The dimensions are" 20" Wide x 18" Tall x 15" Deep = 3.125 ft^3 external Internal = 2.385 ft^3 - .15 (speaker) = 2.235 ft ^3 to work with minus whatever port area??? a little area in the back lost to the plexi window that will be put in, but negligible The speaker is a Fi BL 12, with flatwind and pchamfer options. Tuning is suggested to be 32 hz and box size between 1.8-2.5 ft^3 I can't go much bigger due to trunk opening, and for that reason I am building to boxes of the same size and putting them in the trunk that way. I mainly listen to Rap/ Hip Hop and Hanna Montana ( ) These will be facing towards the seat so that the plexi rear is visible when opening the trunk. I …

Hi everyone, My name is Paul Mocan, and i am from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Adrian_D is a good friend of mine, and one day we decided to transform my 20 year old Volvo 340, in a SPL car... here is what happend. We started with adding a second battery behind the passanger seet, and complettly removed the rear seats. We made a box design with 2 ports, one for SPL and one for music. My car was a wreck. I had oil and watter dripping out of it, but it was a crowd gatherer. I'll come back with some pictures...

i am trying to build a box for 4 of my kicker cvx 15's. i called kicker and they recommending using separate 3.5 cub. ft chambers tuned to 38 hz. since this is gonna be my first box build is there an easier less way to build the box without having 4 separate chambers? maybe 2 subs per port or all 4 with one port. it is going inside the car. maybe even a wall design. my available space is 32x56x36.

I have modeled up a box for a 12" Fi.SSD Now I'd just some of you box builders to just verify what I've done. And let me know if its good or not Here is a pic since they're worth 1000 words: Port and Sub displacement has been accounted for. Where would be the best location on the port side to place the sub? I dont quite understand port loading and such. Thanks in advance

I am trying to come up with a good design for a ported box for a 18" BTL. Now it is going to be in my trunk but I am going to try to get a full 8 cubic feet. It can be 41" wide, 29 inches deep, and the tallest it can be is 18.5" and that is exactly right size for a 18" BTL. The only problem I have had is that I know it is going to need some kind of bracing and since I have no idea how to go about that I don't know how to calculate in the displacement of the extra bracing, and I don't know how to figuire out how big I will have to make my port to be at about 30hz. If it is under 8 which I'm sure it probably will be I'm fine with that I guess, but I need some help on how to…

  10. I recently brought a pair of LvL 4 with LvL 5 coils to go with my single Autotek MM4000.1D amp. I want to put these subs in an 07 Chevy Suburban LT.The idea is to keep my third row seats. That was the main reason why I brought a suburban instead of a tahoe. So far this is what I've came up with. *Note all measurements are external* Height: 23 3/8 inches or 28 1/2 inches if I go up to top of headrest Width: 49 inches Depth: 28 3/4 inches I went to 12volt.com to use their volume calculator and it came out to roughly 15 cft of internal volume space. I want to go ported with the 18's and I want to go both subs and ports facing up as apposed to subs up and ports to the rear. …

As far as sealed enclosures are concerned, I find myself to be pretty knowledgeable. When it comes to ported enclosures, thats a different story. Ive been reading quite a bit and tryin to find out how the fudge to make one - mainly the port itself and how you incorporate this with the rest of the box. When i look at ported boxes it looks likes a pucking maze and i havent the slightest clue how long to cut each piece of wood <-----thats just one of the many things im not educated on....I know about displacement and all that good stuff but still find myself extremely confused when it comes to ports....if anyone has a site i can go to and read up that would be appreciated…

  14. I own the following items: http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/SPLManual.pdf ( I have the 15 inch) http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/KaptionD-Class.pdf (biggest amp they make) I am trying to build a loud, clean system. The dimensions and information are in the pdf for the sub. Now, I listen mostly to rap, some rock but mostly rap and otherwise a mixed back. I believe sealed is the way to go because I like the clean, clear bass... I will be leaving in the third row of seating in, but have it flipped up (or maybe I should take it out). I need to use the space above the sub for the transfer of some goods etc... Should I center the sub, put it towards the rear seats or t…

I am getting ready to do a blowthrough in my truck. The subs I am planning on using are 4 Audioque hdc3 18's. The dimensions are 50x17.5x77 inches. I will be running them off of two IA 40.1's strapped. I have built several boxes but never a blowthrough. I have heard that bandpass is the best way to go when doing a blowthrough...is this true? Anyway is there anyone who can design me an enclosure for this setup? I will pay of course just let me know.

