ok, i just finished tom's (TLM) ported enclosure for his future purchase of an rl-i8. in the meantime he said i could plug mine into it for playaround time. box specs are as follows, 1ft^3 tuned to 34hz with one 3" round port. was going to be .75ft^3 with one 4" port, but i couldn't fit the port inside the box..lol....anyway... power is supplied by an orion 2500d. at 8ohms. i have no clue as to the power it's getting, but i'd say at least 500wrms. and wow, can this thing go low for an 8! it gets low enough it knocked the terminal cup out of the back of the box, so i glued it...knocked it out again, made larger hole for more glue..knocked it out again. so i've got to go ge…

well first off Hello to all the people on this forum. this is my fist post and I want to figure some stuff out. OK first off I am a "nood" when it comes to box building. and I have come to the decision to purchase 2 12" Rl-p's because well they look like damn sexxxy subs and people have said good things about them..NOTHING BAD!!!. and the price is great. anyhoo. I need help getting box specs for my pathfinder. I have no clue on tuning a box. and what would the best tuning be for them. in a ported box. That is a little drawing of what my specs are for my pathfinder. if anyone can help me design a box for 2 12"s ported. [i dont know what the best frequency would be for t…

Ok, Got the 4 RE8's in my friends truck, he likes them, a lil port noise, but he likes them. but he wants something that drops lower. i plainly asked him when i was deigning this one if he wanted it to drop low... he said he doesnt care about low notes...he just wants loud. hence the 36Hz tuning. now he wants low and louder...and hes had it a whole 4 days with the gians set correctly. He is thinking about a JL w7 13 sine he wants something that will sound good, get loud, and drop low off of the 500/1 he has. i immediatly though of a list of driver fitting the bill without going cookie cutter w713. in come RL-s 12. My question is, what kind of enclosre for car and what k…

Picking up some 12" LMS 4K's (have one now, the other should be along this week). Just wondering I know they seem to use the same style motor/basket/surround and svc LMS 3 ohm coil. Looking for some input on real world application from someone who has done some testing in differnt alignment boxes with this style driver.

I am posting this hear rather than the amplifier section on the team ssa forums, simply because there are more SS users right here If this should be moved, thats np at all. What I need is an amp to power my single RL-p 12" D2. So im looking at 1 ohm and 4 ohms. for budget it would reeally be nice not to be broke after, and have to save up for weeks again to get some comps. Things like the eD 9.1 for 350 is probably the highest I want to go. and I know that there is a lot of hifonics things that can do the job. at the same time I have heard alot of nasty stories about em. This is my first system.. and can upgrade later, just want to get the ball rolling on it. Any a…

  9. First of all I want to say thanks to Mike for kickin ass and I love my RL-p. So I have an RL-p 12 in a .55cuft net sealed box (its inside the cab of my car behind the pass seat, I hate the way trunks make bass sound muffled and quiet). It's running off of a PPI 2150 (about 500-600wrms). I had a local high end audio shop run software for this sub (and confirmed their numbers with other internet sites) for a Q of .7 Seeing how that is what most sq people rec I went with that. My question, the speaker seems to distort when driven hard and I'm trying to figure out if it is the speaker distorting or the amp clipping. Freeair testing this sub it looks like it can move way fart…

OK... Buddy wanted to buy my RLp-12 and 'try it out' before paying up. He neglected to adjust gains and crossover on his amp, much to my chagrin, and burned up the voice coils. Apparently his head unit did not have a sub RCA pre-out, so he used the rear RCA pre-outs, which was sending full range to the subwoofer amp. Additionally the gains were turned all the way up (he has some Audiobahn 1000w RMS amp) and the crossover was wide open. So, after connecting the amp he popped in a CD and proceeded to send a full range signal at max gain the RLp-12 for about 30-45 seconds. The result: burned voice coils and the sub seized What are my options to get this guy repaired? M…

