Alright, I just ordered a Dayton Reference 15" HF subwoofer for my HT. I am going to use this 90% for movies. I just need some help with an enclosure. If someone could give me a rough size I should build it and a tuning frequency that would be prime. If you're feeling ambitious you can even hook me up with a design. Thanks for anything you contribute!

Okay, I think I've decided on going with a 15" Dayton Reference HF subwoofer for my home audio build. My question is: should I build a crossover for this? I'm not very experienced in this, but I'm willing to learn. Should I buy a prebuilt crossover from PE? Or would the crossover on the amp be enough? I'm new to this, so I'd appreciate ALL points of view. Thanks, Ryan Also, This will be used primarily for movies, with a little music here and there. Now, what should I tune this to? SHOULD I port it? And what type of port....slotted or aero?

Ok currently im using a Fi Q18 in an 8 cubic foot box tuned to 19 hz powered by a dayton 1000watt amp, I used the RE box designer program on their website and i dont think it worked out right because my bass peaks really high, maybe around 60hz. Im looking for help from the home audio geniuses here because im not sure how to make this work out for me i listen to everything but mainly hip hop. it will seldomly be used for movies. and im building dayton 8s right now. im looking for good musical response and excursion. the room will be about 20x30 any designs or ideas are much appreciated

I don't know if there is anything that can be done, but just thought I'd ask. I have two old infinity cabs that are sealed and some random Phillips speakers from a mini Hi-Fi system sitting on top, all power by a Pioneer receiver, nothing special, just gets the job done for my bedroom. I noticed the other day when playing some rap with higher bass (say 50-60hz) that the lows are MUCH louder when I'm standing in the doorway to my room... WTF? Its like my room is an enclosure and the door is the port or something? Any way, is there something that can be done to make it louder inside my room instead of on the way out of my room? Thanks, Mike B.

To me, it appears as if the woofers are on a separate circuit than the tweeters. I know they're connected somehow and I've studied the build log pictures of the crossovers, but I dont understand this calsod crossover design. If anybody could help that would be great thanks.

Talk to me about the theory behind them. Designs etc... Would the mach 5 mli's be a good driver to use for a line array project. I'm curious and my room is rather short but lets say I have 6 feet to work with unless I built them for my living room. Which because of the layout would have to be a 2.1 system.

Okay, as the topic says, I'm tired of my RCA HTIB. I'm done for the most part with my car, and would really like to build a nice 2.1 setup. I don't have the money for a 5.1, and rather than getting a mediocre 5.1 I'd rather have a nice 2.1. First off, I need a receiver. I'd like to keep the receiver around $500. Only needs to be a 5.1 with some preamp outputs. Right now, I'm leaning towards and Onkyo. Any other companies you guys suggest? Second: I want to build my speakers. Bookshelves are not out of the question, but I think I might like to try a 3way floor standing speaker. I'll admit, I am new to the HT building so if any of you have a better suggestion let m…

I got a set of JBL Stage floorstanding speakers for $160 from Best Buy on clearance, normal price was $400 for the pair. They sound pretty good, especially for the price, definitely not as good as my B&Ws, but good none the less. They are going in our basement for now and may be bought off of me by my brother once he starts working for the basis of a decent, cheap stereo.

I was planning on asking for the copper coils with the recone, just waiting to hear back in the Fi section. I was goin to use one of the following plate amps with it, so around 500rms at 4 ohms. Bash 500 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-752 Dayton 500 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-806 At the moment I'm leaning more towards the Dayton, but I wasn't sure if it was worth the price difference. I'm open to any other amp suggestions too. I asked about the box in the Fi section, but maybe someone can let me know if …

Old school Japanese Rek-oKut wannabe with a Velvet Touch tonearm, a Japanese clone of a gray tonearm. It uses a Pickering/Stanton 380 cartridge, it's a stereo cart. I've been cocking with the turntable for a day now......it really suprised me how good it sounds connected to a SS integrated amp. It ain't perfect, and has some small issues with hum I need to address. Wish I had tube phono pre-amp. I suppose I better breadboard something up that's simple. I wanna hear it through tube amplifiers, not some weedy assed sounding vintage SS integrated. My LaScalas reject mediocre tier SS vintage amplifiers/receivers. KS Musicmaster Mike

  20. My father is looking for a very good receiver for his home theater. He wants something that can use an ipod docking station He has an Onkyo TX-SR603 right now but it took a crap on him and blew out all the tweets so he just wants to get another amp instead of having it fixed. I know nothing about HT so I really need your help. This is what he wants: 1. of course a 5.1 or 7.1 it doesn't have to be THX certified. 2. He wants to be able to put an ipod to it (via docking station) 3. 80-100 watts per channel 4. he also has an amp so he wants to be able to connect that amp to the receiver. 5. budget around $350-$600 As far as I know he's just using regular speaker connections (…

Okay this might sound like a dumb question, but I still need an answer. On The Heathkit AA-151 there is a magnetic input for the Phono. My question being that there are the right and left channel RCA inputs and the ground pin (no phono ground tie spot on back of amp). Do I tie that to the chassis ground or common ground? I'm assuming the common because almost everything is isolated from the chassis. Just wanted to check so I don't mess up anything. Here are the schematics if that helps. http://www.wdox.com/pics/aa151l.jpg http://www.wdox.com/pics/aa151r.jpg Thanks

So i've had a decent home theater setup for a while now and i'd like to upgrade my sub first then look into new speakers & a reciever and what not if the sub overpowers them (Backwards I know...) I'd like to go with a 15" SSA Icon but i'm not sure about powering it. I don't really have a strict budget but I don't wanna go crazy buying the most expensive thing out there. I just want something that'll give the sub some good clean power. I know a lot of ppl use plate amps but I'm not 100% sure how they hook up... Like do you just connect the sub as you would to a car amp then run a normal indoor subwoofer cable from the amp to the reciever? Or am i just totally clu…