What material do you think is better to build with MDF or birch. I seen alot of builds using birch, but I have never used it. Does it hold up as well as mdf or better? What are the advantages of useing birch over MDF? Just want some input before I start building, thanks.

  17. Well I'm trying to plan a fiberglass build for my twin 12" jl w6v2's that will be going in my WRX (sedan). I've asked around to get suggestions on how to go about the design, but noone seems to be able to help me with my question?? I know with a regular box your kind of limited to either just facing your subs straight back or straight foward... straight back, pushed up against the backseat usualy being "as good as your going to get" as far as cabain gain goes. What I've been trying to find out is, since sub orientation is just about limitless with fiberglass, what orientation will yield me the best possible cabin gain and sound in my trunk? Like facing the subs towar…

Hey everyone, i have 2 T10001's powering 4 15" cvr's and im looking into a more reliable subwoofer that will belt out the lows a little bit better. I have narrowed it down to 2 18" Bl's with the cooling option(as i heard its neccesary) Question... i have 46L 27T and 19D to work with, however i must put a divider in because i will be running 2 amps, 1 per woofer(i dont want to blow one due to mechanical errors) So if i cut that in half i get 4.679 cubes with the port 22.25x2.75 per chamber. 35hz 4.679 without woofer displacement. Is this giong to be sufficient enough because i know it says 5-10 cubes for this woofer. Im really looking to keep the same output as my cvrs bu…

  19. I am tryin to work out a box plan for 2 18" Fi Q's, the box i am plannin will really be 2 seperate boxes. 1 for each 18 then bolted togather, then trim paneled in to look like 1 box. Doing 2 boxes to make it easier to pull the boxes in and out(I am a 1 man build crew) of the van(2000 Gmc safari). Here is what i came up with from RE's web site. Each box will be 25" wide by 34" inches deep by 21" tall wood thickness will be 3/4 inch mdf, port width will be 4.5 port height will be 19.5 and the lenght will be 28.75 to give me a box that is tuned at 28.18Hrz and gives me 6.766 ft of airpace. Do you guy think this box will be ok for everyday driving, I am looking for good …

Well, here's the deal. I'm going to be building a box for 2 Fi Bl 18's. I figured up the box will be 11.27 cubes before displacement, which is about 10.81 cubes after sub displacement. I figured that I will have 158 sq. inches of port area total. The question I have is, since I want to tune the box to 34hz, how long do I make the port? The port will be 44.5" wide, and 3.55" tall (inside measurements).

  24. hey guys one of my buddies says a nice cheap effective meathod for sound deadening is resisto found in roofing sections in homehardware stores... apparently its not as good as the top dynamat or raammat but he says its pretty much the same stuff as fatmat which is cement based (not Butyl). can anyone confirm? i would be real interested to use this stuff (if it works) on my trunk lid and a bit of the back of my trunk to stop trunk raddling. thx -phil

Looking for some tips on the trunk set-up. I have an 18" BL in there currently that is upfiring as it is the only arrangement I could use and still get it in the trunk. I'm looking at switching to a 15" though and can change it around if you guys have tried anything that works well. Firing into seats, firing back, port arrangement. stuff like that that I was unable to with the 18". Looking to save some time before I start tuning!! maybe you guys have had some good tips for me to start with. Any other good trunk tips would be appreciated to. If I compete with this in my car, it'll be a first. I've typically only competed with hatchbacks
