  1. Hey hows everybody doin? well I moved out and next year once im out of residence my parents decided they would give me the 7 year old 56" projection tv plus all the lazy boys in the house. I thought it would be genius to have a decent (awesome sounding first setup) setup. So what i have planned is mostly coming from partsexpress. The towers will be a MTM setup with 2 8" Dayton references (4ohm) and a Vifa D27TG-05 1" silk dome tweeter (8ohm). The crossovers are going to be the dayton 2 ways crossed over at 2kHz. The problems im having since im new to this is what should i set the crossover point to, i dont know how to build one so i have an option of 2 - 4.5kHz in 500Hz i…

ok, so i am confused as to whether or not i need a new receiver to utilize the lossless audio formats available on blu ray discs. i am currently sourcing all my audio bitstream over s/pdif (optical). my receiver has 192 kHz/24-Bit DAC for All Channels as well as 8 ch discrete analog inputs and a pure direct setting. after watching Dark Knight on blu-ray last night i felt as though the surround in the film was a little mushy and my receiver reads out "dolby digital" while it is processing. I'm pretty sure standard dolby digital does not utilize discrete surround and rear channels. this is what i found about dolby true hd from their website regarding s/pdif connections (i …

Hi all, I am new to the "Pro sound" thing but just putting some ideas out. I am in an alternative band in High school and we are starting to get some bigger gigs and we were thinking about some subs. I have made a few sub boxes for my truck so i just started thinking about making some for the band. I was looking and partsexpress.com and saw that Dayton makes a nice looking 18'' driver for a pretty decent price. Any ideas. This is really a low budget kind of thing but I like nice chit if that makes sense. Thanks in advance, Mike B.

I used a parallel notch filter calculator to determine the values for L,C,& R for a trap attenuating 12db between 12k and 14khz. This will be used with the Dayton RS52's I purchased for my Blazer. The values given were: C- 30.03uf L- .75mh R- 2.65ohm I found the cap and inductor on PE's website, but the resistor is confusing me. I'm under the impression the resistor has to be rated for the wattage being used with te speaker, right? If this is so, I'm having a hard time finding a resistor of such little resistance @ 50 watts or better. At this point, I figure I'm near over my head. I figured the home audio guys could help here! TIA, Dan

I'm just beginning to learn about open baffle setups, I am planning to grab a sheet of mdf, cut it down to a pair of 2x4ft panels and trying out a set I have on hand, can anybody throw me some advice on picking speakers for open baffle? What should I be looking for? I've heard these can provide a very natural sound.

  8. I've been getting the itch to do a 5.1 setup with a pair of nice front speakers. I've always wanted to use some Peerless drivers and I've read a lot of good things about their components. Zaph thinks highly of them so I figure I'll give them a shot. I'm looking at the 810921 tweeter, 830872 midrange, and a pair of the 830883 woofers for the 3-way fronts and just using a single tweeter and woofer for each of the surrounds. I'm undecided on what drivers to use on the center, but maybe WTW. 810921 Peerless 1" textile dome HDS tweeter Nomex 830872 - 4" Nomex cone woofer Shielded Exclusive 830883 - 7" woofer I've been wanting to test out Madisounds crossover design service as…

I'm a student at a university with 100% on-campus residence, and this means we always party in dorms. I've done a few installs in cars, but have decided to work indoors this winter. My roommates and I typically host on weekends, and so far, the roomy's Harmon/Kardon computer speakers + sub have done a decent job, but I think it's time to step it up... and give the little things a break from max volume LOL. I'd like to know which way I should start looking: PA or home theater speakers. I originally thought two towers (two full-ranges and a tweeter in each) and a sub would do the job well, but I'm not the expert. I've seen places with a few bookshelf speakers and a coup…

Just wanted to know what all you Home Audio guru's think about Paradigm. My roommate has a pair of mini-monitors that are hooked up to an Onkyo receiver. Personally, I think they sound amazing. Yet again, they are the only real home audio speakers I've heard. Aside from Walmart specials.

Alright here is the deal. I have a 12" Brahma MKII dual 2 ohm sub. Then I have a set of 15" Acoustic Elegance 15" 1050g Passive Radiators. I am looking to make a sub for home use with good low end extension. As of now I don't know what I am going to use power wise but most likely run my current car amp off a DC power supply while I get money for a Plate. I'm new to PR design so any help would be appreciated. I am trying to keep the enclosure as small as possible. The Brahma Specs are as follows. I'd like to build a media PC to use as both my source of music and television. Any recommendations on where I can start looking? If it works better with satellite tv or cable I can do either. I have no idea on the functionality of the slingbox, but sort of looking for something similar for in house use only. My needs are: -Channel changing capability -Remote control -DVR -PC monitor only or TV out is fine as I will buy a TV and build a PC specifically for this purpose

Okay this might sound like a dumb question, but I still need an answer. On The Heathkit AA-151 there is a magnetic input for the Phono. My question being that there are the right and left channel RCA inputs and the ground pin (no phono ground tie spot on back of amp). Do I tie that to the chassis ground or common ground? I'm assuming the common because almost everything is isolated from the chassis. Just wanted to check so I don't mess up anything. Here are the schematics if that helps. http://www.wdox.com/pics/aa151l.jpg http://www.wdox.com/pics/aa151r.jpg Thanks

I plan on going 5.1 with my PS3 and a Martantz 7001. For speakers I wanted to go with a couple SDX7s and a pair of FR125S for my first 4 speakers and maybe use a peerless HDS for the Center speaker. For the sub portion I think I am going to go with a tempest-X and a 500 watt Bash amp. Do you guys think it is a good idea to use a full range to pick up at 800 hz and up since I hear that is there the SDX sweet zone is in the 50hz-800hz region. I'm not to sure how I should go about blending the SDX7 into my setup. Opionions? Ideas?

Does anybody have experience with Dayton plate amps (namely this one)? I'm in the process of building a small, compact subwoofer setup for my dorm room on a budget, too (read: less than $150 for amp, preferably). Any other suggestions for amplification? The sub is the Sundown E12 prototype (dvc 4), so I'll most likely be running at 8 ohms.

My father has one of these and recently got the XM antenna for it. I am wondering if anyone else has a setup like this cause I cannot get his remote to work for the XM portion. I can change the channels by standing at the receiver, but the darn remote wont change the channel. I have googled and searched everything I know of to find an answer, but here I am. I cannot find any information about this issue. The remote is the Pioneer axd7431. If anyone has had an issue like this, please let me know.

I will be using car audio amps in my garage. No more than a 40a draw. Will this type of power supply work for what I will be using it for? I do not want a noisy power supply introducing distortion. Before it is mentioned I do not want to use a regular home audio amp.
