I just bought a 12" RL-s and need to begin to think about the box. I'm stuck between going sealed or ported. I think I want to do ported but if sealed is best for this driver, then so be it. If I do go ported, I'm thinking right now trying 3cuft tuned to 28hz and if I go sealed, I'm thinking around 2.5 cuft or so (going by SS recommendations). Is 28hz too low or should I go higher? Another question I can throw in here is for power. Single 3 ohm kinda sucks but can be dealt with. Right now I'm thinking about buying a JBL BPX1100.1 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10482_JBL+BPX1100.1.html) or an older Orion 2500D which I think does somewhere around 1200rms at 3ohms. An…

Hey whats up guys, i'm new to these forums. I've noticed that the soundsplinter website has gone slightly inactive and i was wondering if there is anything going on with the company right now. I've put in an order in for 2 12" dual 2 Rl-p subwoofers and it was said that i would recieve confirmation within 1 buisness day. This is all fine but i've realized that i require dual 4's rather than dual 2's. When i went back to the website, it seemed that i was out of luck that the dual 4 versions of the subwoofers are out of stock . I was hoping i could cancel my order for the dual 2s and get a confirmation on the dual 4s but i have not recieved an email yet for my first order, …

I have an 18" RL-P I just bought....im about to be installing it in ~5 cubes sealed on my 20.1 @ 1 ohm.....i think the sub is rated for 500-1000 RMS on sound splinter's website...do u think it can handle the 20.1 or is that too much power?

Well im pretty much stuck between either the rli-10s or the rlp12s. I was just wondering if the 12s would be too big to put in my ext dime? I want a good mix of SQ and power without having to put in bulletproof glass. I have an amp picked out for the 10s, a pheonix gold x600.1 but I dont know what I would power the 12s with if i decide to go the route. Thanks.

I have a 98 GMC extended cab sierra and Just ordered some new components and will be buying a sub in the next month or 2. I was thinking about the RL-i8 or maybe a 10, I want to go with a sealed box under the rear seat and have a 600w mono amp to run it. Do these subs sound good sealed or should I go a different route? Thanks for any help guys.

So after 2 happy years with my rl-p 12" being powered by an elemental designs 900.1 my amp has chit the bed. I sent it back to elemental designs 2 times to be fixed for free and each time I got it back it worked for a while but the arrived at the same terrible fate. I am not tired of paying 20 dollars to ship it back to be "fixed" again, so I am in the market for a new amp. Here lies the Dilemma, I want to buy a multi channel amp to power a set of components and a set of 6x9s in the back as well as an amp for my rl-p 12 without going bankrupt or running 0 guage wire. The alpine pdx-5 was an appealing choice until i saw that it only pumps out 300 watts to the mono cha…

I was wanting to know how much air space would be ideal for me, as I will be putting my newly aquired SS Rl-p in a ported, down-firing box behind the third row seating in a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. I will be powering it with an Alpine PDX 1000.1 mono amp. I listen to 95% Hip-Hop/Rap music and I am real picky with my bass...... I know this will sound so broad and vague that it is not even worth saying...... but I like HARD HITTING bass, but there is a DEFINITE fine line between hard hitting "Quality" bass that is smooth and blends into the music nicely and at the same time can also come out and shake your head when it is called upon...... And then there is the Hard Hard Hard …

So I got an RL-p 18 off a guy on ROE. Decided to try my hand at building a box myself this time. The box is Approximately 6.2 cubic feet net ported to about 27 hertz. I say approximate because it has curved boards and I didn't bother busting out those formulas... So here's some pics. The funny part is, what I thought is/was the toughest part, the curved flares, came out way better than I had hoped they would let alone thought they would. I did the math, drew out where they should end up, then had a friend help me bend them (2 hands simply wasn't enough) and they ended up spot on. All my other easy cuts? Typically a blade's width off.. made for some interesting clamping …

Hi guys! I am about to build my first box. The sub is a rli-10 DVC. The sealed box will be about 11 x 11 x 13.6. I was going to use MDF 3/4. Inside volume then equals ~ 0.64^3, which is just shy of the recommended size for this sub in a sealed box. (recommended size = 0.65) I was reading on Crutchfield that they recommend a double layer of MDF on the side where you mount the sub. That would really cut into my box volume. It's a tight squeeze as it is and I can't really make the box any bigger. My question is if you think a double layer is needed on such a small box. Also.. I would really like to make the box even smaller. Say like cut the depth of it by another inch. That…

