I am looking for a 2 channel amp in the no more than $300 range. I dont know where to turn. I originally was going to get an A/V receiver, but I dont need the video part of the receiver. The back of the TV will do just fine. Better quality anyways, and I don't need the radio. Anyways. I am going to be powering 2 KEF Q's coaxial 15-100 watt speakers at 6 ohms. And are pre-amps basically to be the equalizer? And also. If I get an amp, do I need a pre-amp? And if I need one, where should I start looking?

At my house, I have these Kenwood floor standing speakers. It has 3 different looking tweaters, and 12"woofer. Then I look in my KEF rear speakers, and it has 1 speaker which has a tweater in the middle of a little 6" woofer. Obviously, the Kenwoods sound a lot better. BUt I am confused. I want to build my own, but why are there 3 different looking tweaters? I know that the frequencies are seperated by a crossover to the different tweaters, but when I search around for tweaters, I dont see tweaters being seperated by the frequency it plays. Help?

I have been reading, but still don't understand. Is there a difference between home subwoofers and car subwoofers? Would i have a problem hooking up a Fi Q to a plate amp? And the speakers. Is it not possible to hook up lets say some JL ZR650-CSi speakers to a receiver. Would this not work?

A little over a year ago a older good audio friend picked up some B&C 12CXB's off eBay. He kept emailing me saying that he really liked these coaxials, and that I'd better jump on a pair before they were gone. I kinda held out for awhile, because folks tend to change their point of view over a period of time with audio gear. He never did, and kept razzing me to get a pair. He finally worked a deal with the seller for a I can't pass it up kind of deal..... We both have listened to the B&C 12CXT, and liked that coaxial, but both prefer the bit more lively sound of the compression tweeter used with the 12CXB. Older ears I suppose. I mounted and experimented with port…

Okay, I think I've decided on going with a 15" Dayton Reference HF subwoofer for my home audio build. My question is: should I build a crossover for this? I'm not very experienced in this, but I'm willing to learn. Should I buy a prebuilt crossover from PE? Or would the crossover on the amp be enough? I'm new to this, so I'd appreciate ALL points of view. Thanks, Ryan Also, This will be used primarily for movies, with a little music here and there. Now, what should I tune this to? SHOULD I port it? And what type of port....slotted or aero?

Im looking for help from the home audio geniuses here because im not sure how to make this work out for me i listen to everything but mainly hip hop. it will seldomly be used for movies. and im building dayton 8s right now. im looking for good musical response and excursion. the room will be about 20x30 any designs or ideas are much appreciated

Built these for to go with the Mach5Audio IXL-18 in the sonotube I just finished: I figured I did 324 passes with the router. Baffles are 2.25" thick, backs are 1.5" thick. Took 5 sheets of MDF with (2) 4" strips left over. yes they are HEAVY!! Each driver is in .5 ft^3 tuned to 38 Hz. These are based on the ART array, but doubled. Tweeter spacing is not great, but we tested before I cut the holes for the tweeters, and they sound awesome. . . They are driven with an old school 380 x 2 RMS Carver amp, and it is like being at a concert in this guy's living room. these along with the 18" sub on 1000 watts is nuts!!! Brian

Old school Japanese Rek-oKut wannabe with a Velvet Touch tonearm, a Japanese clone of a gray tonearm. It uses a Pickering/Stanton 380 cartridge, it's a stereo cart. I've been cocking with the turntable for a day now......it really suprised me how good it sounds connected to a SS integrated amp. It ain't perfect, and has some small issues with hum I need to address. Wish I had tube phono pre-amp. I suppose I better breadboard something up that's simple. I wanna hear it through tube amplifiers, not some weedy assed sounding vintage SS integrated. My LaScalas reject mediocre tier SS vintage amplifiers/receivers. KS Musicmaster Mike

To me, it appears as if the woofers are on a separate circuit than the tweeters. I know they're connected somehow and I've studied the build log pictures of the crossovers, but I dont understand this calsod crossover design. If anybody could help that would be great thanks.

