I have 2 large 100aH AGM batteries in the rear and a factory sized AGM under the hood. A cpl weeks ago I went to start the van and it was dead. I got it started and voltage was terribly low. I only ran it for a few minutes then let it sit, restarted a few times for a few minutes...I dont have a charger. After a couple days everything seemed back to normal. I watch the factory gauge a lot closer and am surprised at how much voltage can change day to day while running, independant of hot days to cold days. Some times it runs around 13.5V other times 14.2V, even in the same day, sometimes 14.2V when its warmer and been driving and sometimes 13.5V when its colder and/or less …

hey everyone, so today i went to harbor freight tools, got a DMM on sale for 3.00 dollars, the name brand was cen-tech, heres the link CEN-TECH MULIMETER so anyways i got home, logged on, looked on the stickies for the Setting gain with DMM tut and i done everything i was suppose to, minimized HU Settings, bass, treble, etc, used a 50 hz tone 0 db, and when i connected the DMM to the speaker output with no load, i had to set the gain almost at 3/4 to get my voltage i have a hifonics bxi 1200 watt amp at 1 ohm load on 2 12" pioneer 308D4 rated at 400 rms per sub HU is kenwood MPC205, 2 volts at sub pre-out 1200 wrms at 1 ohm load so 34.64 Volts is what im striving for on my d…

I kow that I've asked some of these questions before, but a few ideas came to my head this morning since I'm not satisfied with the results. Equipment: 10" AA Arsenal Sealed enclosure Factory Headunit 1 Stinger LOC 1 ZED Minilith Here's the deal. Everything is connected well. I have a good ground, wires, and RCA's. The sub is getting a bit of a warble sound to it a low volumes (I'm sure it is still there when the volume is up,but the music is covering it up). In order for me to get any output in this sucker, the gain has to be almost all the way up and I don't like that. Something is wrong. Here is what I've been thinking... I really think that a four channel LOC would be…

  5. Hey guys, I'm new here but been messing around with audio in my cars on an amateur level for quite a while. I recently decided to do an amp/sub install on my newly acquired 2006 Infiniti M45. It has a factory 14 speaker BOSE system. As far as the audio upgrades I've added is as follows. -Sundown Audio SCV3000d amp -1 Sundown Audio X12 @ 1ohm in ported box to spec -0 gauge wiring ran to trunk to additional audio battery and capacitor -6 gauge wiring from amp to sub -LOC taped into the stock Bose sub inputs Problem is that the sub doesn't sound nearly as loud as it should although the sound it does produce is very clear. I went from 2 SA…

Well, I've been looking for a ho alt for my brother's Caliber and so far, the only company that has said they can/will build one is Excessive Amperage. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience at all with them. Nathan said he would build me a 200a unit that will do approx. 130 at idle. He also said that the alt is controlled by the car's computer and suggested I also purchase an adjustable external regulator from him for another $135. I'm not sure I need the regulator as we don't ever plan on running at higher voltage. Any input is very appreciated.

I recently acquired a 15 inch MTX Terminator, all I need is wiring and an amplifier but I don't know how strong of an amplifier I need because of how old the sub is. Can anyone help me out? I really don't know much about sub/amp combinations. A picture of it http://imgur.com/a/qeulw

I noticed this when I did my first Install and I didn't think much of it at the time because I was assuming my Alternator had a major roll to play with this. I received and installed my 270 HO alternator from DC. I am still getting really bad voltage drop at idle. Well i am driving it's fine i stay at 14.4-14.6... Once i hit a red light it drops down 12.2-12.4ish. If the heat or AC is on at idle i wanna cry The only thing i have running in my car at the moment is my sundown 100.4 and i have 2x XS d3100 installed. 1 in the hood and 1 in the back. I did some research and I read on trailvoy.com that the car PC tells the alternator to shut off at idle....called a dealership…

Hello all, Quick question about wire gauges. I did some research and found Recommended Power and Ground Cable Size so think I should be okay, but wanted to check in with this community first. Currently, I have 1/0 power cable running from the battery to the back of my truck. It hooks into a distro block and from that block I have two 4 gauge wire roughly ~2 feet or less connecting to two amps. One of them is 1000rms mono amp, and the other is a 100.2 amp for my front speakers. If I upgrade the 1000rms amp to 1500rms, will the 4 gauge wire be able to handle the extra power since it is only a very short distance? The ground for the 1000rms amp is also ~2 feet…

I inserted my DD-1 disc into the KDC-X494 in my boat to set levels, and the CD won't eject. I press the eject button but it acts like I'm not pressing anything. Doesn't display eject or make any attempt to when I press it. It just ignores my pushing of the button. I tried pressing the reset button under the face, but no help. Any ideas? Is is a common Kenwood issue? How do I get my disc back!?

I know this is a really stupid question but I want to make sure I'm tuning my amp correctly. On my amp the subsonic goes from 10hz at its lowest and 60hz at its peak. If I turn the dial to it's 12 o clock position is that 30hz or is it 40 Hz due to it starting at 10hz and not zero? Same with LPF. At its lowest it's 35hz and at its peak it's 300hz. At the 12 o clock position is that 150hz or is it 185hz due to it starting at 35hz and not 0?

I've always ran 1/0 power and grounds on my systems.. 2 situations I've ran into.. 1. My dad is ALWAYS telling me I should run 4awg wire, thinks 1/0 is way too much. Almost as if its bad to run a wire that size.. my system isn't huge just a sundown1500 another ~600 rms highs amp with a ho alt...is that just an old school way of thinking? 2. I recently bought a bunch of 1/0 CCA knukonceptz wire and I think I'd rather go with some OFC instead. Friend of mine has recently bought a audiopipe 1500 from me and has no wire. Stock everything..I want to sell him all this CCA wire I have to buy what I really want.. my original thinking is it should work fine (after adapting to 4 GA…

Looking at the KDC-X792, looks like its got all the right features. 3x4v preouts, USB/iPod connection, aux connection, 2nd aux option, PAC wire, attenuator, 24 bit DAC, and the oh-so-handy Attenuator aka "Oh s... a cop" button. I like how it looks, and it sounds like I could integrate it well into my future car, with the USB jack replacing the stock iPod connector, and rewiring the stock 3.5mm AUX input to go to the HU. Anyone have any experience with the Excelon HU, especially the 79x series? SonicElectronix has it for $229. Your thoughts on Kenwood in general? The Alpines don't really float my boat with all the buttons bunched up on the side.

Ok guys i might be opening a can of worms here but i dont understand why people do this to set their gain and think its right. to me, it doesnt make sense and i will explain why. a lot of times i see this chart here and people say set it for xxx voltage and you are set. ignore step 4 since without having a load on the amp is kinda pointless. if that chart is right, then i am putting 1300 watts to my sub, but with a clamp, DMM, and thanks to ohms law, i found out i am putting ~800 to my sub. i am not saying that chart is mathematically wrong, just cant be used the way its intended. so whats the deal? i dont understand why you would use that chart (or any formula equivale…
