Not sure how to explain what Im experiencing...but it seems that when running sine wave freq sweeps my system drops out about the 57-63Hz. Very annoying, and cannot seem to find a way to fix. I have 6.5 coponents in the doors (stock locations) and a 15" Xcon ported (tuned to 32Hz), doors have been sound deadened (dynamat, mlv etc) I have tried using different crossover settings (50,63,80,100HZ etc) to separate the sub and components, I have tried letting the sub only play these freqs, tried the components only, tried to EQ (my HU only allows 40,80...) Im just baffled...could this possibly be a Null from my listening position? Maybe the components being too far off axis? E…

I had a last minute change of heart and decided to scoop a pair of Obsidian 18's. Can anyone give me a general idea of what size to build it? I am still going to get a BC2000 or a SAZ-1500 (The sundown is so much prettier .-. ) and I would like to tune it lowish for chopped and screwed music. Is 26hz too low to be realistic for music? I don't listen to hardly any rock or metal, mostly slowed rap so tightness and accuracy are hardly concerns of mine (my xplodes are going into the fire pit though) What would be an optimal size for a pair of 18's? Once I get a feel for how big it needs to be, i'm going to see what dimensions I can squeeze out to keep the box as low as po…

I am looking to get a 15"or 18" to go into a sealed box for sq. Leaning towards the 15" at the moment. Car: 98 Mustang Location: Trunk Amp: MTX te1501d (birthsheet @ 1 ohm is 1556 rms @ 13.8 volts) Wires: 0 gauge on big 3, main battery to second battery in trunk, & from second battery to sub amp. 4 gauge to highs/mid amp from second battery. Stock 130a alt. but I'm getting a 270 Mechman and xs 3100d( will be under rear seat) when i order the sub or shortly after. If i go with the 15 the box will be 26.5L x 26.5D x 11H about 3.5 cubes before displacement. Sub will be upward firing. I'm tossing up the idea of the 18" but don't have experience with 18's. Any idea's if t…

I might be buying a jeep wrangler in 6 months after this semester of school. Currently I have a ssd15 and I was looking at the jeep and I don't think I can fit an optimal box for the 15 in there. I was brain storming and I came up with an idea. I would take the rear seats out and make a box for two 12's facing forward with a big old port in between them. And build a seat on top of the box. Now should I recone my 15 into a 12 and buy another? Or should I sell it and buy either 2 sa12's or 2 Fi x12's? I am going to run a precision power bk1300.1D. And a set of Polk db 6.5 components off a power bass xax(400.2?) 100rms at 2 channels. All help and advice is much appreciated. …

What I HOPE to attain is a great sounding sub stage (I have two SA-8s) that gets REAL low and is real tight. What makes my goal a bit different than most requests is that I don't care about volume (SPL), I will never put a meter on it to check my SPL... I want low extension, and tight bass with very little hump in the response curve (I realize it is nearly impossible to get a flat sound from a ported box). Vehicle : 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited soft top Location in the vehicle: back cargo area Space available (Length x Width x Height): 37.5 x Any x Any Subwoofer make and model: SA-8 V2 Subwoofer Size: 8 inch Number of Subwoofers: 2 Type of Port (Kerfed, Slot, Aero, etc.…

Hey fellas, After being away for a while from the car audio scene, a friends prototype actually grabbed my attention and I decided to get one. The only downside to this is it is super long (around 17 inches). If any of you guys remember CoDrive, then you know pretty much about this sub. For those of you who do not, it is a double motor, double vc design for one sub. It uses 10" spiders, custom machined sundown motors for 8 layer flat wound 3" voicecoils. This beast will have a good amount of excursion and kill the lows. With that said, it will weigh in at about 100lbs (doh). I was looking at designs, messing around with some myself, playing with bbp (that thing doesn't l…

So I built a 3 cube box (net) tuned to 31 hz for a new, Fi SSD15 with standard options. port area is 34 in^2 sub up, port back. slot port, 11.5h x 3w x 24d box is 13h x 32w x 20d. 11 sq inches of port per cubic foot of the internal enclosure volume. I'm getting great low end, but the output begins to drop sharply at 55hz, being hardly noticeable at 65hz. I did a tone sweep and the output drops off sharply between 55-65hz, picks back up a little bit in the 70's until it begins to roll off around 90hz where i have my crossover set. My old pair of kicker cvr 12's hit this range wonderfully tuned at 40hz in the same car. I think my box and port are the wrong sizes. ive watche…

What's up guys, I hope this is the right section. Having trouble figuring how to do my front stage in a 06 Charger. So I wanna see pics if any of you guys have a serious front stage in your Charger Magnum or 300. Also for this who wanna help, front door has a 6x9 which I have looked at and can make adapters for a 6.5 that's no prob. Now the dash has a 3.5, where I can put a tweeter or supertweeter. But that's not really what I want, I don't think a tweeter facing the windshield will sound any good. I have space on the door for a regular tweeter, but j still would like to see others before I proceed. Further notes, I can't fiberglass (would love a pillar tweets and mult…

