Here's a simple install in my 90 325i. I was on a budget since this is pretty much my daily beater car. Sub, amp, wires, and materials all totaled around $150 but still sounds clean and clear. Plays loud enough for my tastes as well. Guessing around 120db. Will use a cheesy Radio Shack meter on the dash to get a rough estimate when I have a spare moment. Main goal was to keep it compact and still sound good. Didn't need earth shattering, just clean and clear. I can still rattle my side views and rear view pretty damn good though if desired. Equipment details. Kenwood KDC-X889 HU. Alpine Type R 3 ways up front. JL Audio 12w4-4 bridged on a POS Sony Xplod (inse…

  2. Hi All, A while back I had come up 2 designs to build for my 12" BTL. Click Here for Topic on Box Designs This next thing is quoted from the topic on the box designing. so this past week we started the build. pics below. so we started by trial and error on the kerfing. failures are below. then we finally got it right. we did .25" spacing for 4 inches, it should be a total of 17 cuts. and we also left about 1/32" of wood left. very thin. so after we got that right we finally started cutting the kerf for the other boards. we then ran into a snag with the paint can. when we opened it up it was broken. so since its easier to paint the pieces when they a…

  3. Did this one last week. It was actually quite a bit easier than I thought it was going to be, hardest part being prep for paint but the radio bolted right in and removing the circuit board from the factory deck allowed the climate control to work like normal without stashing the whole radio someplace. Here's the pics. The victim Here's the circuit board that needs to be removed. Just unplug the ribbon cable at the front, remove two screws and it lifts right off. I made a little ABS box to house the circuit board and cut out a hole for the Molex plugs to peek out, making the installation much easier. Here's the radio all bolted in place. Just getting an id…

Howdy, y'all. I purchased a 2008 Ford Edge last month and had equipment picked out for it before I even bought it. I've done a few builds in the past including a few enclosures for friends and I'll be heading off to college this fall and this will definitely be an ongoing build log, but I hope to have the sub in by the start of school. I've recently been picture happy... Anyway, onwards! The plans: Audio: Head Unit: Pioneer AVH-P2400BT Speakers are staying stock... for now. Amp: Cadence ZRS-7500D @ 2 ohms Sub: SSA Icon 15 Electrical: I'll be needing a second battery or new alternator. I'm thinking an XS D3400 as a secondary. For now, TBD. Other: Light…

So i have now decided to throw up a build log as i am currently going thru a rebuild process. There is going to be a lot of work to this Daily Driver and i do not get much time to mess around with it so it will be a low build. Also since this is going to be my first large scale build i will be taking my time with it anyway. Not to mention i do not have much experience just picking up on what i get from this and other forums. I did mess around with fiberglass a little so i have little knowledge of it also. Everything is going to be double to triple checked another thing that will take time. Anyway here is a few things that were in the truck and a list of things that will b…

I thought it might be fun to chuck this up here. The lada has moved on now, but it was a great learning experience. The idea behind the lada was to learn more about SPL, learn about walls and apply some theoretical knowledge I had. I covered SS 1-2NW, Street Max 1-2 with 1 sub, then a second sub. In the end, I maxed out at 152.6dB which I thought was quite good off 1 batt and a 4000D. Here we go - please note that the text accompanying the pictures is just a straight cut and paste of when i wrote it up on the local forums. --------------- Okay, so I decided to start a little bit early on the SS 1-2 NW box. Early meaning start a week out before hand instead of 3 days This…

The is a good friends truck. He gave me free run to do a what I want in his truck, I am keeping the budget for the entire build to $1500 or so. It already has a Kenwood headunit under the bench seat where it will stay and be operated by remote. The goal will be to leave the interior as is basically. It has a very small battery behind the seat which I may relocate to the bed if he will let me. 55 Chevy 3100 series. 350 2 barrel, automatic, Monte Carlo frame I believe, bagged with 4 switches, frame is notched and the bed floor raised to hide the air tank, compressor and wheel tubs. Its a bad ass fun truck. The goal is simply to get a nice sound in it. Nothing crazy but fair…

