  2. Recently my Orion Amp I had, pushin a Soundqubed HDS3.1-15" rated 1200RMS, crapped out! I'm lookin for replacement that's affordable & CAPABLE of rated 1200RMS needed to really experience my Soundqubed. I paid $125 for my Orion 2500.1D & it was rated 1200RMS @1ohm but I doubt it ever made that. I thought 1200RMS for $125 seemed too good to be true. I know I'm not goin back that route, so I'm curious of opinions on Amps under the $200 mark that I can afford & hopefully won't crap out after 9mons like my Orion & hopefully produce 1200RMS. I have a few options/manufacturers that I'm looking at that I'll list, plz give any opinions you have bout these …

  5. (reference: system is HDS.1 15" Soundqubed 1200RMS w/Orion Cobalt 2500.1D Amp in a 2003 Lincoln TC) Recently I posted bout headlight dimming, weather Big3 or capacitor may solve issue & got many great responses... The best bein bout batteries & the different types, however Im currently livin off expired bread & occasionally sharing dog food w/my neighbors dog that he gets LMAO it's not that bad but suffice it to say I can't afford a new battery that would probably solve the problem, but since I had extra 4ga. OFC from my last 2 installs, I did the big3 upgrade anyway, however didn't notice much difference. Since this upgrade, roughly 2 weeks ago I've e…

Hi Looking for some help with this please - on whether I should expand: I have the following setup: - Sony headunit (not sure what model but it its only 25w x 4 with ~2v preouts - Alpine MRV F300 - Alpine SPX 17PRO component set - Alpine SBR S8 4 subwoofer I have connected the SPX 17 PRO set to two channels of the F300 amplifier. I have bridged the other two channels of the F300 and connected this to the subwoofer (only 150W RMS). I don't play my music at or near the full volume often. Would you recommend adding a monoblock to the system (maybe Alpine M500) to drive the amplifier? I don't often have anyone in the back seat so have not put another set in t…

  7. i have a 2003 LincolTC, my system is a Soundqubed HDS315-D2 1200RMS powered by an Orion cobalt 2500.1D 1ohm stable amp, which is what i have it wired to. Ive only got 4ga 100% OFC, not that cheap oxidizing CCA junk, ran as power & ground which Im sure you'll all say thats too low ga. of wire which i already know & agree on that fact, just my financial circumstances are unable to afford me the luxuries of a larger ga considering I already owned the 4ga wire i used lol & considering the 15'+ of 0/1 or 0/2 ga OFC i would need for the length of my boat of a car i am just going to stick it out w/ what i got for now cuz i wont run that cheap cca crap. so an…

  9. Hey guys, I'm new here but been messing around with audio in my cars on an amateur level for quite a while. I recently decided to do an amp/sub install on my newly acquired 2006 Infiniti M45. It has a factory 14 speaker BOSE system. As far as the audio upgrades I've added is as follows. -Sundown Audio SCV3000d amp -1 Sundown Audio X12 @ 1ohm in ported box to spec -0 gauge wiring ran to trunk to additional audio battery and capacitor -6 gauge wiring from amp to sub -LOC taped into the stock Bose sub inputs Problem is that the sub doesn't sound nearly as loud as it should although the sound it does produce is very clear. I went from 2 SA…

I never thought that choosing a headunit would require so much time and energy. Once I pick one I start having 2nd thought because of reviews or various other reasons. I have owned Kenwood units in the past with pretty good luck. I went to my local Best Buy to check some options out in person. The Kenwood units appealed to me the most. They seemed much more user friendly witha nicer interface. Just my opinion though. I don't need every option available, but these things are important.... Amp output. 1-2 Cameras. Able to play DVDs or youtube for my daughter. 6.95in screen or bigger. Screen tilt/Dimming is helpful. Under $350/Doesn't have to be…

just thinking, why do we still use head units? we are taking digital signals from streaming/flac/wave files on a phone or usb stick and converting that to analog just to convert it back to digital at the dsp... are there any head units out there that just go digital to a dsp rather than the extra conversion step? i was considering a carputer to just do source and dsp all in one via software and a soundcard up front

