    i got 2 amps (soon to be 3) and one of those things with the flashy light... i think they call it a cap.... forget what the does... but anyways. ive always heard that you should ground to the same location but its getting harder to mount all the components close enough that i can reach a common ground location. amps: kenwood excelon (600rms for the sub), kicker 250.2, (adding second 2 channel or 4 channel amp after xmas) Questions? 1) can i ground to different locations? if so how? 2) does the ground wire have to be like 18" long or less? can it be more? if i use a ground distro is there a max length in this application? 3) do you need more info on the install?

    All right, i have a question about grounding. I have an 1 F capacitor, got it for free and just using it untill i have enough to buy all new equipment for my truck. I was wondering if it would be alright if i grounded my amplifier to my capacitor, and then my capacitor to my floor? would there be any problems in that? thanks, scott Edit: This is gonna be for my sub amp

    If I have one battery, is a good or bad idea to run the negative cable from the amp to the battery? Did the chasis have more resistance than, let say, 14ft of 4 gauge cable? I'm asking that because I read that grounding the amplifier at the battery minimize voltage drop, don't know if that is true.

    So last night on my way home from work I was listening to my stereo and all of a sudden the H.U. shuts off and then restarts(Alpine 9884). I installed the H.U. last year in November and never had a problem with it then about a month ago I put in a Sundown SAZ-1000D and a Fi 12" Q. Never had a problem with my H.U. turning off before last night. I dont know if the cold had anything to do with it. It was around 30 out and snowing. Today comming home from school it was listening to it seeing if it would shut off and it never did then comming to work a few hours later it started doing it again. I have yet to do the big 3 and my voltage drops pretty good. Im driving a 97 bla…

    Is there a way to run a h/o alt for just the stereo and its batteries AND keep the stock for truck functions only? Looking at 200 amp alt for the system and it seems no one has any idea if this will work. I can make the bracket and pully, I've got a lathe and CNC here so no problem there, but I would like to solve this issue and how much I have to chit out to make it work. Should I just bolt up a couple of big junkyard GM's and call it a day? Any ideas??

    I haven't done much electrical wise in my new suv and came across so unexpected money. I was wondering should I take the money and by two maybe 3 batteries or buy a quality h/o alt. I'm still running the sundown 2500d. If I buy batteries I plan on running an xs d925 under the hood and an xs d3400 in the back. Thanks guys

    I drive a 2003 Saturn Ion with a stock alternator 105Amps, I dont compete just daily driving and live in Dallas so my trips can be an hour or more(but not everytime I leave the house). Im planning on doing some electrical upgrades to the vehicle and just dont know how to go about it, so my SSA family help me out. I have a Sundown SAZ-200oD (200A), SAX-125.2 (60A) and a four channel in he future probably SAX100.4(90A), so I wanna plan these upgrades around all the three amps(around 350A, give or take a little) and not what I currently have.     I have a 1997 jeep wrangler, the stock alt makes about 90amps and idles at 14v without amps connected. If I put a h/o alt 200amp, at idle what would my voltage be without amps connected? I'm assuming its going to vary from one vehicle to another, but stock alt 90amps = 14v idle, so 200amps = 14.5v? 15v? Is there any way for me to estimate the voltage at idle?

  12. ok so i figured id give em a try and ordered a h/o alt from db electrical. suppose to be 200a at 1200 rpm n 105a at idle, but wats idle to them? im running a sundown sae 1200 v2 at 1 ohm so around 1500w rms. when im driving down the road the most ive seen voltage drop is about .5 volts on very low hard hitting songs. that part is wat i do like. wat i dont like is when i pull up to a stoplight or stop sign voltage sits at 13.1 with nothing on, 12.6-9 with my lights on. if im in park at idle voltage will sit around 13.9 but if i do anything, roll down a window, turn on the air or heat it drops dramatically, windows pull it down to low 13s(thats one window at a time, rolling…

    Hi, Im about to start a build in my 2003 Dodge Dakota, Will be running a Crescendo BC2000D to two 15" SSA ICONS and a Rockford T15004 to a set of Hertz HSK components and probably 2 8" or 10" Crescendo Mids. Have an XS Power D2700 so far just wondering if at this point getting A 250 amp Singer alternator or a second battery ex XP2000 or XP2500 would give me less voltage drop or if its even necessary with that power? All wiring is Knukonceptz Kolosses 1/0 Gauge 1 run - one run +. Also any advice on personal experience with people running Crescendo mids along with a high end component set? Thanks,

    hey guys and girls, I've been looking around for a H/O alternator for my 03 VW Golf GTI. I was speaking to a representative from Kinetik's about power cells that I will be needing to power my soon to be Sundown Audio 3000 amp. The representative told me that the higher than amperage from the alternator, the more power will be drained from the engine. He was also telling me that it is a big enough drain since I drive a 4 cyl car. Soon after I spoke to a representative from Ohio Alternators and he told me that the loss of horsepower would only be be a maximum of 5 from the engine with a 200 amp alternator at full power. I found the h/u for a good price lightly used, not really willing to spend the 500+ I have on past h/u's. a I was trying to find an Alpine PXA-H701 but I can't find one so maybe someone could suggest a comparable eq that could be controlled with the touch screen?     Ok, so i get a call from my friend asking if i could fix his other friends mess up of trying to put in his H/U. I go over hoping he didnt do some of my earlier mistakes, which he did, he cut the factory harness trying to hardwire it...... i gave him 3 options: 1: try to rewire his factory harness which could be a while since its a GM 2: wire the H/U itself skipping the factory harness 3: trace each wire and figure them out, yet again skipping the harness and wiring everything to the back of the H/U We decided 2 would be the easiest solution *98 s10 ext.* and i was wondering if my plan was good and if he was going to lose any basic functions....     i wanted to buy the new kenwood double din head unit ... it has a 5v rca output ... my problem is my rockford amps have an input sensitivity up to 4 volts ... what will happen if i run the 5v rca output to the amps? ... if i tune the amps with the h/u to say 75% of max volume will the voltage output be less (approx 3.75v)?

    I'm in the process if replacing a factory head unit in a guys 2006 Dodge Charger. I wen't to the local dealer to get a wiring harness because it was the only place around that carries the model that I needed. When I asked for it, he told me that the part I needed was $140 however, he would sell me a standard harness that would work for 25, but I would have to run a remote wire to the fuse panel under the hood. He said that the ignition wire would be useless and I would have to do something along the lines of wiring the remote, ignition (red) on the HU, and the remote from the fuse panel all together to get it to work. I decided to consolidate amps, and figured the Cadence F100-5 would be enough for my Image Dynamics CSX65CS components...christ was I wrong!     Just out of curiosity has anyone ever used a harrison labs amplifier and are they capable of doing music? They actually look pretty cool and are tiny for the power they claim. After seeing the drag queen most everybody says all the hlab amps are spl burps only. Just curious not really interested in buying one.
