SoundSplinter

  1. Hey, want your guys opinion on my setup and what to do. The review here and interactions with Mike have convinced me to go with a SoundSplinter. I will push it with either 310wrms (PG M44) or 500wrms (PG zx475ti). My choice due to volume is either a sealed Rlp 12" or ported 10" RLi. I haven't ordered the sub yet but have started on the mold for the box. Here are pics of the beginning.

As most of us know the RL-i 8 is not avaliable anymore. It is being revamped by Mike to be made that much better. So far, all i know about the new RL-i 8 is the surround will be changed to something softer, yes, no more high rol. As well as a different spider. But what about that cone ????? I love the spun black aluminum on all the other woofers. The old RL-i 8 used the not so nice painted aluminum cone. Any chance in getting the new one to have that sweet spun blacK aluminum ?

  3. Hey there guys! Last you guys heard from me I was trying to get some help with my burnt voice coil rli-8. Since then I bought 2 of these rl-i8s from Patented17 in the classifieds section. I spoke to Mike (owner of SS) and and I've commissioned SPY (all credit with the box goes to him!) to custom build an enclosure for my subs. He did his best to get the specs in the confined area that is my vehicles trunk, to match the optimal specs for the rli-8 according to the website The box itself is .3cuft tuned to 33 hz and I know will play down low very well. Here is where you guys come in. I have a clarion DZX785USB (link) that has preout voltage of 6v, and I have a pair of Cla…

  5. Hey everybody, since I haven't had time to completely revamp our product pages as I am planning on doing soon, I figured I'd post some images of our new cosmetics since we have started shipping our fully black annodized aluminum coned woofers. We will henceforth be producing our entire inventory with these entirely black annodized aluminum cones, with the exception of the new RL-i8's, which will continue using painted aluminum cones (black on the front, silver on the back). Enjoy!

i'm thinking of going sealed. it'll be around 2-2.5ft per sub. my question is how much output will i lose? ported only adds 3db, right? will the better sq be worth it? in your opinions? the main reason for the switch is it'll be easier to do than the huge ported and that tc gave me some ideas for a kick@ss fiberglass install

Not for sure if i will be getting the new amp yet, but its an Elevation audio DX2000.1. I was told it would do 1200-1300 at 2ohm. I am planning on getting a 15" RL-p. So, what do you guys think about 1300rms going to it?? I know it will be fine. So the next question, what type of box should i make sinch i am throwing so much power at them?? Should I go sealed just to be on the safe side??

First off, you can see the new logo that we are using on all new Premium Series drivers in the above picture. It came out beautifully on the annodized aluminum cones, crisp printing with a slightly metallic copper sheen to it. We will be phasing this logo onto all new Premium and future Ignition Series drivers. All current 12" RL-p's feature this logo, while the 15" RL-p will continue to feature the solid "S" logo until the current stock runs out. Secondly, we received our new 12" stock this week and now have both the RL-p12 and RL-p15 D4 drivers available for immediate shipping. Third, and perhaps the most exciting news - due to popular demand, we are re- introduc…

I have a 2002 S-10 2 door Blazer. Right now i have a pioneer slim sub and box built to fit behind a reg cab s10. Well the 12 is going bye bye to a fellow truck club memeber and i want to have the best of both worlds. 1. Bass 2. Space (cargo) So my question is, what is the smallest box i can go for a rl-i8??? Also will this amp be suffecient? Our newest product - the RL-p18 - joins the ranks of two of the most affordable, versatile, low- distortion, high-excursion woofers in our Premium Series line of low-frequency transducers. Known for their flexibility in accomodating a variety of home and car audio applications in sealed, vented, and infinite baffle alignments, the RL-p18 steps up with its massive displacement advantage, linear output, and absolutely stellar value. Featuring a triple-stacked 215 ounce magnet structure, vented six-spoke cast aluminum basket, 3 inch voicecoil, aluminum shorting ring, dual 8.5" spiders with woven leadwires to eliminate tinsel-slap while allowing for long linear throw ca…

