OK, I really don't know a whole lot about computers, so sorry if this sounds stupid. A few months ago our old HP tower became so infected with viruses and trojan horses that I couldn't keep up with getting rid of them. I had some software guys from work install a ton of virus protection, but it just kept getting all messed up every few days (it was almost 10 years old) so I said hell with it and bought a brand new computer. My laptop was asleep, I wake it up and it shows the log in page for a second then flips to the first startup screen like it rebooted, which shouldnt have happened. The status bar at the bottom of the screen gets about 75% across then freezes. I shut it down manually and now it will turn on and the cd drive will make its normal start up noise but nothing happens past that....no start up screen, just black. Seems like I had a similar problem years ago on my desktop and the problem was dead RAM. If i put my ear to the HDD it sounds like its running. Sound like a ram problem? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this POS?

1) on my second computer, the ethernet card says it's working, yet we can't get online. we compeltely restored it about two weeks ago, i've upped my dsl to 3mbps down, 768up and at first the computer worked fine. (we had to retore it due to the exact same problem) now, it's not letting the computer log on. says it can't find or refresh the network address. says to contact the network admin or ISP. how do i fix this? 2)where does one find movies to download? like the ones that just came out or aren't out yet? wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Interested in the capability of a ramdisk.. I have a q9300 running at 3.4ghz, ddr2 corsair dominator at right under 1066. Gave just 600mb of memory to ramdisk. All my other drives in the computer are standard 7200rpm drives either individual or Raid 1. I compared my 7200rpms first using Crystal Diskmark. I only tested the SEQ test.. they were in the mid 90s in both read and write... i have a zenith HD LCD projection tv... lastnight i watched a movie no problems at all.... today i went to tuen it on.... when it should have been warming up my "bulb" light was flashing... so i guess my bulb went out. has anyone here ever replaced bulbs on a zenith?

So, it goes like this, i got up from my chair and i forgot the power cord was still plugged into my laptop. So this resuted in my computer being yanked right out of my hands. So i took it into our local computer guy and he said that i fvcked up my hard drive beyond repair. This makes sense to me because everytime i try to boot it, it says "Cannot find operating System". So my question is, instead buying a brand new Hard Drive for my computer could i just use my Portable Hard Drive for my main hard drive and then just buy a brand new Windows Vista for my computer? My Only problem "I" think i will have with this is that it wont be fast enough because it really isnt made …

I'm going to be getting some money in shortly, and I figured I'd put it towards my music computer to finally get it where I'd want... As it stands, I've got a Dell Poweredge 600SC running XP. 2.4GHz P4, 512MB cache, 256MB RAM. Hard drive right now is a Western Digital 250GB IDE, 8MB cache. Obviously, that's nowhere near enough storage for me. I was thinking about taking advantage of that guy that's selling WD 250GB drives over on CA.com for pretty good prices, Sean's mentioned before that the 2MB cache of those shouldn't cause a problem when searching/during playback...I have three open bays, what would be the easiest way to combine three drives so it looks like one ~750G…

i got a jvc head unit that is campatible with cd-r/cd-rw. for some reason i can rarely play philips cd-rws. i have not tried any other brand but does anyone know how a good brand of cd-rw that would work well with car head units? my headunit also plays any cd-r brand just fine. o n sorry if this is the wrong place for this topic

Is it just me or has the website been running REALLY slowly lately? I'm on here and CA.com at the same time most days and suddenly about a week ago I've had a hard time with this site loading completely and being EXTREMELY slow... the little green box in the top center of the page that says "Loading..." never goes away anymore either.... I've been through everything in explorer and its just as slow in FireFox and on my other two computers.... just wondering if it's my going crazy or if anyone else has had problems....

I need some help picking programs to use for cleaning and keeping my computer(s) secure. Currently on my computer I use CCleaner, ZoneAlarm firewall, Secunia PSI, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials. On my wife's laptop I have Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and CCleaner. Basically, what I need to know is which of these should I keep, which ones should I get rid of and what else, if anything, I should be using? Is freeware ok to use, or should I look for some kind of paid all-in-one service? BTW, I'm pretty computer illiterate (but not totally ).
