SoundSplinter

  1. First off, I'd like to express my most sincere thanks to denim and mrray13 for their support and assistance in getting this forum setup! The SSAudio community has shown itself to be friendly and informative, and I believe, the perfect home for SoundSplinter's online forum. That being said, allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. Name's Mike and I've always been a huge fan of music, both as a happy listener as well as a performer for my own personal enjoyment. I grew up on many years of formal keyboard/piano instruction but have since moved towards teaching myself the guitar as I have fallen in love with its portability and versatility. Having such a close co…

Ok, as you may or may not know, SS has eliminated the dual 2ohm/coil version from their Rl-p line up. However, Mike as allowed us to organize a group buy, where he will special order a run of D2 Rl-p's for those interested. As always, rules apply, and here they are as set out by Mike; So, first things first, we need to guage interest in this group buy (as it is specified that a minimum of 15 orders must be placed), and a decision on the size of driver must be made (as it will only apply to either the 12" or 15", but not both). So, please cast your vote and say if you are definitely in.

  3. As many of you may have heard, we indeed have some exciting news about TC Sounds' Linear Motor technology. After years of development, and months of negociations, SoundSplinter has been granted exclusive rights to be the first distributor of Linear Motor technology enabled drivers! Few prototypes have been made thus far, but those that were have been given exceptionally high acclaim by those who have experienced them. My goal is to work with TC Sounds to continue this saga in appropriate fashion, bringing to market a truly awesome driver, capable of massive excursion, huge output, high power handling, all with incredibly low distortion and a beastliness that will amaze…

  5. Before hand i had a 12 Infinity Perfect running off of a JL Audio 250/1, then upgraded to an RL-P Dual 2 ohm with a Nine.1 as the amp. Box is a subzone prefab 1.03 cu ft sealed box before driver displacement. The sound quality is phenomal, but the output so far is a complete joke. It has no more SPL than my Perfect did, and if i attempt to turn the HU volume or gain up, the sub begins to clip and bottom out. It also moves an incredible amount, and doesn't seem to be putting out output anywhere close to where it should be by the looks of how much it is moving. Are my problems all in my box, or does it sound like i have something else going on? We used a Volt-meter and…

  6. Hello everyone! Finally snapped some shots of our RL-i8 prototype driver. The finished product will carry a small centered logo. This driver will be one of the beefiest "little" eights out there, optimized for tiny enclosures driven with 175-500wrms. As we get closer to the final launch date for this 8 incher, more information will become available.. but for now, without further ado, the new RL-i series 8" driver from SoundSplinter  .. B)

Good mornin' to the good peeps of SSA! It has been a long time coming, with glimmers of hope springing to light only to be dashed by the heavy reality of a struggling economy and a primary producer that declared bankruptcy only a few short months after my largest purchase order to date. I had sincerely hoped that there would have been a revival in the production process, however I can now say with confidence that I will not be receiving my order for the RL-i8's and RL-p18's that I had placed so many moons ago. On the upside, a partial debt resolution is in the works, so I should be able to recoup a portion of the losses stemming from my final purchase order. However, gi…

After a year of negociations and a few months of pedal to the metal design and fabrication - the long awaited Linear Motor Technology from TC Sounds has be- come a production reality! I am very pleased to announce that SoundSplinter is the first public distributor to carry this exciting new technology, and that these drivers are impressive to say the least! Featuring a massive custom-tooled linear voicecoil, these drivers come at you with an RMS rating of 1000 watts, and should comfortably handle 2000 watts in skilled hands. This driver is designed for the most extreme and discerning of audio enthusiasts. If you don't have at least 800 watts to play with, consi…

effendi's post about soundsplinter's bandwagon (which i like to think i'm partially responsible for) got me to thinking... notice anything different about this one compared to others? like, noone claims the soundsplinter sub is the endall to woofers? the rl-p is a great driver, everybody mentions that, but in certain cases i've seen other subs recommended over it (myself included). be it power issues, money issues or whatever... is this a reflection of the owner? i mean, he'll go so far as to say his driver isn't the one a person wants based upon projected application. he'll also sign his subs, which is totally cool, IMO. i guess what i'm getting at is this, most bandw…

ok, ok.. got this bad boy installed in the recommended .17ft^3. with the t/s parameters mike listed, this thing can mechanically handle 1600 wrms before exceeding xmax...thermally, well, that's a test for another day..lol. anyway, i've got it wired for 2 ohm and running off the hifonics nx750d in my wife's car, so it's getting a rated 400wrms. and i'll say this, i think the 400 is just tickling this thing..lol. it, while moving, isn't being stressed at all. it's a cool lil sub. musically, wow! from freak-a-leek to speaker box intro to pour some sugar on me..it just doesn't miss a beat! i do believe the box is a lil on the small side, but then again, it does a great job of…