Get it yesterday and its seen about 3 hours of play time and its working great. Very basic looking which I like, BUT I also didnt know you could get chit put on the cone. its in 2.5cubes gross, 2.3ish net. Box sounds good, I like big sealeds, definitly muddy on some songs. Woofer is working great im not pushing it hard right now but ill open it up in another few weeks. So far its a good woofer. I'm anticipating opening it in up a few weeks to justlfy the 300 dollar price tag, also at which time I will have tried it out in a ported box so I can make that comparasion. With that Im off to do some more tuning, and crank Guns N Roses. And im going to eat a Rochester Garbage pl…

I have a dual 2 ohm 12'' RL-P. I use a directed 1100D directed amp. I'm going tgo wire it for a 1 ohm load. So that would be 1100 watts at 1ohm. I'll keep my gains set right so i dont over power it. I listen to mostly rock, and trance music. but on the occasion i listen to some rap and stuff. I want to do a sealed box. what should the volume be? Thanks guys!

check out my plans: i decided to go round port cuz one, its soo much easier to calculate and make, and 2 its easier to fire it into my cabin (the port will be positioned right underneath my first aid kit space). the reason why the sub cutout is so high, is cuz i wanna make a false floor for the amps, and this way my sub box wont tip over ~2.0 tuned to 31 will be okay rite? i need opinions

Hey guys, well someone was selling their pair of 12" rl-i's on the caraudio forums and so I had to jump on it. I've been wanting a pair of the RL-P's for a long time but I couldn't bring myself to pay $430 for the pair and then another $120 for shipping to Canada . Well I've read these subs are more SQ than SPL, these would be going into a total 2.5 cu feet sealed box so 1.25 cu feet each. They will be powered by a Crossfire BMF1000D so ~500 watts rms each. My question is, did I choose the right subs? I read all this stuff about the RL-P's but I never see anything about the I's. I was looking for an LSQ set up, lots of SPL but SQ at the same time as well. I'm looking fo…

I have been searching around for a decent sounding 18" sub...and I wanted to compare the RL-s with the Havoc (even though there is no 18" RL-s)...regardless... why does it seem like everyone goes with the RLp instead of the RL-s?? Kinda confused me... is the RLs more SPL oriented?? also if anyone has a good suggestions for a nice sounding LSQ 18" sub that can take about 2k+ please let me know, cause im having a hard time finding one myself...its either that, or 2 12's... I would like something that I can use sealed, but also ported...Hence why I was looking at the Havoc, but it has limited power handling it seems. Thx

I thought it'd be a good idea to create a central thread for the plans that we are making for the demo driver. Something that we can reference during and post-testing, something that we can reference for the many reviews to come. I 'll have to get Kent in here soon, as He'll have hands on it next week. As I'd told Mike, I should have plenty of power and space availible in-car, errr esuvee. I'll test mostly in car, as that's easiest for me (where the equipment supports it), though I may still try it in home (if I can source an amp by then). Insofar, for power I'm working with a pair of Orion 1200D's strapped. Nominal power of 2400wrms @ 2ohm. I don't have any plans to use…

i got it today. i haven't had a lot of time to listen to it. i had it started out in 7ft sealed. didn't sound to bad, but not alot of output. opened her up...6ft @ 37Hz. ALOT more output. i'm running the bare min 800w, this baby is power hungry! w/ less than 1000w i've heard better...sorry mike this weekend i'm getting together w/ my friend, and were gonna play w/ LOTS of power maybe strapping it to a pair of bd1000's here is some pics of it sitting by my 15's, holding its own, and my ghetto box for it.

Would a viper 1200.1 wired to 1 ohm be better than a pg tantrum 1200.1 wired to 4 ohms? Which one rates there power at a lower volt? I would probaly get the pg used and the viper new.
