Hey everyone, So I finally started building my first box that will hold two 2 10" DCONs Everything looked good as I thought I could achieve 2.5 cuft with some 44in of port at 11"x4"...... Well now that I have all the walls in, I have begun to realize just how new at this woodworking stuff I am. I can't post any pictures now so I'll try to explain this as best I can. Mistake 1: I have the port coming in on the left side, going in some 22 inches, then turning and following the back wall the last 22 inches. I planned on having 4 inches of width throughout the port but thanks to my amazing tablesaw abilities, I have 4 inches on that initial run, and only 3.75inches for the…

  3. I wasn't sure where to post this so it will probably be moved.. But im planning a new box and im debating what frequency to tune to.. The thing is that i have a box in my truck now that is tuned to 40Hz and I want to play sine wave tracks (30hz, 31hz, 32hz.. and so on) to determine where my box peaks at with cabin gain. I believe this will help me make my decision because I don't really know what hz is playing in a song and say my setup starts dropping of around 45hz now.. I may want it to drop off around 35hz.. Also i will use the tracks to compete if i ever build a loud setup. I buddy of mine used to have a cd with tracks like this so I know they're out there.. Could…

Hey guys, my friend has a Ford Ranger and he asked me if having the port facing the door or roof would be louder. And I decided to ask on here for him. Reason because he is getting a box designed, what would the pros/cons of having it facing either way be? Thanks in advance.

  8. I am looking for a box builder in the Louisville Ky area. I live in the Jefferson-town (J-Town) area (40299-3520) of Louisville Kentucky & I was wondering if any of you guys would know or recommend any box builders in the Louisville Kentucky or Southern Indiana Area. I just want someone who is good at what they do & will give me a fair price. I figure that cutting out shipping costs will save me at least $100.00 & with someone local they can actually see my car & build what I am actually looking for. Thanks Mike

Hey guys im switching from CVXs to BLs im wondering if my old box would be ok with the new subs till I get a new one built. Car Tunes built the box and its suppose to be "spec" for the size of my truck and the space im utilizing. They said its a 1 chamber for 2 subs. I went outside and measured it...dual 15s btw 20.5in long 42in wide 18.5in high The port measured 2.5 in wide 16.5 long I just wanna know if this box is close to whats recommended. Im sure they need more port volume but I don't build boxes so someone enlighten me please lol. Any input is greatly appreciated guys! Thanks

I did search 'box carpet',and you'd be amazed (sarcasm) how much those two words are used on this forum. lol, i went through about 15 pages and found some good info on where to get it,but i still have one question. A lot of people said they got their carpet from a hobby store, and i'm just curious what kind of carpet to look for when i get there. I could be wrong, but i don't see them having "sub enclosure carpet", so i really just need a name to call it... If i can't find it at a hobby store, i guess partsexpress.com is the next choice ($5.85/yd... much better than crutchfield's $30 for 3yds.)

Hey guys, I was messing around with some box plans, and for the recommended box for two rl-i 8's (.6 CF @35 hz) the port has to be over 106 inches long. That is almost a 3 CF port! Anyone know how I can get the length down some? Check my math, but I'm pretty sure this is right.

  13. I own the following items: http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/SPLManual.pdf ( I have the 15 inch) http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/KaptionD-Class.pdf (biggest amp they make) I am trying to build a loud, clean system. The dimensions and information are in the pdf for the sub. Now, I listen mostly to rap, some rock but mostly rap and otherwise a mixed back. I believe sealed is the way to go because I like the clean, clear bass... I will be leaving in the third row of seating in, but have it flipped up (or maybe I should take it out). I need to use the space above the sub for the transfer of some goods etc... Should I center the sub, put it towards the rear seats or t…

Im using 4 4" aero ports. The box I will be mounting them to is 38"x20"x20" with an 18" sub on one side facing up. The 4 wont fit in a line since their flare is 7"+, so my question is, should I do sub in the middle with the ports on the side of the box facing back 4 in a row, or can I make a square with sub up port up, Will having 2 ports closer to the sub than the other affect anything? or will air movement be equal between the 4?

Well i installed it mid june(?), everything has worked great. Whenever i took people, they said my truck smells weird. I never really thought about it, but last weekend i drove a group to the football game (they chose the guy with an 11 mpg truck to drive 1.5 hours there, wtf lol) and took the box out for the ride up. When i put it back in a couple days later, i noticed the smell. I guess i just got used to it, and never noticed. I know it's not my sub, because it can smell funny when i get in it for the first time in a couple days, when nothing has been playing. I really can't describe it, it's a mixture of things. Wood would definitly be one smell, but could it be sili…