Talk to me about the theory behind them. Designs etc... Would the mach 5 mli's be a good driver to use for a line array project. I'm curious and my room is rather short but lets say I have 6 feet to work with unless I built them for my living room. Which because of the layout would have to be a 2.1 system.

Alright here is the deal. I have a 12" Brahma MKII dual 2 ohm sub. Then I have a set of 15" Acoustic Elegance 15" 1050g Passive Radiators. I am looking to make a sub for home use with good low end extension. As of now I don't know what I am going to use power wise but most likely run my current car amp off a DC power supply while I get money for a Plate. I'm new to PR design so any help would be appreciated. I am trying to keep the enclosure as small as possible. The Brahma Specs are as follows. Fs: 28hz Qms: 5.1 Qes: .47 Qts: .43 Vas 38L Re: 1.4 Ohms per coil Le: .9mH per coil. BL: 15.9 Sd: 436 sq. cm. Xmax 29 mm And the PRs specs are as followed. Fs: 4.9hz Qms: 51…

Okay, as the topic says, I'm tired of my RCA HTIB. I'm done for the most part with my car, and would really like to build a nice 2.1 setup. I don't have the money for a 5.1, and rather than getting a mediocre 5.1 I'd rather have a nice 2.1. First off, I need a receiver. I'd like to keep the receiver around $500. Only needs to be a 5.1 with some preamp outputs. Right now, I'm leaning towards and Onkyo. Any other companies you guys suggest? Second: I want to build my speakers. Bookshelves are not out of the question, but I think I might like to try a 3way floor standing speaker. I'll admit, I am new to the HT building so if any of you have a better suggestion let m…

Finally got around to getting a receiver. Pioneer VSX-816. It's cheap(er) and does everything I'll need....full preamp outputs and good internal power. Now I need some speakers for HT duty. Been eyeing the Dayton 8. The things that have my interest on them are that the Dayton 8 is supposed to have good midbass and LFE, and sound pretty decent aswell.........and ofcourse the price as it would be around $200 total to build. Likewise, going this route would allow me to use already designed plans and speakers from the same model line for the surround and center channels such as the Dayton budget 2-way or Dayton II for the surround channels and the Dayton III for the ce…

Hi all, I know the minimum for car audio but regarding HT setups, I'm a real newbie First of all, I want to understand some concepts: - what is the use of a pre-amp? - what is the use of a AV receiver? Only for 5.1? - is an AV receiver an integrated amplifier for 5.1? (stupid question I know lol) - what "cartridges" do? - are surround soud processors necessary? I'm pretty much set on some components for a 5.1 setup: *Blu-ray Player: PlayStation 3 *Projector: Panasonic AE2000U *Front Floor-standing Speakers: Gallo Reference 3 (pair) *Front integrated amp: PrimaLuna Prologue 2 *Center Speaker: Gallo Reference Center *Side Speaker: Gallo Reference Du

Thinking of making a 2.1 system for my dorm. I am going to use an logitech plate amp so im looking at around 200rms for the sub channel. I was looking at the 8 inch Assassin, but i'm not sure if i should go for a 10 inch. What would be a good SQ sub either 8 inch or 10 inch. My main goal is for it to be a clear sounding sub that can get much lower then the stock logitech setup

dont know where i should place speakers in this situation...i promise i will listen to your ideas Jim and M5 LOL not looking to spend a ton, but i want a decent little system. never really watch movies much, just watch tv at night before going to bed, etc. never really going to play it very loud unless i happen to be watching a movie. anyways, this is where my tv is, and where my bed. how would i place the speakers? notice how the tv isnt on a flat wall, i have a ceiling mount and its mounted in the corner of my room angled towards my bed. the mount comes tomorow so ill get pics after i install it. but i know the L and R front speakers are supposed to be firing at you as…