I want to use 2 6" or 1 8" for my next box since it will allow me to tune lower and also give me more internal space using the same dimensions. But on the face of the box I can't actually use a flare like the one Adrian has or the ones that partexpress sells, because it won't fit. Now can I use a round over bit on the port opening of the wood to make it a flare? Pic below is how I made a box for 4 15s and I had 4 6" pvc pipes. It's double baffled. The front baffle was used as .75" of the port length since the pvc didn't go all the way out of the box. It only went into the inner baffle. So can I use a round over bit to make the outer baffle a flare by using the bit? I'm no…

hey guys, I have recently purchased a 2006 subaru legacy 2.5i. my previous car i had 2 12 inch gcons on a sundown 1500 amp, a 6 cubic foot box that i sealed into the cabin. was wondering what would be effected if i were to seal the box instead of port it and still reverse the subs facing the cabin. so run a 3 cubic foot box sealed off from the trunk with the subs facing the cabin. i just am wondering if this would work. or if it would sound like shit. haha. i have the box designed to fit into the trunk so i can seal it off. I am trying to save space (i snowboard in the winter) roof racks can only carry boards. id have more than half the trunk left with the box ive designe…

If you have two boxes at the same volume and say one had a 2" slot port width and the other had a 3.5" port width tuned to the same frequency would there be a difference? Would the 3.5" port allow you to feel the lows better than the 2" port but sound the same since they are tuned the same?

After comparing torres to the RE calc, I realized that it was off (re) by a lot more than I had expected. About an entire cubic foot off. So I think now would be a good time to build a new box. The main question I have is in reference to the "Port Top/Bottom" measurement, I'm not sure where the 4.50" comes from? I'm also not quite sure about how a slot port with no bend's would act since I don't think i've seen many people build one without bends. Main goal is to have the Hifonics brz15 laying face up and the port facing either the trunk or in the cabin, and to be removable (the box). Are there any real advantages to an inward facing port? I've heard that you would want y…

Well im swapping out my 2 SA10s each on an audiopipe APSM1300 for 1 SSA 10" XCON and i will be strapping both amps together to get ~2000w @ 2 ohms. It seems like I might get away with being able to use the same box and port length. The current box is 1.39ft^3 before displacement, making it 1.24ft^3 ... using the aero port calculator My exisiting 3" x 15" port will give me a tuning of ~30.8hz. Am i lucky and wont have to build a new box?

okay, well I got some money for my birthday, and was thinking of picking up some mdf to build a ported enclosure for the SUV. Single 15" sub off of 600 watts. mfg reccomended optimal enclosure is 4 cubic ft. tuned to 34 Hz. My max dimensions available are 38.5" W x 24" D x 18" H Here's what I was thinking: 38.5" wide by 18" high by 18" deep (outside measures, using .75" mdf) Sub up, port back. Port 16.5" high by 4" wide by 28" long (acoustical, physical 23.25" since it will have a bend) gives a gross volume of 5.82 cubic ft, net of 4.24 cubic ft after subwoofer and port displacement, tuning of 33.8 Hz will be adding some bracing but not enough to bring tuning …

Basically what im asking is that if I want to add another 15, I will build a new aero-ported box. What is a good way to estimate how much volume i should have? One of my 15's requires 3.5-4 optimal ported volume, i was thinking about increasing to 6.5-7.5 for two? Having a 12 ft^3 trunk really sucks sometimes...

Hey guys, I originally made a topic where I landed on the idea of running an 8" midbass paired along with a 3" fullrange. After giving it a bunch of thought, because of the harsh drop off of the full rangers at higher frequencies (if not directly on axis with the listener.) I don't think that this would be the best option for me. I would prefer if both me and my passenger would be able to have the best listening experience. Would this be best achieved by just a simple 6.5" and tweeter combination, or are there different options that might work best? Just looking for some advice, -Mike

currently running a sundown saz1500 powering a fully loaded 12in fi bl in a 2.5 cu ft box tuned to 34 hz. I was recently at a local audio shop and had the main guy set my gains properly so i did no have any clipping. I was not very impressed with the outcome. As i come to find i had been running with clipping since day one and my system is now quieter. He told me to tune my box to 40-42hz and it would be louder. My question is how much louder? and will i still be able to play most rap music? What would be the lowest tone i could safely play?

Ok I got my new install done which consist of 2 15 xcons facing cabin in a sealed box, ran off a crescendo BC 3500. My question is will it be a significant gain in output if I go with a ported box instead. Only reason we went sealed was shortage in trunk space given space we had enough for opt sealed enclosure. Any info?
