I just purchased a used 2007 Lexus ES350 which has a factory 10" subwoofer on the rear deck. It accomplishes some midbass, but just doesn't fill the cabin like I'd hoped. I want to install a Sundown SA-12 along with my existing Rockford 1000bd (I won't have it turned all the way up most likely). While I realize the RF Amp probably isn't best at a SQ install, I'm hoping the Sundown can fit the bill. My question is: Is it possible to make a box that can fire through the fold down armrest in the rear seat or up through the deck? How complex would something like this be in order to eliminate the loss or sludgy sound of bass firing into the trunk? My main reason is to try and…

My substage is complete and now I am looking for some midbass/mid/tweeters. I have never used active crossovers but would like to for this build. Any suggestions for something that could keep up with (4) 18"s and 8kwrms. It is going in a suburban so I have all four doors available, plus the possibility of a custom center console. I was thinking about making center console enclosure for the midbass, but found out most mid bass speakers are designed for IB. Are there any that would work well in that style of enclosure? Would PA speakers(seen a lot of people using electro-voice) be a bad idea? Any suggestions or links to similar builds would be appreciated.

Hey everyone, So I finally started building my first box that will hold two 2 10" DCONs Everything looked good as I thought I could achieve 2.5 cuft with some 44in of port at 11"x4"...... Well now that I have all the walls in, I have begun to realize just how new at this woodworking stuff I am. I can't post any pictures now so I'll try to explain this as best I can. Mistake 1: I have the port coming in on the left side, going in some 22 inches, then turning and following the back wall the last 22 inches. I planned on having 4 inches of width throughout the port but thanks to my amazing tablesaw abilities, I have 4 inches on that initial run, and only 3.75inches for the…

Does port/woofer aiming really matter that much in an SUV? I'm looking at placing the box in the passenger rear corner with the woofer firing cross cabin and port forward.

I managed a 148.2 at 25Hz a year ago in a vehicle that was NOT designed for competition, let alone SPL. I simply wanted a vehicle that could get pretty loud, pretty low, and yet still sound very clear. Out of curiosity I went and got metered to see how loud it was below 30Hz. When I did so I got bombarded with "well this guy with 24 15's in 4th order got a 161 @ 25Hz" and "well this guy got a 154 with just 2 10's at 25Hz". Later some guy, who despite being from this forum was very polite and nice, comented on some of my posts. He was installing 2 18's and tuning around 30Hz IIRC. So I joked and said I'd give him my other alternator if he could beat my 148 @ 25Hz. He tol…

((2 * 250.3125 * 10) - (0.159230769 * 2 * (12^3)) - (30.830229 * 2)) / (12^3) = 2.54299074 cu ft. That’s with port, sub, 45s and skeletal displacement taken into consideration. That makes the box tuned to around 34.02Hz if the math is correct..... let me know guys, what you think it is for 2 dc audio xl 10"s powered by an aq3500d1 in a 1ohm load, think my tunining is to high? still able to hit the lows you think? i wanted to be able to play normal music as well since its my daily driver 1st real build so im just taking everything into condsideration since this box is built already just waitin on my other d3100 to come monday

Well I went to my teams shop last weekend and decided I would do a little testing with my new setup. The equipment used is a 21in warden and SAZ 3500. The vehicle is a 97 blazer. Electrical is one yellow top under the hood one extra battery in the back and 2/0 welding cable. Box is a little over 9 cubes and tuned at 40 htz. If any one would like to give feedback on how to get it louder or just comments in general everything helps. Resized to 61% (was 1024 x 768) - Click image to enlarge Also that score is at the headrest because I am in Meca and the day after that score was done i hit a 149.6 I just didn't get a picture of that one but it can be proven if need be. Like I …

I cannot decide on what to do. 4 SA-15"s in a standard ported wall, or 4 SA-15"s in a 4th order bandpass. What are the positives and negatives of both? I've helped build a 4 15"s wall in the 60's and an 8 12"s 4th in 60's. I like them both, both sound good, both played well. I just cannot decide on what type of enclosure to build.

Stupidly I bought an 18 Fi BL and didn't realize I couldn't fit the recommended box inside my trunk...its anywhere between 4-4.5 cubic ft..Is there anyway I can build a new box similar in size that will increase the current SPL levels and help not suffocate the sub-woofer so much?

Aight guys, I have 10" american xfl sub a ported box tuned to 30hz in my sedan and I was thinking about switching it up and doing a 4th order bandpass box with a flared port tube shooting thru the rear deck. Also the rear deck will custom fiberglassed and molded to securely mount the port and speakers. Or should I just leave the ported box and fiberglass the rear deck with a vent for the bass to come thru. I'm just trying to eliminate having to keep the armrest down or having the seats folded down so that the bass isn't trapped in the trunk. Here's a video of a lexus with a 4th order bandpass box ported thru the rear deck thru the factory sub location http://www.caraudio.…

Pic 1 this is the front of the box that will be facing the front seats Pic 2 this is a view of the back/underside of the box. Pic 3 This is a back/side view of where the 4" diameter aeroports will go Pic 4 this is the other side The sub will be downfiring towards the back of the cab at an angle and im curious of how this will sound. im thinking that since the ports will be loading off of the door as well as the sub it should be a pretty loud design but i would like some opinions since im new to box building. i wasnt able to insert the actual image

So I come today bearing questions... I have two ideas for a system and really am at a standstill and could use some advice. Both ideas will be forward firing with the truck sealed off from the front. My first idea is two 12's in a sealed box. Due to the fact that the max height in the trunk is 12.5in, I would have to tilt the sub back to make it fit, and for the sake of visuals, tilting them inward at the same time. I would prefer this setup, but due to limited resources, I'm not sure if I could cut any mdf with the angled edges required to achieve this. So this leads to my second idea... If I ran two 10in subs, I could run them straight up and down, and I could port them…

Wassup fellas I am wondering if I tune my port to 33 hz could I change the tuning of it without switching out the port? Like adding something? I would like to keep it at 33 hz when doing rap demos and daily bumping but then when I use it for work I listen to rock cause of my boss cause he hates rap so tune around 38 hz or maybe a tad higher. I have an hdc3 18 and 8 cubes or so to build.

Just starting to get really into car audio...Bought the Fi BL 18 last year and put it in a 4.0 cubic ft box running around 1100 RMS (i know its a small box, but its in a trunk).. haven't driven in over year, but about to start back up. My question is what makes the bass sound so different.. I mean my friend had 2 12's in a smaller box and his just sounds so clean and clear, while it sounds crisp inside, on the outside the car it really isn't banging like it is in the inside. My set up however just sounded mean and powerful inside the car and fairly loud on the outside..I've heard the terms (clean bass) and (dirty bass) before, but I'm not exactly sure what is meant by t…

I am the fortunate owner of a 4th generation camaro :-p Anyways I have a dcon 10 on the way with plans to add a second. Ive seen the box plans for optimal ported and they look fine but because my box is going to be 3 sections with a wedge on top I dont even want to try to do a slot port. If anyone could just give me the size of the box and port ( to achieve the same result as the optimal ported enclosure ) with the port volume already included I would be very thankful