Hi guyz, Received my subs in good shape today. What's in the box??? Very well packed, solid second box - Thankx Mike Stickers came with the subs. Sure those aren't Soundsplinter subs but I'm still willing to use it. Nice logo, thought that it would be bigger. Since it is smaller, I'm even happier. Sorry for the pics, taken with phone Those things are heavy craps... Hope my box doesn't fall apart lol I'm having my cousin build the box for me while I'm flying to Japan. I'm so excited to listen to those little buggers. 650rms @ 4ohm from an Audison LRx3.1k --going--> 2xEpic DVC4 in around 0.8cuft sealed. This will be the first Audiopulse setup in Tahiti - Frenc…

Is 81 square inches of port area enough for an RL-p 18? The box I'm thinking of building is sub up ports back(2, with bent-mdf-flares) in the trunk of a 94 cadillac deville. Net volume is about 6.4ft^3 tuned to just under 27hz. The two ports are 3x13.5 and then flared exit. It will only be seeing about 600-700 watts (Crossfire 1502 bridged)

I have a guy on CA.com thats going to build me a box for my single RL-p 15. I told him from several recommendations, 3.5cubic feet at 32hz. He has a box thats 4 cubic feet tuned at 28hz thats already build and good to go, (ive seen it as well) Which box would you choose? Sub is a Dual 4 wired to 2 ohm, powered by a Kicker ZX750.1. I listen to alot of music, but love old school R&B and rap if im in the mood. As always any feedback is apperciated, thanks.

Hey everyone! As Kent mentioned last weekend, I have a handful of orphan drivers available that are not listed on the website. First up, I scored a lot of around 70 TC2+ based 8" drivers. These manufacture at the same cost as our coveted RL-i8, however they were manufactured for a third-party retailer who returned them because the magnet structure was 0.5" too tall for their given application. As a result, I managed to sweep these up on a discount some time ago, and am offering them here for general sale since I know many people have been wanting a beefy 8" driver, and our RL-i8's are navigating some serious production hurdles on account of our manufacturer recently …

i just got done talking with Mike and he let me in on a few things that he has lying around. limited quanities for sure, so get them while you can. 12" RL-i drivers. dual 4 versions, $180 plus shipping. he has 3 or 4 left Overstock 8" drivers. yes, 8" drivers. similiar to the vaunted RL-i 8, here's the specs, Qts - 0.405 Qes - 0.442 Qms - 4.778 Fs - 34.289 Hz Re - 5.25 Ohm Ls - 12.16mH Lp - 4.053 mH Rp - 25.46 Ohm Vas - 5.031 L Mms - 214.1 g Cms - 100.6 m/N Bl - 23.39 T*m Sensitivity - 78.44 dB ~17mm Xmax The 8's are built on the TC2+ motor, and the only appreciable differences between the RL-i8 and the Overstock 8 are the use of a paper/kevlar composite cone (no logo),…

I have been searching around for a decent sounding 18" sub...and I wanted to compare the RL-s with the Havoc (even though there is no 18" RL-s)...regardless... why does it seem like everyone goes with the RLp instead of the RL-s?? Kinda confused me... is the RLs more SPL oriented?? also if anyone has a good suggestions for a nice sounding LSQ 18" sub that can take about 2k+ please let me know, cause im having a hard time finding one myself...its either that, or 2 12's... I would like something that I can use sealed, but also ported...Hence why I was looking at the Havoc, but it has limited power handling it seems. Thx

I am going to be getting an rl-s 12 ... and i need to get an enclosure for it ... i was previously running a rd alpha 15 and im switching over to the rl-s ... i have an 01 focus hatchback and i was thinking a 4 cubed box upfiring now ... amplifier is the issue ... the single 3 ohm limits the amplifier selection so what are most of the people running to it? thanks guys Mike

I can get an Alpine MRD-M1005 for around $200. It does 1000w RMS x1 @ ohms. Would this be too much power for it? Thanks, Logan

OK, so after many months of procrastinating, I finally got around to building it. Now keep in mind when looking at these pix, it's far from done. This was a quick build to make it to a show. I still have a lot of the "beauty" trim to put up, wires to clean up, and tuning to do to the amps. So with that being said, it's on to the pix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my old setup The new build My door panels with 2 MAW 6.5"s & 2 Fusion Power Plant Tweeters to each door Be genital with the remarks & comments, lol. I know it's not a "true" wall, but I go through so many ideas that I wanted to be able to take it out later, lol.
