IB can make for terrific SQ. So, a small box in the trunk is my only option. I really wish it weren't. It would solve a lot of problems. BTW, I spent way too much time designing an IB setup for my home sub - the one built into my house - and was made aware that…

Pretty much, yes. I've weighed both. Thankfully, BJ doesn't use MDF. Errr..."HUGE?" It's non-rotational, sprung weight with a low center of gravity. "HUGE" is reducing the weight at the wheel. Let's not talk cars/racing, OK? I truly appreciate your advice. I did consider a single-driver option and decided against it for reasons that are irrelevant at this point. Please see the comments above.

i'm excited, but sad at the same time, can't seem to find LI 12s on the ssa store or any LI sub actually. They out of stock right now? I was going to pickup one or two to start on my build i'd been saving for!

i currently have 2 12" Fi Q's in a monochambered enclosure tuned to 32hz for maximum LSQ but no amps from what people have told me (2x) sundown sae-1000d should be perfect but my question is... if both subs run 1000 rms each, would it be better running (2x) 1000 watt amps or (2x) 1500 watt amps??????????? also, which amps would be ideal if money wasnt an issue? preferably brand name and specific model. thanks a MILLION!!! If you want lightweight, Baltic birch ply in 3/4" will be the same or less weight than a 1/2" mdf enclosure. Considering weight & SQ are your paramount issues, I would 1) Limit the enclosure material weight, obviously IB is best, small sealed 2nd, 2) Pick my driver based on what it can do, but also with enclosure size as part of the equation, 3) Limit the overall weight of the driver as this will make a HUGE impact on the overall weight. So what am I saying? I'd use a different sub and just a single one. That will give you more weight savings than looking at just the thickness of the enclosure. If you do use both, I would argue that you aren't that concerned with …

I've heard a few subs make a funky sound when more power is applied to them that just doesn't sound like the bass the artist put in the song. On low volumes its fine. On higher volumes It sounds like the sub is puking. I hate that sound and i turn the bass down to when its gone. I've heard it mostly on punchy bass, long drawn out bass is usually fine. What causes this, is it when a sub exceeds its xmax or is that overrated in knowing what the sub sounds like as well? That's my only guess. I haven't heard lots of different subs but all the ones i heard did it.

  14. Width: 38" left to right (between wells) Length: 33" back to front Height: 18" top to floor Opening: The 17" is the trunk opening, as if you took a tape and measured from the top of the trunk (weather stripping) to the weather stripping by the rear bumper. The vertical 12" is from the top of the trunk (weather stripping) to where it intersects the horizontal 12" is from the trunk opening from the bumper. I think from the weather stripping to the floor was 20"

Hey, don't be so defensive let's just discuss this. You asked for other ideas, so you are getting them. So let's look at this weight more closely that you want to keep to a minimum. MDF, 3lbs/sq ft, sure Trupan may be 80% of the weight. The box for the pair of 8's will be around .8-.9cuft, so for easy math lets say 1ft (cubed) which is only .67 cuft but with 5 sides the enclosure will weigh 15lbs with MDF and a whopping 10-12lbs with Trupan. Each of your subs is more than the enclosure. If weight were really such a concern, I'd really like to know why using one driver with nearly the same enclosure size and the nearly the same weight wouldn't be actually your goal. Y…
