SoundSplinter

  1. Started by toytundra,

Ok after much time being spent on a stealthy instal I have narrowed it down to the RL-i 10" and the Diamond Audio M6 10" this is the M6 not the M6 markII or the D6. With the install depth, the air space limitations and the so forth these are the only two speakers I am considering. Application, 3 - 10" subs will be running off a Zapco 9.0X the impedence of the subs is not an issue due to the amazing flexibility of this amplifier. Airspace will be roughly .5 cubic feet per sub net sealed. Fiberglass tub and console have already been made so the airspace is what I have and all I have. Currently I already have one M6 which I bought to tied me over so I wouldnt be without b…

  2. hey everyone. I just wanted to know what size hole was cut in your enclosure to house a 15" RL-p. If I'm not mistaken on Sound Splinters web page it states that the diameter is 13.85 to the outsid edge of the surround. So what I did was cut out a hole that measured 13.85 inches. I put my sub in the box and it wouldn't fit. the whole was about 1/2 inch too small or more. ten minutes later with my trusty jig saw the sub was in and clearing properly. what measurement did you guys use to install a 15" RL-p?? they should update their web page with the correct mesurements. (or did I miss something?)

Hey guys, I am looking for some help in determining what sub enclosure would work best for me and my truck. I listen to mainly Metal/Rock and occasionally Rap. I want deep, clear sounding bass that you can feel. I have built many sealed enclosures that have worked great but was thinking of trying out a bandpass type enclosure, something more challenging! I have an 05' Chevy Colorado EXT Cab so space is kinda limited, lost the seats a while ago for my current box! Gonna hook up two RL-P15's to a Sundown SAZ-3000D, to buy in the near future. I figure there is plenty of guys with more experience on how different enclosures react to certain types of music and drivers that ma…

I just realized that I've never posted this over here. I put it one CA.com a while ago, but it would be nice to copy it onto this board, considering the content. So... This being my first sub box, I was a bit unprepared for fiberglass. Skin allergies and fiberglass fibers/resin/sharp points do not mix very well. Also, it

when i switch my +ve and -ve wires on the sub amp there is a "non-quantifiable" difference in the way things sound, but its really hard to determine EXACTLY which sounds better or right? is there a way with a dmm or some other physical piece of equipment to determine when the sub is connected in phase or is it just a matter of listening to it? or traceing everything back to the hu?

Hey guys, glad I found this place. I'm finishing up an install in my Nissan Titan and I've run into a wall. I've got all the comps, amps, HU, changer, everything except for my subs installed. Problem is my mounting depth restrictions. I have already gone through two RF 8"s (didn't like the sound), a cheap Infinity 10" (not enough) and now I have two Infinity 10VQ's sitting in my living room because their 6.5" mounting depth is going to be nearly impossible to squeeze under the rear seat and still manage enough air space. So I was recommended the SS RL-i 10" by a friend. Its mounting depth should work fine, but I wanted to ask you guys if it will suit my needs. I'm…

Hey guy's. Im a newbie here. I am looking at the soundsplinter sub's. My question is which should I get? One rl-s12 or two rl-p12's. I have a 96 chevy tahoe 2 door. I dont use the back for anything, so space is not a problem. Or should I get another kind of sub? I like the soundsplinter's because I have never heard anything negative about them, plus they are cheaper than the other sub's I was looking at. (Re audio 12mt's) I have a kicker sx1250.1 amp. The birth sheet say's 1450x1@1ohm rms. Also ported or sealed? Any help would be great. Thank's alot.

Hey all, thinking about getting in at the last minute before the price hike. Was toying with the idea of another 2 rli8's but I have a sundown 3000 sitting here I got a great deal on and would like to use. Would two rlp18's sealed hang with the 3000 if I am conservative with it? This will be goin in the back of my 07 f150 extended cab. I should be able to go 10 cubes for the pair and still have room for the amp and a battery or two. thoughts? Thanks!

  11. I wanted to get this amp but will it give sufficient head room for the sub. I know that sundown amps are awesome which is why i want one but some people say you need a little more power on the amp than what the sub needs. The sub will be ported to which mike recommends only 800 watts to it (I think). That will give an extra 200 watts in solitude until called upon during spikes in bass lines. Is that enough or do i need more? I want this one because its cheaper than the 1500d. Any suggestions and confirmations will be greatly appreciated.

  13. I know quite a few of you have been houndin' me for pictures of the new drivers - and I've been hesitant as we continue to refine and play around with different options from week to week, but I figure you've waited long enough and deserve an inside look at what these drivers will be lookin' like when they are finally released this coming summer. However, I will be keepin' ya in suspense on the driver's excursion for now, but will get some nice pr0n for ya'll in the next couple weeks Please note that the drivers pictured herein are still slightly different from what the final production versions will look like - but for the most part, this will definitely give you …

I was loading the parameters into WinISD and noticed that there is no SPL parameter. Is it safe to just use the default one provided by WinISD? (I got 87.59 for a 12" RL-p) Also the paramenters on the site do not distinguish between 2 and 4 ohm subs. I don't think that the RE for both is 3.8. I have heard that these subs are very compairable to the Brahma. Compairing the curve on WinISD, inputing the same box size and freq., there is a big difference in performance, possibly due to the parameters I put in. Anyone got a flash light? Hey Mike, since these are a DIY sub, it might be kinda neat to have the drivers for WinISD, LEAP, BBP and other popular programs downloadable …

hi everyone, just signed up here after finally desiding on a sub for my new setup after my last one was stolen. i think im going with the rl-p15 d2. anyhow how come with different coil config.(d2 vs.d4) there is slight differences in the bl and fs? i didt think the coil config. would really change any of that. the fs for the d2 is like 23.xx and fs for the d4 is like 27.xx! the difference in the bl bewteen the 2 is only 1 though. is it that the d2 is a slightly heavier coil? also the qts shows that the d2 would slightly favor a sealed box than the d4 would? im just trying to figure out t/s paremeters and how they interact together. thanks - chris

The thread title asks the question. How accurate are they? Are there manufacturing allowances/tolerances? I have heard that most published T/S specs can be off by as much as +/- 20%, is this so for Soundsplinter? I want to know mainly because I want to make a maximally flat (.707 Q) sealed enclosure for my RL-p15 d2 and no matter how I run the numbers, I end up with ~1.75 cubes (I am excited about being able to use such a small box). I know the website says 3 cubes, but is this a low Q design by intention?

I just wanted to say thank you for putting out such an amazing little product. I just purchased an April 2k5 built SoundSplinter RL-i 8" subwoofer off of eBay after ripping a hole in the surround of my old fart JL 8w6. Needless to say, I'm definitely a SoundSplinter convert now. The quality of the product, the performance of the product, and the value of the product blow away anything I've ever experience in the 8" sub arena. Thank you again for such a wonderful line of products. Chances are, I'll be purchasing a couple revised RL-i 8" subs directly from you once they come out. It's about time to add some much needed quality to my home theater setup.
