Hi everyone. I'm getting ready to start my build on my 1993 Thunderbird. I've become tired of big subs and big SPL, so I'm shooting for more of a sound quality focus. This will be my first stab at active, but I have decided to go 3-way with it. Go big or go home. I do have quite a bit of experience installing and I do consider myself generally knowledgeable. Now on to what we're working with. The vehicle is a 1993 Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe. All processing will be done up front with a Pioneer Premier 880. The midrange and tweeter will be powered by a Sundown Audio SAX50.4. The midbass will receive it's power from a Sundown Audio SAX100.2. I tend to listen to a …

http://drcrankenstein.com/ as far as I know, these guys were a company in the 80s/90s that have recently came back... there website has been up for a while, but now you can buy stuff... heres a post from Canadian Car Audio forums.. from a while back "Greetings all. This is the formal announcement that the speaker and amplifier company Dr. CRANKENSTEIN has started building products again. We shipped our first product last week in the states. Our efforts have most recently been spent on our home theater loudspeaker company where we were quite content, but due to the ongoing requests from CRANKENSTEIN followers, young and old, we went back into production of the car audio pr…

Now, I don't stalk Steve's videos but i was just looking at one of his videos that he posted up and he explains how his "Clipping Tool" works just like a oscope. I was wondering what you guys thought about this? Personally, i think it's a really cool tool and a great idea. But at the same time i feel like it's Steve Meade just trying to get his name out again and to make more money. Just another ploy really, but it is a valuable tool it seems like. What do you guys think? EDIT: added video

I really cant decide between running 3 6.5's per door or running 3 8's per door. I think the 8's would give a more "full" sound with better midbass. Im still considering running all Crescendo front stage since I have 2 8's in the garage and also have 2 tweeters already. I also already have 2 Rockford 6.5's. So I'm torn which way to go 3 - 8in Crescendo PWX's and 2 FT1 super tweeters per door. or 3 - 6.5in Rockford Punch Pro and 2 PP8-T super tweeters per door. I could do 2 mids and 1 tweeter per door but not sure if it will keep up at 155db+ of bass and I only want to do the doors once. Crescendo's are very heavy, large magnet, 4in deep and the FT1's are relatively…

and i know it boils down to personal preference, but i haven't heard either of the brands outside of youtube, and it's always very distorted because of the mic. and i actually considered basing my decision on which had the most distortion in the vids, assuming that would be the one that hit the hardest! that was actually a joke. anyway, I've reduced my choices to either soundqubed or sundown. I'm getting a 15" sub, (either x-15 or hdc15) and a 2000 watt amp, (either scv-2000 or q1-2200). I've always liked the way jl audio sounded, and initially set out for the w7, but after some extensive research i really like both the sundown and soundqubed. i like the way the soundqube…

Well, this Monday I started my first ever fiberglass project. I am making doorpods for my DLS 6.3 3-way component set. I started the back half fiberglass enclosures. These will be part of the the sealed enclosure for the midbass. I utilized the factory 5.25" mounting cup, and filled it to create half of a sealed enclosure. This mount/enclosure used to bolt to the sheetmetal of the door, and the plastic doorpanel is mounted in front of it. Since this mount is being replaced with the rear fiberglass enclosure, I am guaranteed a perfect fit, dont have to cut any sheetmetal, eliminate depth concerns, and will seriously increase the imaging, depth, etc.. I removed the OEM spe…

Ok so I got my new BTL in today and hooked up. Yes it is a D2 and yes it's wired correctly to 1 ohm. It's in the same box as my old havoc. It's on double the power as the havoc. I have a 225 amp alt and autocracy gold battery. Everything is the same setup as the havoc minus the sub and amp. It's just not that loud... I have to turn the gain up to 3/4 to even get it close to what it used to be. All radio settings are the same. I would think it would be a good bit louder, but it's just not impressing me. Any ideas? I grounds? I checked all x'overs, EQ, settings, etc. I'm lost. 4 volt pre outs.

Hello All... I've been reading through various post to learn more about building a system and now I have a question. In the past I've have built a number of car stereo systems but due to funds I haven't had a system in a long while but now I'm ready to build one up again. I'd like any input on my proposed system. I understand you all have different opinions and experience. This is just what I've come up with my own research. I'll go ahead and leave my list below. If you think it's a good setup feel free to let me know. If you'd take a different approach fill me in. If you think I'd be better off with different hardware like I said it's been awhile and I know things change…

Is it me or does some of our local audio shop now a days don't know squat about car audio. I decided to start this topic so that people can share any of their experiences with your local audio shop about the shear ignorance of some of these people. I'll share first: I decided to call one of my local car audio shops here in houston,tx just to mess with them and see what they really know about audio. ME: I'm running 3000 watts rms and my lights are dimming. what can I do about that. SHOP: "I have some capacitors here that will help with that. 2 5 farad caps should be enough to stop the dimming. what kind of amps do you have? ME: soundstream and sundown audio. SHOP: whats …

Hey guys, this is going to be my first real long post on the boards, I apologize but im trying to get as much information out there to help you help me! (Skip to "cliff" notes/questions at bottom if reading my "book" is just too much) I have been reading up on this topic for the past week and Ive got a pretty good idea on where im going with my setup but its good to hear people's experiences and advice on wether this will really achieve what im looking for. Let me start off by saying that Im not an audiophile (at least I don't think I am , and by that I mean that I probably would not be able to detect minor differences in SQ from one SQ sub to another) but I am looking …

so yesterday, we were chillin, and my buddy spits out, hey i think, wait- i KNOW i want two type x's in my car, when i get the new trans. i said, should be good. now. this is the funny part. he went to walmart to see what they had, in terms of two temporary 12's(something ot listen to while he is fixing up the car) he picked up two pioneer's. only 150 rms each, and only being fed 100 each, they are easily as loud as my other friends two MTX 4500 12's off of 1000w. these pioneers are in a prefab, the MTX are in a custom. can anyone explain this to me? i know there are factors like the shape of the car, but jeez!

I'm looking for a 4gauge wiring kit and since I would need fuses, ring terminals etc, I figured buying a complete kit would be my best bet right? What brand do you guys recommend? I was looking www.knukonceptz.com but their kits come with RCA's, and I already have some DB Link RCA's in the truck. I've heard good things about knukonceptz, but that's because they're good quality and cheap, but if you guys don't recommend them let me know. -John

I recently purchased a new car, one that I would actually be proud to put some money into and I am looking into buying some subwoofers for some extra thump when it comes to my car's audio system. I am on a tight budget knowing I am a college student. I would not mind having two subwoofers, but I know that would be extra money, so even just one sub with an amp would make me very happy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good sub and amp. I dont need top of the line equipment, I just want a sub with some good sound that wont hurt my pocketbook too much. Thanks guys!

Hey Guys, Just thought I would post up my future re-build for the Mazda.. The subs will be Sundown Sa 12's.. I have decided that I'm done with the whole wall thing.. Let me know what you think.. And if anyone wonders how i intend to mount the subs, this is the idea i have come up with.. An access panel..I will be using weather stripping under the panel to make it air tight..

I'm all for measuring. The ear isn't quite cutting. There are many alternatives, believe me, I've used, tried and experimented with. Some of them are free, with save limitations. All of them are complicated with all sorts of calibration requirements and so-forth. Not to mention the mics and external sound cards add up quickly. I'd like something simple and fast. I dig the term-lab but the cost to play is serious. I came across this alternative . It looks promising. I did a quick search here and saw it's been mentioned a couple of times here and there with no real follow up. I'd like to hear the community's thoughts on something like this. If some one has one, please sha…
