Kinda in a dellema ATM. So my 2 front speakers blew the other day (jbl got 628's 2-ways) so I put the factory ones back in until I figure out what to do. Thing is I got em from best buy and they no longer carry any car audio (in Canada anyways) so they sent me to future shop for a replacement (I bought a warranty so I get a free swap). Annddd future shop doesn't carry those speakers butt they can swap them for something else. So I'm not really sure what to do. Im kinda on the fence on switching to components (leaning more to the I don't wanna side) and am going to buy a 4 channel amp soon. If I was to swap them: http://m.futureshop.ca/defaultpage.aspx?lang=en#/catalog/pro…

So i have started my modified SQ build with a solid front stage going active with an alpine 9887 and mach5 mlis and seas neos all deadened with second skin and now i need a sub stage but i have no idea what to use. I want maybe 2 10s or 1 15 because i would like it to get decently loud but be tight . I listen to rock and rap. I also need another amp somewhere in the 600 watts rms range but im not sure what is good for relatively cheap. My total price range will probably be around 400 i don't really want to go any higher and i don't mind good used equipment. (offers also welcome) space will not be that big of a deal but where i want to build the box is under the rear …

Justin has went to EVERY show, and has gained alot of King of Bass points making him the champion. With each entry he has also gained the most entries to the free SMD subwoofer, thus winning him the SMD woofer in the draw at the end of the show. This goes to show what going to EVERY show and being there each time can get you. Congrats Justin! It pays to support manufactures who support the shows at the roots, this is one prime example!

I was going to get a DCON 12, ported around 30-32hz. I plan to run it off the bridged rear channels of a 4 channel amp. Was going to get the Crescendo 1000C4, but it doesnt have the option to use the HPF as a subsonic filter. Will it really be needed? I like to listen to Bass Mekanik and other artificial bass heavy stuff like that.

  8. I have a 15" AA SMD that's powered by a Stetsom 7k2e. I will gain down to 3500 - 4000 watts @ 1 ohm. Biggest enclosure I can fit in the trunk is 4.5 - 4.6^3 before displacement. The sub will take up .24 cubes and bracing .2 That leaves me w ~ 4.05^3 before port. I'll be using a 6" PSP Aeroport. A few questions I have are 1. Do you find port area in the straight length pipe, or at the very end (diameter of the mouth opening)? 2. My PSP has a 6" diameter straight pipe that flares out to 8" at the very end (on both sides). Which number do I use to find port area? 3. Do PSP's really require half the recommended port area as a slot or straight round port? If this is any h…

I just got a Kicker L7 12 2 ohm and I have an alpine m500 amp, i know its underpowered but it seems to be bottoming out or clipping. It just sounds awful. I dont know if i described this very well just ask and ill provide information where needed. Is it just a tuning problem? Also it will just cut off when the volume gets to loud.

OK, now this is just a give your opinion on this BS. A friend of mine has 4 JL w1v2 12's and a JL 500/1 ported. exact specs on the enclsure i have no idea. He i was talking to him yesterday and he said he drove up to the local audio shop which sapposeably has MECA certified mics. I dont know if this is Term Lab or not. i am assumeing so since that is the organization Alma gates comeats (or compeated) with. anyway, he told me he did a 149.2@ 55Hz. beleiveable but not BSable Today he calls me saying he went up there agian and did a bunch of runs. he averaged at 151.3...still beleiveable depending on the box. but then he goes on to tell me on a bass track song he did a 157.1…

i thought i was done deciding on my new setup but something else crossed my mind, and now I need a little help choosing. I'm gonna be running the SSA Dcons which are 300 rms a piece. My amp is the Elemental Designs Nine.1(1200 rms). Instead of building the system around the car I've decided to get a car around my system, though the car will probably be around a 95-97 Cutlass Supreme or Monte Carlo. The new dilemma I have is I want something different than the usual, which will be 10's I just can't decide on 3 or 4. I know that in a trunk car subs back port back is louder to the ear (the three tens) but if I did four 10's sub up port back would that be louder since there w…

As you have probably heard, some people say that too little power can blow speakers. Well... How can I say this... BS!!!! Too little power will only cause the maximum output level to be low. Abuse and the defective 'wing nut' (an idiot) connected to the volume control blow speakers with low powered amplifiers. If driving a speaker with low power would cause them to fail, speakers would fail every time you lower the volume on the head unit. I will try to explain what happens when speakers are driven with clipped signals but remember... you get what you pay for. Note: This page deals mainly with speaker damage that involves thermal damage of the voice coil. Speakers can…

Ok heres the beef n chedda In a trunk orientated system how does a (side ported) enclosure perform v/s (sub back port back) or (sub forward port forward) or (sub back port up) for SPL or SQ applications. Example: Kicker DCVR122 v/s DIY DCVR12 enclosure in various port sub positions already mentioned.

  15. Going for a two way set-up. I think I can make 8s fit, but it will be a pain in the ass in my little car, if its even necessary haha. But i do want strong midbass, and as for tweets I've always liked them ever so slightly to the aggressive side. I listen to a wide range of metal, from softer stuff to death metal like nile and suffocation. Also I like prog-rock as well as a bit of mainstream stuff too. A bit of rap gets played, but that's mostly when the girl starts playing with the stereo, and she completely unbends my sub and blasts it while shes at it, so something that could take a little bit of abuse would be nice, though obviously nothing is indestructible.... she's …

  16. Running a 10" JL (300 RMS) on an Alpine amp at 150 RMS at 4 ohms and I just fried it. Same happened to my last 10" Punch. I thought i had the sub matched perfectly to my amp but obviously I am doing something wrong. Anyone know of any good instructional material I can read to educate myself before I waste any more money? I wanted to upgrade my sub and amp but not if I am going to just ruin another driver. I do listen with the bass boost up and at high volume, I am definitely hard on my subs, but thats why I was careful not to over power this one. What else could I be doing wrong? HELP!

So woke up this am 4 work to find my back window busted out, tailgate left open... and my subs gone!!!! didn't hear a damn thing... and I'm only 20 feet away or so from my truck. I'm planning on a new sub build anyway.... but damn...WTF? So sick of this crap... So it appears that I have a need for a two way alarm, any suggestions...? local audio place suggested a compustar, and wants 800$ to install it... remote start, glass break, 2nd horn...the works... I don't really care to put it in myself, but I might if it saves me some $, and is not tooo complicated. IDK... really want to catch these little F'rs.....
