I was thinking about to the standard square ports, but last night I thought about doing one, maybe two, larger round ports using PVC. Has anyone tried this. I was thinking something like 8" diameter ports, maybe two of them. Since it is going in a blowthrough, is it also okay to extend the ports out a little, maybe almost into the blowthrough to ensure more pressure from the port goes directly into the cabin of the truck.

due to the complexity of the sides of my box, its going to be kind of hard to build a slot port on the top of the box. i was thinking, instead of a slot port, should i do like 4 6" aero's? (or whatever i need to get the right amount of port area) which leads me to my questions. -if you have 200 (example) sq in of port area, with a slot port, if you switch to aeros, do you still need a ton of aero's to get 200 sq in? or does less aeros equal out to the larger port area of a slot port? -aero ports in a wall. how will this work? i know one con is i dont get the natural bracing a slot port would provide, but ill deal with that, and add some extra bracing. -difference in sound…

Looking at sub manufacturer recommendations, box sizes for each sub can vary by quite a bit. I'm just curious what the difference is. I know that a larger box decreases power handling of the woofer, but is there any difference in sound? Is a smaller box more susceptible to peaking? Sorry for the newb question - I'm trying to decide what will fit in the trunk. Thanks guys.

I've built quite a few boxes over the last few years, and they've all been with screws. However, I have the opportunity of getting a brad nailer (either a Hitachi or Porter and Cable) for free. It seems like brad nailing would make things go a lot faster, but I have no experience with them. I was wondering which you guys prefer, and why?

I am planning a box design in which I am using two 3" aero ports. The ports are supposed to be 7 inches long. My question is when using aero ports does the actual tube have to be seven inches or does the entire port assembly (flares included) need to be 7 inches?

Knuconceptz 'Knucar' This guy might have an ssa membership, idk, but has anyone seen this? Everyone says 45 degree angles help airflow, so what would a perfectly round one do? It'd be near impossible to tune if you wanted to port, but if you could, would it actually work? Trust me, i'm not thinking of doing this because i can't make a sphere out of play-dough, just curiousity here.

  15. Started by Freebird,

This is going to sound awfully newbish, because...well it is. I see all over this forum and various others about what to tune a ported box to. Well it dawned on me a while back, what does it mean if you tune a box to, ah lets say 32 hz? Does that mean that the subwoofer can only play notes above this frequency, or what? Also what particular specification(s) point you in the right direction on what to tune the enclosure to (besides the obvious manufacturer's recommended boxes, as I see a lot of people that don't necessarily stick to what the company provides.) Please go easy on me, as I am really clueless when it comes to ported enclosures (as I personally like sealed …

  16. well I really miss my back seat. Right now I have a false floor and a box back there. I want to do a blow through really bad. I dont know how to make the box though. The sub is an 18" Fi Audio BTL. I cant mount it vertically because the sub is taller then the bed. It will have to be at some type of an angle. Then I run into the problem of how to make the actual box and how it comes into the cab.Any help would be awesome and if someone could draw up something really nice there could be some cash involved. Right now im running around 7 cubes and ported to 31 hz..I want it to be tuned low cuz it kills the lows with the 18"..Thanks for the help. Here is what it looks like rig…

  17. Started by QuestionMan,

I was messin around and just seein where the power wire would go through, and i realized that the firewall already in use for the factory wires was pretty much full, and i don't see how 1/0 is going to squeeze in there. But a couple inches to the right and one or two inches above it, theres what i'm guessing is an unused firewall hole. Its a rubber surround with a rubber filling. I tried to see where it came out on the engine side, and i couldn't find it. Does anyone know if i could (once i find the hole, as it was a little dark when i did this) puncture the rubber filling and take it through there? If not, what should i do?

I have a 97' Thunderbird that Im doing now. I wanted either a pair of Fi BTL12s or Fi BL15s. I want the BL15s because I would save a lil money on power and can be used in other areas such as the build, elec system, etc..... But the enclosure size needed is kinda on the large size for my trunk. But I can fit them in there if I angle the baffle and use 2-6" aero ports. My real question is I was reading on another forum that a guy with a mustang (which is basically the same trunk as mine) had success with his subs facing forward and his aeros on the side. He said that subs back/port side was the loudest on the meter but subs forward/port side was the loudest to ear. Has anyb…

Sub: Fi BL 18 with flatwind and p chamfer Amp: Hifonics bxi2006d (again, its not sundown or anything, but it should get the job done for now and even if it is overrated, i think 1800 should push a bl just fine. Enclosure: 6^3ft after all displacement and port, and tuned to 34.4xxx hz. I guess what i'm looking for is the O…

  24. Started by chrismcdonald12,

Finally picked up a few sheets of MDF to play with to make my explorer box, what should the minimum port area be for 2 15inch RE SX's? So far i have messed around with the RE box tool and came up with a 6.1 Cube box tuned to 34.7hz with a port area of 74square inches. My available measurements seem to be 41 inches wide(before wheel well bumps), 18 inches deep, and i don't want to reach over 20 inches high on the height. If anyone can throw some suggestions at me for the area of port needed or maybe a box design they have used in their explorer it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry for all the questions lately, but i'm getting very close to having my box complete, and want everything to be right. So, has anyone used bed liner for their boxes? I really like the look of it, and i really dont like the look of carpet (it's allright i guess, it just seems like everyone has it). Does anyone have suggestions on what kind i should buy and maybe a lil info on how to apply it and make it look good? Thanks to everyone thats replied to my questions.
