well here it goes, im a programming student and bored as hell because the workload is so light right now. And basically i am making an all in one car audiuo calculator. Sofar i have a calculator that allows someone to punch in cone size, number of subs, and desired tuning frequency and the program will spit back all relevent information such as the length of the port needed for a transmission line box, the port area that will be needed, and an estimation, based on material thickness, a rough estimate of how big cubic foot wise the box will be. and from this i can minimize it back down into a cone area calculator, and a box size calculator. i was just looking for some sugg…

I drive a 200 Honda accord and was wondering if i need to do anything special to put the alt in. of course disconnect the battery + and - and let the car sit for a while. the alt is a 200 amp dom iraggi alt and it looks awesome. cant wait to get it installed tomorrow, props to dom, and i hope it is as great as he explained it to be. any tips or tricks to make the install any easier will be very much appreciated. i am mainly wondering if i will need to change anything computer wise to get voltage to where it is supposed to be, or will the computer detect this and regulate it automatically. thanks again. mike.

Pretty surprising results, I would have bet my money on the Gorilla Glue and it got its ass kicked. http://www.audiojunkies.com/blog/346 I'm going to have to try out the Titebond III on my next box and see if I like it. * Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I figured it would be the most relevant here.

I found this very interesting and decided to post it here to save yall precious clicking time. I probably understood like 65% of the material, but get the basic idea. All of this info is taken from here : http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showth...ht=coustic+xm-6 Mod edit: Thank you to MiniVanMan from DIYMA for putting this together. "There have been a lot of questions of late on the differences between active and passive crossovers. I'm sure with the influx of people on this board there's some confusion over what's what when crossovers are mentioned and how they're employed. So, while this is in no way a comprehensive tutorial on crossovers, it's a beginning. Especial…

So there isn't a topic on isobaric mounting, I figured I might as well create an advanced discussion on it to answer any questions. We might have an idea that isobaric mounting allows us to use smaller enclosures, but why? The important parameters are: Re Le Bl Mms Cms / Kms Rms Sd from these we can characterize a driver/system using Vas, Fs, various Q's and so forth. When we mount two woofers isobarically the Electrical parameters Re, Le, and Bl will change - but it's like wiring a dual coil driver, we dont really change much here. The Mechanical parameters Mms, Cms, Rms, and Vas will change while Fs and Sd will not change. Since Mms and Kms have both doubled, and ther…

A lot of people still have turntables in their homes, or are contemplating buying one - but good information on how to set one up still can be difficult to find in this age of Ipods and shiny silver discs. Maybe you have a battered Technics or Dual that hasn't played records since Gorbachev was in office and your records look like they picked up a case of the plague; maybe you're thinking about purchasing a brand new SL-1200MK2 or Rega P1 to hear for yourself what these vinyl loonies are really yapping about. Regardless, anyone that's planning to add LP capability to their setup could use some hints about setting up and caring for the centerpiece of your analog rig. I'm g…

I have read many places different ways to determine the output of your amplifier as it is in your car, but none have given me the information I need to do this myself. I will be auditioning several amps in the next few weeks, and would like to have real numbers as they pertain to what my subs will really get. Can anyone break it down to where I can mess it up, as far as how to go about this, what equipment I will need, and the approximate cost of the equipment? I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to do this, and this will allow me to give accurate results and power output when I'm testing the amps. Thanks in advance.

As those of you who know me know, I like to do a bit of research before spending any money. In the case of building up my shop supplies, I have diligently compiled a list of tools that will stay the course and provide you with years of service. I thought it might prove beneficial to some of you. Note, I haven

Excursion is a large contributor to high output in any driver on the market. Typically, larger excursion (seen visually as how far the cone moves in and out) means more sonic output. However, with excursion come challenges. As the driver moves outward, the voice coil begins to move out of the gap. This causes a drop in the magnetic force (or BL) and results in a few negative effects, including a large theile/small parameter shift, lower efficiency (magnetic flux decreases), less control over the voice coil (transient response increases, making the driver sound sloppy), and introduces distortion into the output. Knowing these effects, there was a need to design a parameter…

I was asked by Denim to repost this for our SSA family. Original post is here: http://customizeyourvehicle.org/viewtopic.6481.html but anyways, here we go. I'm gonna seperate the sections to make it easier to read. If you have anything to add please do so. I am going to break it down into seperate post just to make things easier to read. What is the advantage of dual voice coils? The primary advantage of the dual voice coil speaker is wiring flexibility. A single dual voice coil driver offers the user three hookup choices...parallel, series and independent. In a parallel hook-up the drivers impedance will be half that of each individual coil (a dual 4 ohm speaker would…

copied from the Basic Car audio web site and from FXN A power amplifier takes an input signal, usually a preamp level signal, which has both low current and low voltage characteristics, and produces an output which will have higher current and voltage levels. The power supply available to the audio output IC in a head unit is limited to the battery voltage of the vehicle. This means that the head unit can produce an audio signal with a limited (by the battery voltage) voltage swing, and therefore a limited power output to the speaker. Most amplifiers have a special circuit (switching power supply) to boost the available battery/charging system voltage to a higher voltage…

Figured I'd post some stuff up seeing as how it has been a hot topic as of late. The biggest problem with rewinding a stock alternator is the fact that most winders do nothing more than rewind the stator for additional output. This does nothing but increase upper RPM output and decreases the cut-in RPM. This is the RPM in which the alternator begins charging. This can be controlled with a lower cut-in regulator, but that is just a band-aid. The alternator will still produce nothing more than stock output at a low RPM. When looking for a GOOD unit, make sure to ask the manufacturer how the alternator was built. You want to look for one that has had a rewound rotor a…