  15. I just purchased (4) custom FiCarAudio 18's from Jim, aka ZORA. Thank you very much Jim, I am very excited to see how these perform in the van! So here's what's in the van: Alpine IVA-W505 DVD player. I purchased it with the intent of running an optical out cable for audio and Ai-NET cable to touch-screen interface with the crossover, Alpine PXA-H701. All slopes are set to 30dB/oct going against the advice of CUBDENNO, who said "keep it even at 24dB!" sorry but I just can't make myself do it! (4) Vifa XT25TG30 1" ring radiators doing a steep 66dB/oct slope 14kHz on up (yeah, I know, but thats how it is) off a Kicker SX500.2 parallel 2ohms with its 36dB/oct slope adding i…

Hey guys, just thought i'd see if any of you were interested in checking out my progress walling my spare car. It's a 1995 Hyundai Excel (Accent for CAN/USA) hatch, pretty boring and poorly made car, but it's good enough to keep, cheap enough to sacrifice to be walled. Here's what the car looks like (not actual car) Had it for 5 months as a daily driver, i've had the front stage installed, battery and elec partially done, and a temp sub setup installed. But now it's time to go all out and have some fun with the subs. Sometime this week i'll be recieving two Mach5 IXL.18's, and the plan calls for 12cubes ported @ 30hz for some nice lows. Quick parts list for anyone who's …

This is my 1st hands on build in ~15 yrs, so go easy on me.LOL the intro is a lil long- but wanted to get the story in. I always like readin how and why builds come about. My son/s and I will be tackling a 18" xcon install in my 01 Grand Vitara, referenced to as 'Zuk for short. I bought this lil SUV from a friend with the intentions to drive it for a bit- then hand it over to my oldest when he turns 16 (in about 16 months). I have always had a lil bump in my cars, so it was inevitable that it happen to the Zuk. Alway ran typical box store systems, Alpine, Kicker, Etc. Just started to learn about SSA, Fi, Crescedo, etc about a 6-7 months ago- when I bought my Suburb…

Not exactly sure on all the gear yet. I may just do it in several phases. The factory head unit died so I replaced it and now I'm itching to do more. The goals. More volume. Get some bass while using as few watts as possible and not giving up what little space I have in the back for hauling groceries and parts. The gear that I'm sure of, the rest will get sorted out as I go. Head unit JVC KW-XR810 double din. 4 Kicker Comp 8" Sub amp Kenwood KAC-8152D Right now it has all factory Pioneer speakers for the mids/highs. They sound much better with the new headunit. I may swap in some better stuff and run another amp for the mids/highs but thats later on. I chose the Kicker…

I've been inactive on here, and in my audio, for a while. Picked up something new(to me) and have some plans for this one. I still have the alt and batteries from my tahoe so that will help. I have a dual alt bracket for the singer to sit on so the stock alt can stay pcm controlled and handle the trucks electronics while the singer runs the batteries and amplifiers. 80PRS in the dash, ipad in the console. Hope to squeeze my PPI phantoms in the console again and run the Seas mids again, maybe swap for the ER variety. Unsure on tweeters at the moment. Going to run my xcon15 the same way swift did his single ethos15. I'm going for the same clarity, detail and output I had in…

  23. This might be a semi slow build, I have most of the equipment, but I do need a few other things to complete it all. I traded my truck in on a 2012 VW Passat about 6 months ago and I've had a stock stereo since. This will be my first time building a ported box, fis\rst experience with a processor (360.3) and my first experience with a 15" sub (SSA X-CON). The X-CON is Dual 1 ohm, so it should be good on the DC 5.0K at 2 ohms (2300 watts nominal). I am keeping the stock head unit, but adding a Rockford Fosgate 360.3 to control everything. The door speakers will be RF T1675's for now powered by a Kicker 350.4. Knuconceptz wire, XS batteries, Dakota Digital volt meter, Secon…

So, build logs aren't really my thing. For one, my fabrication skills are easily bested by a monkey on narcotics. Second, I simply don't have the patience to stop and take pictures when I'm in the middle of doing something. But, a couple people have asked so......here it is. My attempt at building kickpanels to house the CS603CF comp set. Thank you to audiolife for lending his ears while playing with the aiming, and GrampaDon for lending a hand at wrapping the kicks. Onward to the pictures I suppose. First pictures are of the basic molds for the kickpanels. My vehicle happens to have an opening in each kickpanel location that vents into the fender area, so I fashion…