Any input would be appreciated. In the market for some new drivers. Since I've had so much success with the RL-i8, I thought I would try out the 10s . Option 1.) 3 RL-i10's. Sealed .48ft^3 net volume each. 433 watts rms each. Orion 1200d @ .67ohms. Option 2.) 2 RL-i10's. Sealed .53ft^3 net volume each. 650 watts rms each. Orion 1200d @ 1ohm. Main question is about the Orion. Will it be stable @ .67ohms. I don't know how impedance rise effectively changes in a small sealed box. I don't see the enclosure space difference of .05ft^3 effecting much low end output. Any thoughts? Advice? Opinions? Love to hear what you guys would suggest Thanks Adam

  13. I wanted to get this amp but will it give sufficient head room for the sub. I know that sundown amps are awesome which is why i want one but some people say you need a little more power on the amp than what the sub needs. The sub will be ported to which mike recommends only 800 watts to it (I think). That will give an extra 200 watts in solitude until called upon during spikes in bass lines. Is that enough or do i need more? I want this one because its cheaper than the 1500d. Any suggestions and confirmations will be greatly appreciated.

I'm writing this mini review to try and convince anyone who who might have the same reservations that i did, not to worry. I'm not real technical so this wont be very technical either. I was concerned about the output from a single 15". I mostly go for SQ, but on the rare occasion i put in a rap cd, i want that chit to get loud..while maintaining SQ. Ive also never owned a vented box, only sealed. So buying something based only on what people say on the net made me a little nervous. I decided to go for it and try a d4 15" in 3.5cf net @ 28hz in my gangster ass escort hatchback I am powering it with a PG xenon x200.4. Bridged down to 2 channels each VC gets a little o…

I was loading the parameters into WinISD and noticed that there is no SPL parameter. Is it safe to just use the default one provided by WinISD? (I got 87.59 for a 12" RL-p) Also the paramenters on the site do not distinguish between 2 and 4 ohm subs. I don't think that the RE for both is 3.8. I have heard that these subs are very compairable to the Brahma. Compairing the curve on WinISD, inputing the same box size and freq., there is a big difference in performance, possibly due to the parameters I put in. Anyone got a flash light? Hey Mike, since these are a DIY sub, it might be kinda neat to have the drivers for WinISD, LEAP, BBP and other popular programs downloadable …

i traded my $500 gift certificate for these 2 db extreme soundstreams. they seem to be a little bit beefier than the RL-p's they are ran to a .5 ohm final load. my amp seems to be doing ok, w/ impedance rise i expect it to be around 1ohm. i'll graph it later to make sure. the basket is about 1/8-1/4" bigger on the dbx's. well here's the pics.....

  17. I have a guy on CA.com thats going to build me a box for my single RL-p 15. I told him from several recommendations, 3.5cubic feet at 32hz. He has a box thats 4 cubic feet tuned at 28hz thats already build and good to go, (ive seen it as well) Which box would you choose? Sub is a Dual 4 wired to 2 ohm, powered by a Kicker ZX750.1. I listen to alot of music, but love old school R&B and rap if im in the mood. As always any feedback is apperciated, thanks.

  19. OK so I have a few uberquality phone pics for now, will post some more real pics later. Built a .49 ft^3 (.4 + .09 for displacement) enclosure out of 3/4 MDF so it'll bolt up to the 'ski hole' on my bimmer. Getting the angle to fit snug against the slope of the back seat was a little tough, but it came out in the end (my first box assembling experience). I did black carpet for the face, as I have black interior. Back of the enlosure is gray to match the carpet in the trunk. Box was screwed shut and glued / sealed using Loctite Construction Adhesive (claims no fumes, but I still let it dry 24 hours). Specs: 5.25" Vifa components in the front doors (fatmat added, more on or…

OK whipped up an idea for my regular cab truck... I have a sealed box right now but I'm contemplating going ported. Specs: 16.25 in^2 of port area.. 60in. port length .67 ft^3 for the woofer That should put it tuned at 32hz, according to the calculator I used online. The port is facing the passenger side of the cab, sub firing forward. Lemme know what you think. Too many bends in the tube? Too high of tuning for good sq? Not enough port surface area? Would I get alot of port noise? I seem to remember talking to Mike in an email and he said 14 in^2 was all I needed for port area. I really dont know how its possible to tune a ported enclosure to the specs that are on SS's …
