so ive never really found a concrete answer to this, but for sq is a smaller or larger box better? my 15 fi q is in a 4^3 box it is very peaky down low, with kind of weak higher bass(by higher i mean 40-55 not like midbass), and fi says 2.8-4.0 is good. my brothers 12 fi q is in a 1.8/1.9 ^3 box and it says from 1.8-2.5 and it sounds amazing and even from LOWWWW to pretty high. im assuming the smallest recommended box is good for sq/evenness, and the largest is good for spl/peakiness? (I think i just made up words!) oh btw we are both tuned about the same(31 for me 32 for him)

  2. Hey guys I have a couple questions. I did a build on 2- SA-12" V.2 Nightshade and I had a custom box built that is 3.0 cf box w/ a port face that is 40x1.2" and is 23" long (specs I got from SA). The subs are firing up and the port is firing back at the bottom of the box. This roughly give me 48 inches of port tuned at 36 hrz, I heard from SA tech that I needed 15 inches of port for each SQ FT. It sounds great, the only problem is it doesn't sound as loud as my ProBox super bass box did. Any suggestions? I talked with SA tech again and they said raise the tuning frequency by cutting off a little off of the port. I checked with ProBox and the Super Bass Boxes are tuned at …

I am noticing some mixed thoughts on enclosure bracing. My opinion on bracing is to brace areas larger than two square feet. Again that is my humble opinion, no scientific study. I have done a little bit of research and I have not been able to come up with an definitive answer. I had a Team SSA member tell me today that a mounting baffle for 8 12" subwoofers does not need bracing. That seems like a far stretch for me to believe. But then again, I am basing my enclosure bracing off a hunch. Can anybody name a scientific evaluation that has been performed on enclosure bracing and it's proper application? Or even a good article written by a reputable source on enclosure brac…

I am running rookie sq in iasca. I was wondering if they have any rules in the sq division regarding vehicle builds. Specifically on caps, # of amps, wiring. I know they do for idbl, but I cant find anything on their website about sq builds. Thanks for any help.

So my build calls for my 4" aeros to be about 38" long so I have to do some piping in my box with 90 and 45 degree turns. When measuring I'm assuming I stay in the middle the whole time and measure flare tip to tip? The turns are what throw me off when measuring. Thanks guys

Well a few questions here. Would you guys mount your amps to the back of your seats if you could? Why or why not? Second -- I tried mounting my small amp to the back of my seat but its at least 3/4 inch metal. We tried using a metal bit but it ended up wrecking it. Both my friend and I tried for a few minutes trying to trill one hole but couldn't get it to drill through.

i just traded my one 12" MTX 8000 series for 2 10" MTX 6000 series (4 ohm). sounds like i got screwed but the 10 sounds so much better. now i want to get an enclosure for both because the guy i traded with only had an enclosure for one. the enclosure it is in now is about 1.1 cu. ft. it sounds pretty good, gets decently low and decently loud, but doesnt really exceed in either category. i listen to all kinds of rock and some rap occasionally. so i want an LSQ setup. i cant decide whether i want to go ported yet or not. i'd love to but not sure i have the money because i dont have the knowledge to build my own. i am just wondering what the perfect size sealed and port…

Aight, so I'm looking to buy a box for my 15" fi bl, since I cant find anyone to build it for me locally, cant get the dimensions, and cant figure it out myself lmao. Was wondering if any of you guys have heard of Shipsound.com? Their boxes are the size im looking for (the 4.3cf in particular), but their prices seem to good to be true, most of them are under $100. Just dont know what they are tuned to either. Heres the link, - ShipSound.com If they are indeed legit, I'm definitely buying through here.

I'm going to build a box for a buddy of mine that has a 1988 Camaro Iroc-Z. It's not going to be in the wheel weld as of other boxes. But right behind the rear seats. In this picture where the amp is located, there will be an enclosure for them, and it won't cover up the whole trunk area. I am going to use dual 4" Areo ports, and I was wondering how long will they have to be to have a tuning of 32-32hz. I'm thinking 1.6-8 cubes in total for both subs, and the amp I am using is a Polk Audio 4channel 800 watt amp that will be bridged to run at 4 ohms. The aim is mostly for SPL since there is no true SQ. But he would like to be able to listen to a variety of music, such as:…

I have a soundstream tarantula tr880/2 amp(880rms) and now a soundstream splx 12" 750rms. I have 4 ga amp wires and 10 ga speaker wire, all on a alpine headunit. trunk is dynamated. I just got this sub off ebay after selling my jbl 15wgti. I didnt have much space and I figured I could get a 12" to pound as hard as a 15" I've saw guys at comps do it. But with this soundstream sub I'm not impressed. It came with a cheap particle board 2.3 ft. air space ported box, I plan on getting a nice box. the 15" hit a lot harder then the 12 in just as crappy a box. If anyone out there can give me some pointers on how to get this 12 to sound like a 15 please let me know. let me know if…

I have 2 sa15s and i'm designing a new box. It's a daily driver but i want it to be a very loud daily driver. i currently have a hifonics hfi1500 (pending upgrade) big 3 done, XS Power D925 on the way along with second skin coming. I'm probably going to go around 7.5-8 cubes after displacement and wondering which one will get louder to. If i go aeroport how big and long should i go. Any input is appreciated! Thanks

i finished putting this togethre right now... LMK what you think. I'm uneasy about the tuning freq because i was unfamiliar with the calc. i used. since the box is wider, i can now have a good 26" of port area. anything wrong with what you see? the sub itself is .3 cubic ft but i will add more baffle to compensate

would a port facing the side work in a 2001 eclipse hatchback.......its about a foot away from the panel if I were to face the port to the back ....the port will only be about an inch away from the back panel.... and I don't think it will have any air flow. if I face the port to the side .....will it practically be the same as facing it to the back?

Ok, well My trunk openings are garbage, my trunk is HUGE but, I can't get a box inside the trunk from the rear or from the back seats. So, my only 2 solutions are this. 1.) I lay down plastic so I don't get anything in the back of my car, And I pre-drill the screw holes and put the box together while it is in the trunk. Only problem i see with this really, is the internal piece for the slotted port. 2.) I build the box split down the center, having a top half and a bottom half, which would be Biscuit jointed or using dowels and thenglued together in the trunk, and then over the joint external strips would be screwed into place to hold the joint together. Both of these are…

  23. Has anyone tried this when they were bored or may just know what happens if you take a ported box and install 2 ports in the box, one tuned to let's say 30 hz and the other at 45 hz. I'm just curious as to what happens. Does the box react as if there is a major air leak? Do the port's tuning medium come into play and output a tuned frequency of 38hz for this example?

whats a good tuning for a subwoofer box using 8" for sq purpose and would bring out the best musicality beats for new wave songs? swing out sisters, bizzare love triangle original track, gona get your love, godfinger, reasons, etc etc i was thinking of using a sealed box, but the 8" on a sealed box would just produce hard beats.. i was thinking of 38hz on a 1.0 cubic feet? any suggestion? im kind new to SQ system, and im having a hard time deciding on how should i tune the box or go with a sealed.. i would want the output to produce hard beats when needed at the same time could produce long bass when needed.. :puzzled:
