I have a Dodge Journey that I want to put 2 SX 12s in. (By the way, only have one right now, need another. Put the word out, D2) I want to have the 'right' box for it. Not one that a experienced builder can demo and know quickly that it's a crap build. I have been reading the available threads on what makes a vented box a 'good' vented box. But to honest, it seems pretty complicated. I am not a fluid dynamics student. But I am trying to learn. It is hard to narrow down my music style. It's 50/50 between hard rock like Metallica and such, and also rap/hip-hop. I know that doesn't make it easy. It will be running on a solid 2300wrms. I have the whole back available for the …

In process of getting my 15" zcon reconed to a 12" but I need to build the enclosure. Car is an "04 Grand prix trunk is painted with GT MAT which I've come to realize works real well. Sub back port back is what I'm trying to accomplish for now. I'll experiment later, but have come to realize that sub back port back sounds really well wamming off the trunk in the American cars I've owned. Running a group 34 up front with 2 XS power 975s in the rear. Stock alt will be replaced with a mech 270 in the near future. So I need to build this box to a 3k setup. Sub will be ran on a mmats m3000.1 with 2 runs of welding wire with knu kollossus filling the gaps big 3 exc. I …

first off i am not mister know it all so please bare with i do know a lot but will see . but any ways what is it with resonant tuning frequency? would it be better to tune low as possible for like a t line and get a higher score? unless your talking frequency length. the lower in the octave you got the hard the bass hits right ??? with in reason of course like the sub dropping off and just can't play well at 18 hz were it plays better at 47 Hz etc etc ... because the music energy is reaching the mic at it full potential of 47Hz if you tune to high the spl drops off again so you lose power in the spl right??? so why would you look for a resonant frequency like 18 hert…

  7. Hello all, I'm new to this forum, but not to car audio. I am however new to the Sundown woofers. I'm hoping you all can lend some help and thank you in advance on my enclosure design. What I have is an 05 Acura TL I'm doin a pair of Sundown SA12s in the trunk. Subs to be fired foward and a 6in Aero either out the back or side. I have tried several enclosures with foward fired subs & port, but the car just did not really like it. Last setup was a single CV Stroker12, power was supplied by an O.S. USamps VLX400 1ohm mono. I had good results with two 4in PVC ports fired back, Sub obviously foward. Then tried a 6in Aero out the drivers side of box. The Aero was slightly b…

My buddy is trying to put a 18" fi ssd fully loaded in the back of his eagle summit van.. He has about 1200 watt rms of power to run the sub.. There is two different set of max dimensions we can use ( it all depends on how tall the box will actually be. The first set is a tall narrow box and our max dimensions are 27 1/4 tall X 39 wide X 15 Deep. And the other set is 20 1/2 deep X 39 wide X 21 tall. Any help would be wonderful... Would really like start build on box as soon as we can.. Also I would like it ported wit a tune right around 32 hz. And I not sure wat would sound best wit the speaker direction and port direction so any advice is wonderful.

So, I bought 2 12" DCONs and I'm currently building the box according to SSA's . I was wondering how I should go about building the front. Some websites suggest countersinking the subs so they are flush. I'm wondering what the correct design is for the actual SSA tech drawing. I'm sorry if this has been answered here before, I've searched and searched, but to no avail. I do plan on doing a build so that other people wont have much trouble. Thanks,

  20. I am currently taking advantage of the Audibel Customs free enclosure special and getting myself an SSA Icon 12". I am going to be going with a ported enclosure, and Quentin is currently working on my design. the first design he had was with the sub on an angle, firing towards the hatch, and port firing out the top. I had envisioned a upward firing sub and port, and a raised sub floor in the back to make it all flush. Now I realize that the box is just going to be so big regardless that the sub floor idea went out the window. I am only concerned with it hitting hard, going deep, and being able to keep up with my tastes in music. I drive a '05 Scion Xa, 160 amp alt, 0g …

Anyone know of any good Upstate NY Box builders, I was going to build my box myself but the Panel Saw that I was going to use is no longer available and I'm god awful with a circular saw. I'm in the Utica area to be specific willing to travel up to 1.5 hours for a good box, already have the designs courtesy of Alton. I'd also be open to out of state box builders but would have to be rather cheap due to the cost of shipping

Hey guys. I just picked up a new RE SX 15. Its going to be powered by a Sundown 1500D in a '08 Scion xB. I need help designing the box though. RE calls for 3 cu ft minimum, 4 cu ft optimal, and I would like to tune for 32Hz, sub firing up. The sub displaces 0.18 cu ft. The dimensions I have to build the box are 38.5"x18.5"x19". The pictures below should help to visualize. If there is too much space there, I'd like to cut a couple inches off the height, and then if still too much room, a couple off the width (18.5"). Help needed! ~Trevor

I have been trying to decide whether or not to go smaller with my box build. All of my buddies that are a little old school when it comes to spl say big boxes are the way to go... But when talking to people I compete with such as TJ in his Yugo doing 52's he says go smaller. My current box is 3.68 cubic feet after driver displacement, but not port displacement. 69 sq inches of port tuned to 42 hz. The woofers are two TC sounds OEM 10". I am thinking of shrinking down to a triple front baffled, double walled 2.4 cubic feet gross, and using 2 4" aero-ports and slightly raising my tuning as the change in box orientation changed my resonant, and building the wall (in the trun…

Okay, have done some reading around, and from what I'm seeing is that guys are getting good results in x-cab s-dimes with an up-firing sub/ side firing port design. So, I'm thinking I might give this a try. vehicle: 03 chev s-10 subwoofer: RE Audio SEx 15 (dual 4 ohm coils) Amplifier: JBL GTO 601 (600 watts @ 2 ohms) Looking at doing an enclosure out of .75" MDF Outside measurements: 15" height * 40" width * 16" depth Slot port: 14.5" wide * 3" high (port area of 43.5") * 23.5" long (tuning ~33.5 Hz) Net enclosure volume: 3.6 ft^3 Big question I have is, will 43.5" of port area be enough, or do I need more to prevent terrible port noise? Thanks for your opinions in advanc…
