I started the thread 2.1 Setup a while back but hit a brick wall beings I really had no clue what I wanted/needed. So I have scratched the idea completely and am starting again from the ground up. Here is a couple options I want to consider 1. A single Full range driver BIB setup like ANeonRider's. I figure my advantages are that things are much more cost effective, less channels of amplification, no crossovers. Its really all in the box and I can build a box. 2.Topgun mentioned a 10" with a horn setup. I really don't know all that involved with it wanted to explore that option more. (Maybe get use of a SD-1 as a midbass driver?) 3. Somewhere in between the two, or …

I'm in the process of building a home theater sub using one of the Mach 5 Audio MJ-18s, I'm going with the recommended 8.8 cubic foot enclosure and was using Win ISD to plot the slot port. I have 2 questions, 1.) What type of vent should I use with this? Should I go with the slot vent or use the conventional round vents? 2.) How much power should I feed this sub? Does anyone have a recommendation for an amplifier for this sub? I don't care if it's conventional or a plate amp. Thanks again everyone.

I have a H/K amp that I picked up off the sidewalk last year, and its been bangin pretty good for awhile, but then it blew a fuse out of no where. Replaced the fuse and it blew again, so something is busted. Its a Harman/Kardon PM645 Vxi, 60Wx2. Looks to be fairly modern, since it has CD inputs, but its got a MM/MC phono input, so it can't be too new. I like this amp because of its simplicity, only knobs on the front, no LCDs or anything, so I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to have it repaired. I read that some H/K amps have problems with the soldering going bad from the heat. I know that this particular amp heats up pretty good. I have a full schematic …

Found a Technics SL-210 in the attic at the folks house, as well as a bunch of old records Going to get a replacement belt from http://www.turntablebasics.com/belts/technics.html Also needs a needle/cartridge. JimJ, where can I get the Shure cartridge that you mentioned? or what are some good budget minded cartridges? Would love to get this thing running again. Will hopefully sound great when I get some BIB's up, built, and running

I've been out of the home audio loop for a while now. A friend of mine would like to spend some of their tax return money on a new home theater setup. I suggested going with a 3.1 setup because of the shape and seating of the room. The area I'm weakest on is the subwoofer. Does anyone have any recommendations for a subwoofer? Preferably someone with experience with the sub they recommend that can be bought or ordered, not "build a box for a Fi 15" " The amp will most likely be the Denon AVR-587.

Hello all, I just thought i would post a few pics of my recently finished infinite baffle project. I picked up 4 IXL 18s from SSA about 6 months ago and just now got around to A) having a house and B) setting everything up. It seemed like i would never get there but now that i have i cant get enough. i had forgotten how great IB sounds. effortless attack and flat to single digits. i couldnt be happier. (well apart from fixing a few rattling ducts ) anyway, thanks to mach5 for making the beastly IXL and to Aaron for allowing me to pick up the drivers and save some shipping money. Also a bunch of thanks to ThomasW for the cult IB site. http://picasaweb.google.com…

I'd like to build a media PC to use as both my source of music and television. Any recommendations on where I can start looking? If it works better with satellite tv or cable I can do either. I have no idea on the functionality of the slingbox, but sort of looking for something similar for in house use only. My needs are: -Channel changing capability -Remote control -DVR -PC monitor only or TV out is fine as I will buy a TV and build a PC specifically for this purpose

I plan on going 5.1 with my PS3 and a Martantz 7001. For speakers I wanted to go with a couple SDX7s and a pair of FR125S for my first 4 speakers and maybe use a peerless HDS for the Center speaker. For the sub portion I think I am going to go with a tempest-X and a 500 watt Bash amp. Do you guys think it is a good idea to use a full range to pick up at 800 hz and up since I hear that is there the SDX sweet zone is in the 50hz-800hz region. I'm not to sure how I should go about blending the SDX7 into my setup. Opionions? Ideas?

OK guys, need osme help. I plan on eventually getting a pretty kick a$$ set up for the house. To help get me started, my dad graciously gave me a Toshiba 5 channel (plus subwoofer, so 6) home system...minus receiver. The receiver crapped out. I'd like to get a receiver for these speakers that will also be fine for when the time comes to get a nice pair of Klipsch or B&W's. This system looks identical to this: Except the center channel is rectangular instead of more square like the satelite speakers. Here the specs for the speakers: Satellite Speaker Center Speaker Passive Subwoofer Type: 2 Way 2 Speaker 2 Way 2 Speaker …

First my goals. As soon as possible I need to test a subwoofer at home, my sub output on my receiver just took a dump but conveniently I have Front L/R outputs so I can still use it as a receiver and then use the offboard proc to control my sub. This will be temporary and then the processor will be used to control my front mains and subwoofer. I would like flexibility for the future as it will be a test bench to play with slopes, points and such previous to building any passives. Also for general trouble shooting and dicking around with drivers. I would like to be able to run a full 3 way mains stereo pair and subwoofers if possible....if I have to lose something it …

What is usually used to mount all the parts? Piece of wood? Plastic? How do you ground the parts also. I was looking at pictures on madisound to get an idea and i understand that a ground has to be grounded to metal but how do i attach the metal to the base? Do i need to build one crossover for each bookshelf speaker?

Here is a recent project I just finished. From what I've heard so far, the only thing I know of that sounds better is a Magnepan system which probably cost about 10 times as much as this did. We'll see once I can give it a major listen. I'm still a novice builder and I'm not really all that concerned with the finish at this point. Its just spray on lacquer that I got at Walmart. Its made of MDF. The internals were dead on what they were supposed to be. Its a pair of Dayton DC160-8 ohm 6.5" speakers and a Hi-Vi Tn28 tweeter being powered by a single channel on a Dayton APA 150. The second tower is yet to be started. The top of the box is warped somehow, although the intern…

Just finished these for my cousin. They are Murphyblaster Usher 2-ways on top and Tang Band 8" on the bottom. http://murphyblaster.com/content.php?f=usher2way.html Cabinets are built similar to my NCMS Rhythms. 2.25" fronts, 1.5" on other sides, internally braced. Drivers flush mounted. The top half of the inside of the cabinet is coated with a mix of 1/2 premix dry wall compound and 1/2 tacky glue. Cabinets are more than "dead". Outside is covered in black ash laminate. The front baffle is spaced 1/8" to allow painting with a good end for the laminate. Also looks cool if you know much about cabinets, because you can tell how thick the fronts are. . . Here is the …

Hey hows everybody doin? well I moved out and next year once im out of residence my parents decided they would give me the 7 year old 56" projection tv plus all the lazy boys in the house. I thought it would be genius to have a decent (awesome sounding first setup) setup. So what i have planned is mostly coming from partsexpress. The towers will be a MTM setup with 2 8" Dayton references (4ohm) and a Vifa D27TG-05 1" silk dome tweeter (8ohm). The crossovers are going to be the dayton 2 ways crossed over at 2kHz. The problems im having since im new to this is what should i set the crossover point to, i dont know how to build one so i have an option of 2 - 4.5kHz in 500Hz i…
