First off what is already done: 130amp alternator Yellow top optima 55ah Big 3 1.5 digi cap (bought this a while back before I knew very much about car audio) SAZ-1500D JL 13w7 (for sale if anybody wants it) Planning on two SA-12's when the JL sells My question is, I have an XS power D975 (2100amps max, 35ah) on the way, now should I just scrap the cap and just go with the power cell, or should I go ahead and just add the power cell to my setup? I have searched all over the web and every car audio forum I can think of, as well as YouTube, to try and find an info on how to wire a second battery with a capacitor as well. It's all either one or the other, can't seem to find …

What is sensitivity? The sensitivity of a driver is typically defined as the sound pressure level of the loudspeaker given 1 watt of power input, measured at a distance of 1 meter, measured on-axis with the loudspeaker and measured in infinite space with the loudspeaker mounted to an infinite baffle. While the later part is typically assumed but not stated, the former part is the reason you generally see “1w/1m” or “2.83V/1m” stated along with the sensitivity specification. But wait, is 1w/1m equal to 2.83V/1m? The answer is only for an 8ohm impedance driver. We know this because of ohms law, where Power = Voltage^2/Resistance. If the load is anything other than 8ohm the…

  7. In this tutorial write up we will be covering how to create some awesome door panel pods that will add a custom look to your install, allow you to integrate multiple speakers into a door panel, and allow you to control the mounting position of the speakers. Note that while these are in fact door “pods” that are not actually permanently bonded are made as part of the door panel itself, there are many techniques within that could be used if you were in fact planning on creating door “panels” from scratch. Let’s begin! Step 1: Woodwork and Templates: In order to have a good foundation for our door pods we want to make awesome speaker rings. The video above covers m…

  8. It has been debated rather hotly for years, and now it has become pretty much accepted that MP3 and sound quality do not mix. But why is it? Why do some people hear so much loss in their systems and others don’t? Are my old ears really better then someone 30 years my junior? Someone who still has a large amount of their hearing range left, while mine has deteriorated over the years should be able to hear these losses better then I! I started with home tower speakers in the back seat of my old Delta88 back in the days when we had no real systems, and we still had post mounted tape decks and 8-tracks. Then times changed, and we started putting in tape decks with trunk mount…

  10. Figured I'd post some stuff up seeing as how it has been a hot topic as of late. The biggest problem with rewinding a stock alternator is the fact that most winders do nothing more than rewind the stator for additional output. This does nothing but increase upper RPM output and decreases the cut-in RPM. This is the RPM in which the alternator begins charging. This can be controlled with a lower cut-in regulator, but that is just a band-aid. The alternator will still produce nothing more than stock output at a low RPM. When looking for a GOOD unit, make sure to ask the manufacturer how the alternator was built. You want to look for one that has had a rewound rotor a…

copied from the Basic Car audio web site and from FXN A power amplifier takes an input signal, usually a preamp level signal, which has both low current and low voltage characteristics, and produces an output which will have higher current and voltage levels. The power supply available to the audio output IC in a head unit is limited to the battery voltage of the vehicle. This means that the head unit can produce an audio signal with a limited (by the battery voltage) voltage swing, and therefore a limited power output to the speaker. Most amplifiers have a special circuit (switching power supply) to boost the available battery/charging system voltage to a higher voltage…

Amplifier bridging is simply using 2 driven output channels to drive a common load. For 2 channel amplifiers, one left signal and one right signal is used to drive a mono speaker load. Keep in mind that mono and bridging are not necessarily the same. Mono means that there's only one output signal. There could be more than one speaker but each speaker will have the same output. Bridging means that you are using more than one source of power to drive a load (speaker). The sources of power are one each output from either channel of the amplifier. A long time ago, amplifiers had signal on the positive output speaker terminals only. To bridge one of those amplifiers, you'd hav…

(in random order) you will need to know if you need a class a/b. class d ect ect. they are many types of class's like a, b, , c, a/b, d, t, x but the one's you see more in car audio is a/b and d. now there are more and more class t amps comming out because the price to build them are going down. i found this, so im passing it on..... Car Batteries What you need to know about your vehicle's battery. Most of us don't think much about the battery in our vehicle; we simply turn the key and expect the engine to start. We expect the battery to be reliable, long-lasting and maintenance-free. Once it fails, however, odds are you'll have to replace it, and knowing which type and size battery you need is important. Will it be conventional, maintenance-free or recombination? Conventional Batteries A 12-volt automotive battery has six compartments or cells. Each cell has a series of alternating positive and negative plates separated by isolators. All negative plates in th…
