SoundSplinter

  1. Before hand i had a 12 Infinity Perfect running off of a JL Audio 250/1, then upgraded to an RL-P Dual 2 ohm with a Nine.1 as the amp. Box is a subzone prefab 1.03 cu ft sealed box before driver displacement. The sound quality is phenomal, but the output so far is a complete joke. It has no more SPL than my Perfect did, and if i attempt to turn the HU volume or gain up, the sub begins to clip and bottom out. It also moves an incredible amount, and doesn't seem to be putting out output anywhere close to where it should be by the looks of how much it is moving. Are my problems all in my box, or does it sound like i have something else going on? We used a Volt-meter and…

I bought an RLS-15 (sorry not an RLP-15) a few years ago with a Behringer EP-2500 with the best intentions, to build an IB manifold in my livingroom ceiling. It turns out I am not a good carpenter and chickened out on cutting a manifold opening in my ceiling, so my IB dreams never came true. I just can't seem to make anything pretty out of plywood and MDF. I've listed the amp and speaker on ebay and hope that the RLP-15 will find a deserving home with someone who really understands this driver's capabilities. I ended up just putting a Axiom 12" subwoofer cube in the livingroom. I was sad to hear that Soundsplinter is closing and wish the owners best of luck in their next …

Weds, Nov. 2nd I received the RLS-12" for the demo ring. I'll start with the summary, because there is alot of typing and I know alot of people don't want to read it all. In the end, and IN MY OPINION: The RLS is an awfully impressive driver. The output of this thing is downright impressive. As more then one "well known" engineer has said, You don't need 40 Newton Meters of force to make a driver strong. It also seems that the early estimates (based on driver spec's) are correct - this is not much of an In-Car driver. I was expecting this as well, but was hoping to be surprised. The LMT motor design itself seemed to come together awfully well. The driver stood up to ful…

I'm going to be purchasing Sound Splinter RLP's here soon, to upgrade from my current 2 12" Kicker CVR's (03 model) and this time around, I'm looking for 100% more SQ while still getting fairly loud. I heard great things about these subs and how great their SQ is, which got me wanting to check these out. My amp is a JBL GTO1201.1, 787rms @ 4ohms and 1114rms @ 2ohms. If I went with 2 12's, I wouldn't be able to power them properly, but if I got a single 15" I think 1114rms would be perfect. I'm going for a sealed enclosure for either sub (I don't mind ported, I'm just a bigger fan of sealed) Now, after switching from 2 SPL subs, I'm afraid I'd be disappointed in output wit…

I am posting this hear rather than the amplifier section on the team ssa forums, simply because there are more SS users right here If this should be moved, thats np at all. What I need is an amp to power my single RL-p 12" D2. So im looking at 1 ohm and 4 ohms. for budget it would reeally be nice not to be broke after, and have to save up for weeks again to get some comps. Things like the eD 9.1 for 350 is probably the highest I want to go. and I know that there is a lot of hifonics things that can do the job. at the same time I have heard alot of nasty stories about em. This is my first system.. and can upgrade later, just want to get the ball rolling on it. Any a…

  8. Ok, After doing a few more hours of research tonight, I learned a few things: Couches can act like bass traps & its ok to fire the driver up. In light of the furniture issue, I do like the two front firing drivers with the one being higher than my couch. I like the idea of having a driver that is unobstructed from my listening position. What do you think of going for the same dimensions as the thiel ss4? 19"W x 28"D x 51" H With 2 RL-p15's, and the Adire 1200@4ohm with LT plate amp? http://www.adireaudio.com/Home/ADASubAmps.htm I am willing to adjust the cabinet size to match the drivers, but this is where I am stuck. The soundsplinter site says "2.5 cu ft, with the g…

Hey whats up guys, i'm new to these forums. I've noticed that the soundsplinter website has gone slightly inactive and i was wondering if there is anything going on with the company right now. I've put in an order in for 2 12" dual 2 Rl-p subwoofers and it was said that i would recieve confirmation within 1 buisness day. This is all fine but i've realized that i require dual 4's rather than dual 2's. When i went back to the website, it seemed that i was out of luck that the dual 4 versions of the subwoofers are out of stock . I was hoping i could cancel my order for the dual 2s and get a confirmation on the dual 4s but i have not recieved an email yet for my first order, …

Ok well ive pretty much decided on getting a single 12" RL-p i will most likely go for the dual 4ohm coil config, but what im having problems deciding on is what amp to buy and the best size box to build for it and weather to go sealed or to port it. im pretty much open to anything but have roughly a $200 to $250 budget on the amp. Thanks in advance, Matt

Im looking to put a pair of sl-i10 in my dodge quad cab. The box will be fitting underneath the seat with dual .57 cu. ft. chambers. I need to know if this is enough airspace to run these, and also how much power to run to them. I am looking at either a KX 850.2, or maybe a KX1200.1 or something to that sort. Also, i shoud use polyfill in the box...right?

My sister wants something louder in her car. Right now she has two JL 10w1v2's in the JL ported box with about 500 watts going to the pair. I don't really know much about SoundSplinter products but I was wondering if a 15" RL-p in a 3 ft^3 box @ ~ 30hz (already have) would be noticeably louder than what she has now. The RL-p would probably be run off a Nine.1 @ 1 ohm. She listens to mostly rap and R&B. The only other sub that has been in that car was a 15" RF P3 in the same ported box so if a RL-p would be louder than both of these setups it looks like that is what I will buy (I know they are backordered but it will probably be about a month before I buy them). A…

hey guys! My job is being great and allowing me to use the shop to build a box this saturday! I plan to finally FINISH my trunk! As in finish, i mean, 2 amps, a battery, anbd my current sub box are free floating in my trunk X_X So with this opportunity i can build a box to specifications. Right now its(rl-p 15 btw) in a sealed box somewhere under 2 cu ft, not sure exactly. The site says optimal 3 cu ft. Now here is the question, should i stay sealed and build a box to specs, or should i go ported? I enjoy the balance my subwoofer gives me now, hits the lows, and also extends a bit into the top end to help out my AA mids (80-100). So i would like all the SS fans opinions o…

It's bigger then the last box I had in there for the 15". I got about 7.2 cubes with this one. I'll get more pix up later. It's going to have 2 6" aero ports tuned to 34hz, and a Orion 2500d.

I was thinking about the RL-i8 or maybe a 10, I want to go with a sealed box under the rear seat and have a 600w mono amp to run it. Do these subs sound good sealed or should I go a different route? I just finished ordering my Rl-p 12, and I cant wait to get it. I think i messed up a little, see what I did was buy an amp before sub thinking that I was going to get a different sub, but now I decided on this one. The first problem I have is way too much power I beleive. I have the Lanzar Opti 2000D, which will put out 1100 at 2 ohms. I will obviously keep the gains turned down. The main point of this post is the enclosure for me that will handle some of that power and sound good doing it. It seems that most ppl around here say to try this thing sealed, but I have a few questions about that first. The kind of music I listen to is country, rock, and some rap, so I n…
