I've got enclosures fiberglassed into the rear quarter panels of my Tahoe, and can't give up any more of my cargo room. I work as a General Contractor, and frequently carry plywood and sheetrock in the back of the truck. My current Celestion AD15H's sound great with the crossover point set at 40HZ, reproduce the low frequencies with great detail, even with the measly 250 watts I'm sending them each through my Lightning Audio 500 watt mono amp (2 ohm load). The only problem, I've found that they have a tendency to "blatt" (for lack of a better term) if I up the crossover point to even 50HZ. Could this be a result of too little power, too small of an enclosure, too high (or…

Is there any way to find out online the results of an IASCA metering that was done last week at the spring fling carshow? I competed on Sat, but have to leave (**** work), and I never found out where I placed. As of Sat. I was in 1st with a 143.5 in SPL single 15". I looked on the site, but I couldn't find anything other than last years final results. I could be looking in the wrong place though since i'm not to familiar with the site. Thx guys, Vic.

  4. Sealed my box with resin, waited 5 days before I mounted my sub and put the box in my trunk, got in the car the next day and could smell the resin. It wasn't super strong but I could definitely smell it. can the fumes damage my sub? Is the fact that I can still smell it a sign I didn't mix the resin and hardener correctly? It has been cold lately so maybe it isn't curing properly? Should I be concerned?

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. Currently i have 2 12" kicker cvr's powered by a ssl amp. Im planning on changing to 2 12" Fi q's and maybe the bl's. With a sundown amp along wiht components and a 4 channel amp. I will be changing the alternator and the battery also. Does anyone have any info on these subs or a better recommendation for my setup?

When my subs are playing (not on full tilt) sometimes the volume just drops. The music volume stays the same, but the subwoofer volume drops. The amp should NOT be clipping. I set it up for a volume of 30 with the sub level at +6. My usual listening range is a 20-26 with the sub level at -6-0. The setup is two alpine type r 12"s in a 6th order bandpass powered by an old school Lightening Audio 1000D at one ohm. I have a 200 amp h.o alt with NO big three. I can tell you the headunit if you need it.

Hi all- I have been battling with alternator whine for a majority of my car audio hobby. I have tried countless things. I had just made an LC filter to filter out noise in the power line of my radio thinking it was finally it, but unfortuately it remained. Then it dawned on me, I have 2 amps for speakers in my car now and I tried disconnecting the one I've had for years. The noise went away, which is great to finally know what is causing it. The problem is I don't have the cash to buy a new amp for my midbass. Does anyone have any idea where to start troubleshooting inside the amp for something like this? I'm a fourth year electrical engineering student, so I'm quite …

  10. I am making this request on behalf of a customer. He is presently serving in Iraq and under normal circumstances I would ask the customer to provide the measurements of the trunk. The vehicle is a 2002 monte carlo and I am requesting/asking for is the Width, Height and Depth in order to design enclosure to what is recommended or the customers requirements. If anyone would be kind enough to provide the info, I and the customer would greatly appreciate it. Phil Woodlawn Cabinetry

  11. Hello, I recently received a 12" btl. I put it in a well built box (I have pics in the build log section), on a Sundown saz 1500 amplifier. I had a weird noise coming from the speaker at my max volume. Even if I did not change any settings from my previous setup (I had an xcon 15" on it with NO problem), it seems that my gain was too high. I turn it down and everything is good now ! But I want to find good sounding test tones to set the gain right on the amp. Can somebody show me where to find some ? I think in the 50 to 60 hz range. I set the gain by ears, and I will try to see what I can do with a DMM for that. Thanks in advance.

A buddy of mine is looking to upgrade his audio, and between him and I we are trying to get some ideas about what to buy. He has a new(ish) (2004-2006 probably) cadillac escalade. Not positive of the max dims, but I can get exacts if necessary. I'm just assuming similar to most other large SUV's. He is running his stock head unit but willing to upgrade if necessary, which will most likely happen. He is considering (2) 18's or maybe even (4) 15's or 18's. I am looking for suggestions as to what subs and amps to buy, but even more so to what else is necessary to accomodate such a large amount of RMS. He is running his stock alt. So, besides the Big 3 which I know he wi…

  13. Started by QuestionMan,

I'm in the process (literally, just came upstairs to ask this question haha), and i was fitting my marine terminals to my battery. I'm not sure if its a problem, but they don't go down all the way, and even if they could, the bolt wouldn't be able to go through because the holes for it would be so curved. When i bolted it down, it wasn't going anywhere, i'm not worried about that. I'm just not sure if it has to be at the very bottom for the least resistance and best flow So can i leave as is? or should i get new terminals (though i didn't see any bigger than what i have now).

My buddy recently purchased a set of Adire Koda Components. The woofer is going to be placed in the stock door locations. We are just wondering about the tweeter placement. The stock tweeter location is on top of the dash reflecting off the windshield. I know the Kodas work good off axis so I figured the windshield could work well. Any objections or suggestions?

basically, i've had a major drop in bass in my car. i have 2 fi BLs and 2 kicker 1000w amps. initially, i had trouble with my iPod cable(dock to aux cord , the 7$ one from ebay) so i bought a new one. well now all of a sudden, my cds have also lost the quality. the stock speakers in the door hit harder as of right now. when i turn the knob all the way and put the volume up, i finally get what i should be getting at about 1/4 turned. i looked at the amps thinking 1 of them was dead and they both were fine. i dont really know much about wiring but will probably read up on it 2morrow since i will have some free time to look at it, but this is what basically happens http://pi…

  22. Ok, So. I'm going to be getting a 1989 Jeep Cherokee sport soon here, and plan to do a decent build with it. One that I can afford of course. I don't really have a set budget, but I'm just looking for some certain things, and will amass the money over this summer. First of all, I already have a sub for the car, which is currently in my room. 18" Fi SDD (copper coil only) w/ a 9cuft box @32hz. Sounds fantastic off of my receiver in my room. I'm sure it will sound even more fantastic inside of a vehicle with the right amp. I also already have a head unit I got from a friend for cheap, a Pioneer DEH-2100IB. Right now I was looking at the Sundown SAZ-1000D. Seems to be a per…

I bought all of Johnathan Prices' old component sets for a real good price, a few of the crossovers were….. well shitty and unusable. But I am MORE than ok with that. My question is, could I run 2 mids & 2 tweets off one crossover? I wired up a 2 mids & 2 tweets to a crossover to check the ohm load at the “input” space and it was at 3.44ohm. If not then I’ll just run the tweets off radio and mids off 100.4 till I find a cheap 50.4.
