Hey all i was thinkin about doin a bandpass for my RL-p. would be an interesting project, having the bass ported directly into the cabin through my first aid kit hole. Mr. Coleman said it would be the best bet so i wont lose any of the bass in the trunk space (or something like that). What are yall opinions on that?

Okay so what box size would be heaven for a 12" RL-p D2 getting 700-800 watts max. I want a ported box tuned to 24Hz. I have about 3 cubic feet available. What would be heaven for the woofer?

I first built a 1.7 ft^3 slot ported box tuned to 32hz for my RL-p 12 and it handled my Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 with no problems at all. This weekend I built a 1.4 ft^3 sealed box which would give me 1.28 ft^3 net after sub displacement. The problem is that my amp easily overpowers the RL-p causing it to emit some less than favorable sounds when I turn it up. I then put it in a 1.13 ft^3 box (net), which helped some but I still cannot crank it. The enclosure specs say I should be using 1.0 ft^3 or less but then I read on here that 1.25 was the ideal amount of air space for this sub. What would be the ideal size box for the RL-p with 1200 watts RMS? Any help w…

i've only had about 2 hours listening and i imagine like almost everything else audio,it will change slightly as it 'breaks in' but my first impressions of it are, 60hz and above-'very subtle'.......... 60hz and below-'demonic authority', 65 mph 1 hour each way ,windows open, wife in the car (so REAL volume was not an option) but the detail in the real low end realms was extrodinary?(these are the frequencies that i have always found impossible to hear in a moveing car as road noise and wind and the like kindof negate any output in this range (20-40hz) from any driver i have ever previously owned, the rl-p must move so much air,or something? it over-rides,over powers the o…

I have my 2 rl-p 15s in 5 cubes tuned to 31 hz. I have my Orion 2500d at 4 ohms giving them around 600 watts apiece. If I turn the gain up a little more than it is, the cone makes kinda like a pinging noise when it hits real hard. I measured my voltage and it stays around 13.5 so I dont think its clipping. Am I simply pushing them too hard or is it possibly clipping or what? I backed off on the gain and the noise went away but the output went down. Are aluminum cones known to make a noise when they are playing this loud, or what? It only makes the noise when I stick my head pretty close. The noise isnt a big deal but I just figured I was pushing them too hard so I backed…

  10. I'm thinking of doing two boxes; each box containing dual Rl-i 8"s in between 1 and 1.3ft^3 with a 15" passive radiator tuned to about 30hz. So 4 total with two boxes I'll be glassing it all, and I'll have either my colossus GenXX or maybe even something nicer cough Goliath cough. According to the new testing its doing less power than the colossus but gets more spl due to the name I suppose . http://audioforum.termpro.com/ubb/ultimate...011444/p/3.html very intresting it's doing less power but but spl... So I'm thinking of trying something of that nature. I'm getting a pair of BD1500's soon I hope, so I'll test with those when I get the new truck. And *hopfully* 4 Rl-i…

I just met Mike yesterday and he is a real cool guy. He's got a great head on his shoulders and seems like a very well rounded individual. I would never had been able to guess his age based on how he carries himself. And although he is much younger than I expected in his case his youth is not a bad thing at all, just makes me jealous. I wish I had been as focused and with as much direction as he has when I was his age. Definately one of the sharper knives in the drawer. I wish you much continued success bro. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you. Your upstanding character is easily seen. We only talked for a short time, but I was very impressed. I come from a world fill…

Hey guys, well someone was selling their pair of 12" rl-i's on the caraudio forums and so I had to jump on it. I've been wanting a pair of the RL-P's for a long time but I couldn't bring myself to pay $430 for the pair and then another $120 for shipping to Canada . Well I've read these subs are more SQ than SPL, these would be going into a total 2.5 cu feet sealed box so 1.25 cu feet each. They will be powered by a Crossfire BMF1000D so ~500 watts rms each. My question is, did I choose the right subs? I read all this stuff about the RL-P's but I never see anything about the I's. I was looking for an LSQ set up, lots of SPL but SQ at the same time as well. I'm looking fo…

i traded my $500 gift certificate for these 2 db extreme soundstreams. they seem to be a little bit beefier than the RL-p's they are ran to a .5 ohm final load. my amp seems to be doing ok, w/ impedance rise i expect it to be around 1ohm. i'll graph it later to make sure. the basket is about 1/8-1/4" bigger on the dbx's. well here's the pics.....

  17. i was wondering what the limit is, power wise, of these subs. the website says anywhere from 300-1200. i picked up an orion 2500D and planned to power 2 12" rl-p's with it. my box is 3.6 cubes tuned to 32 hz. i'm starting to be concerned as to wether or not these subs will be able to handle this power. i'll make sure to set my gains properly and subsonic filter and all that good stuff.

  18. Im building a box to fit in the middle seat of a dodge ram so this is what I could do 1 12" RL-p sealed in a 1.5 cuft box or 2 12's in .70 cuft stuffed with pollyfill. If I used 2 12's they would both get 750 watts. These box sizes are after sub displacement. What would you guys do.

I have heard many mixed reviews as to how much these subs will actually handle. I have heard about the very strong motor, 2.3'' long 3'' diameter 4 layer VC, and dual spiders. I hear that they have the same thermal power handling as the RE XXX due to the VC. However, are they limited by their mechanical power handling or something else? They sound like they are suited for a lot of abuse but then I recently heard that they do not like abuse (from owners) and that they have a lower power handling than the ID Maxes. The ID Maxes are known to not like 1000 watts or so and are said to be about their limit for daily driving.I am asking because I have 2 RL-P 15s and a Orion 25…

Greetings all! I'm back in action after my week long excursion to northeastern Europe and I see that the momentum around here has hardly slowed if at all, which I am happy to take as an indicator of the public satisfaction with the products I have offered to the online car audio community over the last year. To all of you whom have taken the admittedly risky plunge in purchasing from a newcomer to the market, I thank you! Also to those of you who have helped spread the word by telling your friends, or even simply by posting pictures of your system on the 'net, I can't thank you enough. So many of you have played an important role in helping get the SoundSplinter name…

I got this from over at Sound Domain. Ben Milne is getting together a bunch of woofers and testing them. So far SS's RL-P is going to be a part of the lineup. Here's the thread. http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php...43&page=1&pp=10 Honestly, Ben is saying the upper echelon of subwoofers. The driver to fill the space in such a testing environment should be the LMT enabled RL-S. I really hope that the RL-S gets in the testing and not the RL-P. If Ben decides he won't let it fly because it's not out at this very moment he's going to be missing out on testing something that is sure to be well talked about in the future.

i'm thinking of going sealed. it'll be around 2-2.5ft per sub. my question is how much output will i lose? ported only adds 3db, right? will the better sq be worth it? in your opinions? the main reason for the switch is it'll be easier to do than the huge ported and that tc gave me some ideas for a kick@ss fiberglass install