Ok so I got a new to me truck. It has a stereo in it already which is good. A JL 12w1v2 in a sealed truck box, hertz components, a rockford punch 300.1, and a kenwood excelon x797 I don't like the x797 so I put my kenwood excelon x998 in it. I can't see the display at all on sunny days with this headunit. I want a new single din with 4v+. I don't care about active, or a CD player. If it has a CD ok no big deal. I love all the features of my x998 but its just no doing it for me anymore. I'm more about features. I will not spend more than $250 so that leaves out the 80prs it seems. I have been looking at alpine. kenwood, pioneer. I think I'm liking the al…

i have a client with a 6 battery bank in the bed and dual factory battery locations up front. he has 2 alternators and each alternator is going to its side battery so the driver side alt is going to the driver side battery and passenger alt going to the passenger side battery. i dont know - does having 2 point of voltage input going to two different batteries in an electrical system present any kind of issue? e.g. should these alternators be rewired to both go to a single positive terminal on one battery or is status quoe good enough? we are pushing close to 1200A at full tilt and are considering a 3rd alternator in an after market bracket (current two are in factory loc…

so damping factor as i understand it is the ability to control the sub once it starts playing something, to keep its movement in check. i see numbers all over the board between amp manufactures so I'm lead to believe its kinda like contrast ratios on TV's where there isn't an industry standard to measure by, is that correct? at my work training i have been told that you want at least 500 damping factory to be effective an controlling any speaker over 10" in size but this dosent make sense to me and given its coming from a rep of a company that lists all their amps around 500 damping... well... can anyone lay this out a bit simpler or provide some "trusted" literatur…

i have a 2nd post similar to this but not as on point so ive made this one to nail down some questions and make things more searchable in the future. coworker was setting gains on an amp the other day and what he was doing got me thinking. if you follow mecp and set gain off a 40hz tone wouldn't the power output of that amp change drastically if the box were tuned to say 29hz or 55hz (something 1/2 or more octave above/below the frequency you are generating? or transversely if the box were tuned at 40hz...) the thermal handling of both amp and sub (assuming that's one thing you do such a procedure to keep in check) would change drastically while playing music. so wou…

I'm planning out a build that is using lots of Rockford parts, the 360 is an old dsp right? has anyone got experience with this guy and is it worth buying these days when you have new tech like JL fix, aerospaces, or helix? the aerospace allows for all pass filters i could use to help fix phasing issues, what other DSP's allow for this?

  19. So I inherited this situation but I'm too deep now to give up. From what I understand, there was one `1200 watt audio pipe hooked up in dudes car. He blew that one. Then he put 2 more in and blew both of them immediately I believe. Seems like a short somewhere in his vehicle to me but I'm no expert. So I went through and tested all the transistors and found multiple output mosfetts to be blown on all 3 amps. I pieced enough "good" irf640 mosfetts together to hopefully make a working unit but I have a short someoene because It bounces bavck from protesct to power. Can anyone help me with this?I have more hours in troubleshooting these things than I care to admit. …

Hey guys! Looking for help on picking a new head unit. I've found a few, but want to see what the experts have to say or what else can be found. Will be installed in a 2011 GTI. No steering wheel controls. Base model. Requirements: Internal active crossovers Somehow able to mirror or have a really clean connection with my Android phone to where I can use apps like spotify and google maps on the unit. Don't want to have to touch my phone while driving. Double Din Dial volume knob, preferably one that "clicks" for each volume tick Ability to hook up back up camera Doesn't look too crazy Possible to keep it under $400? I don't care about CD play…

Hello there, my name is Mark. I Would like some input on best options for continuing to improve my electrical system. I am not satisfied with the way things are performing now. Seems like my voltage is very inconsistent and that there is way too much draw at higher volumes. No I have not hooked a volt meter up to see what the voltage has been. However, the dimming of interior and exterior lights have been a good indication something more is needed. Here is a list of what's already completed. Thanks in advance for all input and help. 23. I can't for the life of me figure this one out. The power and grounds are both good according to my DMM. The remote wire is getting power (0.1-0.2v) The remote wire is hooked to the blue and white wire. I've tried 2 amps, 2 fuses, and 2 capacitors. DEX-6900BT Pioneer radio Hifonics ZRX3216.1D Zeus and also tried Skar Audio RP-2000.1D (thought the amp was bad). All the other speakers and such work, so totally at a loss.

The stock radio in my car has an RCA input hidden in the glove box. I would like to continue using the stock radio, but would like to add bluetooth to the radio instead of using an RCA to Aux cable. I had the BT-1A bluetooth receiver from parts express lying around the house, so I hooked it up to see how it would sound. It sounds like there is a lot of interference playing through it. How it is currently hooked up is just a cigarette lighter plugin to the bluetooth receiver and the RCA plugged into the stereo. What do you think is probably causing this issue? At first I thought it could be fixed using a ground loop isolator, but I have not tried this yet. After…