Hey everyone! As Kent mentioned last weekend, I have a handful of orphan drivers available that are not listed on the website. First up, I scored a lot of around 70 TC2+ based 8" drivers. These manufacture at the same cost as our coveted RL-i8, however they were manufactured for a third-party retailer who returned them because the magnet structure was 0.5" too tall for their given application. As a result, I managed to sweep these up on a discount some time ago, and am offering them here for general sale since I know many people have been wanting a beefy 8" driver, and our RL-i8's are navigating some serious production hurdles on account of our manufacturer recently …

I know quite a few of you have been houndin' me for pictures of the new drivers - and I've been hesitant as we continue to refine and play around with different options from week to week, but I figure you've waited long enough and deserve an inside look at what these drivers will be lookin' like when they are finally released this coming summer. However, I will be keepin' ya in suspense on the driver's excursion for now, but will get some nice pr0n for ya'll in the next couple weeks Please note that the drivers pictured herein are still slightly different from what the final production versions will look like - but for the most part, this will definitely give you …

Follow the rest of the posts in this thread to see how I blew out the existing passive radiators, then I had to rebuild them again. I am driving this beast with two amplifiers now and have made posts regarding the final outstanding results in this thread. http://photobucket.com/albums/b148/mfishmike/ I'm rebuilding my home theater subwoofer for the 3rd time and am anxious for the delivery of the 2-Premium 15" drivers. I'll be installing them in a 1 1/4" walled cabinet with 4-1500 gram 15" passive radiators. I've been using two 12" Titanic MKIII's, but …

i've only had about 2 hours listening and i imagine like almost everything else audio,it will change slightly as it 'breaks in' but my first impressions of it are, 60hz and above-'very subtle'.......... 60hz and below-'demonic authority', 65 mph 1 hour each way ,windows open, wife in the car (so REAL volume was not an option) but the detail in the real low end realms was extrodinary?(these are the frequencies that i have always found impossible to hear in a moveing car as road noise and wind and the like kindof negate any output in this range (20-40hz) from any driver i have ever previously owned, the rl-p must move so much air,or something? it over-rides,over powers the o…

  22. Started by TheTechnician,

Well hello to all the regulars here. I have been reading this forum for a couple of months anonymously and decided to go with dual RLs-15's for my home theatre-stereo DIY sub project. I looked at all the subs and forums I could find. After everything was said and done, they looked like the ones for the job. My requirements were very low distortion, very low frequency extension and awesome output too. I decided to do everything pretty mush as recommended for a change. I have built 2 sealed enclosures that have just at 8.5ft^3 a piece minus about .5 for bracing. I am going to power them each with a bridged Behringer EP2500 with about 2400 watts@4ohms. I am putting th…

140.9 On the termlab. Here's a little bit of background. I got the 8s in and they look awesome. I threw them in a box that is 1.4 cf net, .95 cf after port, 35 hz, and 15 square inches of port. I decided that they won't fit in my car so a friend of mine took them off of my hands. I built the box for his mustang, but it fit in my hatch and he let me borrow them for a week. I got it metered tonight and it did that in the kick with the door cracked. It did a 138.5 sealed up on the dash. We only played with it for like 10 minutes and didnt even move the box around. This box isn't a burp box either. It sounds awesome and plays really low. These 8s have a usable low end exte…

Ok, I have 1 RL-p 12" d4 en route to me right now. I have a 1.4cf sealed enclosure awaiting its arrival. My task now is to select an amp for the beast. I see the rms watts listed for the sub @ 500. Should I be looking for an amp that produces less that that (300-400 rms), or is the 500-600 range rms gonna be ok? I have certain size restrictions, as the amp cant be much over 14" wide. I am open to really any model, I guess I dont have a preference. This is my first dive into 'real' equipment, as in the past, I have only used, what I would call entry level stuff. I have considered phoenix gold, mtx, planet audio, hifonics..but, I dont know what by todays standards…

First off, does such a thing exist? I've been out of car audio for ~15 years and am just now getting interested again thanks to my recently purchased 2002 Toyota 4Runner. The stock stereo is such a flake, particularly with the sunroof and windows open. I've been scouring the internet trying to get up to speed on the current technologies and find out which products would be the best value for a modest SQ system. I originally purchased a set of Polk components but am about to return them after hearing a set of Focals. Although I have plenty of space for something monstrous, this is my daily driver which doubles as a two-child-car-seat chaeuffeur. Keeping the cargo ar…
