Been itchin to go ported for a long time now, since I've never heard my RLp 15 ported before. Whats the smallest volume (before port area) would you guys go for a ported setup?

I know the rl-p's are solid LSQ drivers, but just how much is the split between sq and spl? I used to have a pair of L7 12's and was happy with the spl, but not as happy with the sq. I liked those subs and since both are around the same price range, i was wondering how the rlp's would compare to the L7's spl-wise thanks

http://www.soundsplinter.com/images/videos...-RLi10-porn.WMV The above video was taken in low light with a camera I'm unfamiliar with. Hopefully in the future I will master that damn camera and get some clearer pictures up here. The woofer in the picture is running in a sealed enclosure with another RL-i10, off of a bridged Pioneer amplifier feeding each woofer approximately 190 wrms. The volume on the Pioneer head unit during the video is at approximately 50% - I'll get something more impressive up here sometime soon Well now that we've been up and running solid for a few months, I know there's others out there with these bad boys. So.. Where the hell are the pic's?…

I started out with 5^3 @30Hz for 2 15's per Mike from SS. SQ was excellent and lows were amazing. I consider this my reference box. Then I went to 5.8^3 @35Hz. Was shooting for 6^3 @ 34Hz, but did some goofy math at 2am. Subs had more punch in the mid/upper bass, but lacked low end compared to the "ref" box. It was definitely louder, but lacked impact. I tried it for 2 days and didn't care for it. I extended the ports and ended up with 5.4^3 @ 32Hz. I consider this the ultimate tune for LSQ. Plenty of deep lows, loud as he!!, and still very articulate and musical. Kick drums literally beat the car to death. Thank god for the 150#'s of sound deadener I have in there, but…

Hey all, today i had a chance to meet the infamous Mike from Sound Splinter! I was thinking..."its Mike i actually met mike!!" Great guy to talk to and deal with, extremely down to earth too. ummm oh yea. also got my rl-p from the gb... monster sub... when mike handed the sub to me, i was like "wow. this is heavy." Happyface!!! err upside down? Compared to the canteloupe! La Familia! (Left to right: RL-p, IDQ, RE8, Rainbow CS mid) Midgets the RE8 I like this pic , rlp wants to eat the cs mid. And thanks again mike, for your unbeatable customer service!

Recently purchased a used RLP 15, and have my eye on another one online. I have a friend whos going to build me a nice ported box for the subs, but until I can get the rest of the money for that, I wanted to try it sealed based on the reviews I have heard. I have a sealed box I had a pair of Kicker Comp VRs in but heres my question. The box is only 1.95 cubic feet per chamber, ( suppose to be 2.0 but is off just a lil bit) I know the displacement of the RLP 15 is 0.18 cubic feet, would I be choking the sub in that box? I thought about inverting it, to save on some space inside the box. This would only be a temp install until I can get my ported box completed. Also, im g…

1st Would 800wrms be ok for a RL-s 12" sub in a sealed box at 2cu. I would like to try one out but not sure if I have the power. 2nd RL-i 8s I have them in my car now in a .4cu each sealed they sound real nice. I miss the overpowering bass of the RL-p12 ported. I do like the sound of these sealed . I would like to know what you think the most power they could handle in a seal box. I like the little room they take up. I was thinking about getting a bigger amp for them. right now they are getting 400wrms each do you think they could take 600-700 each or is this not a good idea. Thanks for your help. Mike J

I was originally going to go sealed 2.1 cuft enclosure for a pair of Soundsplinter RL-p 15"s from my box builder. However, he worked out the specs and told me a 4th order bandpass would work better and worked out a response curve. What do you think? Will this work better for Sound quality purposes? The yellow line is the response for sealed 2.1 cuft and the teal is bandpass response. He didn't give me any enclosure size details except the exterior dimensions... " The dimensions you will want to know about are 31"d, 41"w, 18"h at the front, 4" high at the back, and the horizontal part of the box extends 10.75" from the front, which is the depth needed for the sealed cham…

Well, the 15s will be here yesterday and I haven't built a box yet. I've got a 4.8 cube NET @ 31hz box that was for my atlas 15...I was thinking of using it w/ one of the rl-p and running it at 500 rms since that is all I have available at the time. How do the RL-ps react to a too big box? Will it be alright sounding or should I not even go through the trouble of rigging it up?? (Rigging it up consists of switching some amps around b/c I don't have an amp for the subs, I'd have to use my SoundStream which on the highs right now, then take my xtant 1.1i and bridge the fronts into 1 channel) Max fudge around time of 2 hours, but j/w if it'll wang at all.

Just like the title says does anyone have any first hand experience with the prototype TC Sounds LMT drivers. What were they like first hand? What size was it and what would you compare it to from your own experience? I am trying to figure out if the SS LMT is gonna really be a viable single woofer solution for me or if I should go with a dual setup of lesser woofers. Thanks Jerry

I was over on another forum and someone suggested the rl-i10. Gotta say thats a beefy looking 10". If I were to order 1 what size sealed box would be ideal for the best possible LOUD SOUND QUALITY? I would be giving it a good 500RMS of a Memphis 500D. On a side note how would this sub compare to a basic mainstream 12" sub? Matt

Is 81 square inches of port area enough for an RL-p 18? The box I'm thinking of building is sub up ports back(2, with bent-mdf-flares) in the trunk of a 94 cadillac deville. Net volume is about 6.4ft^3 tuned to just under 27hz. The two ports are 3x13.5 and then flared exit. It will only be seeing about 600-700 watts (Crossfire 1502 bridged)

I am about to get ahold of a Rockford 1501bd which puts out 1500 watts @ 2 ohms...I was just wondering if this would be too much power for the 18" RL-P? I have heard the rating of 1,000 watts is very conservative..

its weird. i play Young Bloodz - Presidential Tish and when it hits that low note, the sub moves like a mother, like ALOT but barely any bass comes out of it. is it because my box is sealed and the f3 is too high for that note? or is it something else? btw its an rlp 2.0 cubes sealed with 800w

Ok, I just purchased the new 18" RL-p (D4). The problem I have is the only amp I have is an Orion 2500d. It'll do 1800w rms @ 2ohm. The 18" is rated at 1000-1200w rms (I think). Would I be ok with turning down the gains? I dont have another amp at this time. I do plan on sending in an RE 12.1 amp I have in great condition to get fixed. It "rattles" when you move it. When I bought it, I was told that it was BNIB. When I opened it, it was making the rattling noise. The guy I bought it from wont return my PM's, emails, calls, etc. Any info on how I can make it work would be great. Thx guys, Vic.

wanting to try some "different" subs. I've read alot of great reviews on these. Each sub will have approx. 900 watts rms. This will be a daily vehicle so tuned around 30-35hz. I do compete in db drag but mainly bass race. Vehicle will be a 2001 2 door blazer. Thanks in advance.

ookay i was givin this some thought.... if mike is able to special order a blank cone to sign for me, should i have 1 rlp, 2 cubes ported to 32hz w/800w goin into it, or have a dual RLp 1-1.2kw/piece at 1cube sealed (prolly with some pollyfill) im gonna use the same box no matter what: IMO the dual RL-ps would look way hotter, but would there be THAT much acoustical difference? mike said they would be similar, what do you think? the dual setup also gives me an excuse to run an AX2000
