First off, hi...i just joined... I'm a complete audio noob... I'm looking to build a console/sub box for my 2007 Silverado... Its a reg cab with hardly any space behind the seats...so i want to take out my jump seat and build something... Here are the plans i sketched up... I basically want it to extend all the way to the dash... have a cup holder... and have the sub in the back, out of sight.... I will put a arm pad on top to rest my elbow... I'm not trying to beat this box out the frame or have a super loud setup.... I'm looking for looks/functionality/and bass to complete my setup...... Any criticism is appreciated....any thoughts or ideas let me know..... I don't k…

so within this next week i plan on getting an Fi Q 18 with the BP. Itll be powered by my elemental design nine.1 (and from reading through these forums, noone seems to like ED, but this is the amp im sticking to) and im guna be wiring the sub down to 1ohm. my enclosure is going to be in the ballpark of 4.5 cubes in my '01 extended cab ranger...but this time i want to go ported, and this WILL be my first ported box (and my 4th setup period) i want to do aero ports, but im still having a hard time trying to figure out how to get port dimensions and etc. and idk what to really tune it to either....i guess around 30hz or so and if it helps, i listen to rap (and country, but t…

  5. Alrighty, I think I have the new design down. Going to be 4 Se 12' in 8cu.'s after displacements. Powered by 2 SAZ-1500's strapped tuned to 35hz. After doing alot of reading, searching, and math I have come to this: 3 6" aero's ( around 92 sq.in. of port total) for a length of each port to be 18.94"(19.94 overall). Should I have more or less port? I have read and searched through quite a bit of the posts. Some of the math and that calculators I have used said I need around 138sq. in. of port. But I have read that when using aero's you may only approx. need 2/3's of that. So with that in mind what's your opinions. If this is wrong can you point out some more pla…

How much will having a bend in a round port affect tuning & sound? Not talkin like 90's, maybe a 30-45 at most. Is there a way to compensate for it w/ length or something or just trial & error? Bigger port maybe? ie 5" port 30 deg bend compared to 3" port with same bend?

  7. Big dilemma, trunk car im working with. I have 7.445 Cu Ft internal area for use if i fire up but the box will be removabable so i can grab my spare tire if i need to. Will up firing in a trunk lose me alot of spl or clarity? Which direction should i fire the port if im making this setup. Also for two RE SX 15's how much port area should be used? The port area is a very limiting factor as its robbing the little amount of area i have. The other way i can do is rear firing but i must make a two piece box to fit it in the trunk. The subs would only be 2 inches from the rear lid of the trunk. I gain .2 cu ft from switching but the amount of work would be substantial and i wou…

Ive been told the lows suck for the R so what kind of box could help put for that? 7cuft box tuned to 34 or 35hz? P.S. NOT my daily subs...

Looking at sub manufacturer recommendations, box sizes for each sub can vary by quite a bit. I'm just curious what the difference is. I know that a larger box decreases power handling of the woofer, but is there any difference in sound? Is a smaller box more susceptible to peaking? Sorry for the newb question - I'm trying to decide what will fit in the trunk. Thanks guys.

Okay so i'm planning on having a box built for 2 12"s and having the subs face the roof (see pic) I'm wondering if I have a top piece of wood above the subs, how that would affect the sound? The top piece of wood would be above the subs by a couple inches. This would allow me to put stuff on my box for storage (ex: my backpack...) Does this make sense?

I know port tuning makes a difference. And I know what the differences are, but would there be an audible/easily noticeble difference between 30hz and 34hz tuning? For the larger amount of port area I want for my smaller box, I would have to tune around 34hz, instead of the 30hz I wanted to tune at.

My frnd recently accuired two RFP3SD subs but my knowledge on box design for these shallow subs are limited. Please help me with box capacity and tuning(ported). I know normal RF subs like a bitt of high tuning but for these ...i have no clue if they will like it to be different. His goal is to squeeze it in a GETZ so space is a problem, if one will fit better, we might just go that way but he refuses to change subs so ill try and get this working for him. He want it loud with a bit of oomf but IDK so would appreciate your imput. Thanks guys.

I have a 98 S10 single cab truck. just bought 2 10" sony xplods. model xs-gtx100lw. along with a sony xplod 800w amp to push them. I, however, can not find how much cubic feet the speakers need. and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out with getting the best and most sound possible out of these speakers. I am going tomorrow to get the wood to start building a box. I am 6 ft tall so room is kind of an issue with scooting the seat up.

  21. So i'm trying to "model", if that's the correct term, a subwoofer in WinISD and BBP6 as a comparsion between the programs.. They both tune the enclosure super low. WinISD picks a net volume; BBP6 didn't have a specified net volume. Neither suggest port area.. Whats going on? EDIT: BBP6 tuned to 23 Hz (super low), WinISD tuned to a reasonable 34 Hz (but net volume was like .5 cuft)

  22. alrite i started a thread on here not to long ago abou tthe elastomeric coating that steve meade used on the inside of the his box and didntt get many replys. i am pretty much done with glassin the inside of my box but i havent started sanding yet. i read about painting the inside with 2 stage paint making it alot louder becasue the waves travel better across a smooth hard surface. but the only problem is i would have to sand the inside to no end. i was plannin on sanding it to an extent and then sprayin it with spray filler primer and going from there. but i have a deadline in a few months and i dont know if this is going to be possible. another factor is that i will bea…

I'm considering building a down fire for 2 D-CON 10's. Will be subs down, port back, box against back seat. Going in a Land Rover. I only cosider this because I do use the cargo area often and want keep the subs out of harms way. My question is how much room do I need between the floor and the woofers???? And should I just elevate the box by the end plates or do a 3sided lift leaving only the rear open???? Or is it a bad idea all together???? Is a daily thumper setup.......just want to keep my investment safe.
