i just purchased my new first home and i wanna build a killer 2 tower plus subwoofer set up. my main question is does any one make similiar diy kits like adire did before it went in the crapper. i loved how you could buy the speakers and x-overs and then have your choice of a ported, sealed, or tl box that they had designed and blueprinted for you. my mother has the old 281's or something named like that and we both love them. so does any other company offer what i'm talking about in a relatively cheap price. i'm more then likely looking for a 3-way set up with a great set of midbass' to keep up with a ported 18.... hopefully some one can answer this for me so i can get t…

Just looking for a decent converter in the under $100 range. If it's rack-mount, it must have rear in/out.

Well i have a Dayton HPSA1000 plate amp that been sitting here for some time now and its time to put it to use. Well my next is looking for a driver or drivers. I have tons of air space so this is not a porblem. Due to most of my money going to a different build im going to have to limit my budget for driver or drivers to 300 shipped. With the lack of budget i been considering a single 18 set up (Mach 5 IXL 18.4, FI SSD, etc). Any suggestions, im not limited to anything as long as it fits my needs? Corey

so im beginning to start the process of adding a sub to my ht setup. so far i have a Arcam alpha 5 plus CD player, amp, and tuner..first problem i have is hooking the tv up to the reciever. ive tried going from TV out to Video on the reciever. ive tried from the VCR ( cable runs through the VCR) and tried through the DVD player...idk why but everytime i connect to the reciever the speakers start making a quiet buzzing sound. not noticeable during music but when between tracks its clearly heard and its annoying. how do i make it stop? and where would i connect an amp for a sub?

This has been in the works for some time. I know that Chad and his crew are extremely excited about this new move. This will definetly shake things up in the Home Audio realm.More for less is a real understatment. Take some time and read through all the website has to offer. I'm sure you'll be impressed. Would love to hear thoughts about Chad's new company. http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/

I figured it would be fun to make a little HT Setup for the dorm room. I have a MAW-10 to use (can run at 8 or 2 ohms) and thought about getting some MLI-65 and a tweeter to match for up front. Not looking for anything spectacular just something really to play with. I'm more concerned about with amplifiers and reciever to use as I don't know much about them. Also I guess I would prefer to run active as I don't want to make my own crossover and would like experience with active anyways.

  12. From what I can tell, this guy has the DartZeel Pre and power amps ($20,000 each), Pass Labs X1 or x0.5 preamp (about $15,000), 4 of the compression drivers on the sub-horn (I've seen similsr drivers at $8-10,000 each), Some crazy ass tube amps for the upper midrange (If I had to guess..... $40,000 each), a Zanden CD transport and DAC (that's another $40,000), and more crazy ass tube amps for the lower midrange (let's say $20,000), a PS Audio conditioner ($5,000 or so), it looks like an SME 30/10 turntable ($40,000 with a no doubt expensive cartridge), and maybe another $10,000+ in wires. That's close to $300,000 in stuff. Then have the horns custom molded for his yard, a…

I've got a pair of RS225-4's sitting in the shop, begging for a project. I was originally going to put them in the door panels of the truck, but have decided on a different route for that ride, and something totally different for the Tahoe, so I'm stuck with extra parts, and IMO nice ones at that! My budget would love to stay under $50 per tweet. I'll then move on to pestering for crossover info! Large format is perfectly acceptable, and actually preferred. I haven't decided on what type of enclosure this will be, but more than likely, it'll turn out to be ported.

Does anybody have experience with Dayton plate amps (namely this one)? I'm in the process of building a small, compact subwoofer setup for my dorm room on a budget, too (read: less than $150 for amp, preferably). Any other suggestions for amplification? The sub is the Sundown E12 prototype (dvc 4), so I'll most likely be running at 8 ohms.

So I am tired of my crappy computer speakers and i want to build an MT set myself, passive crossovers and all if I can figure out how, the soldering doesn't scare me cause I've built a headphone amp before. I want some decent cheaper components that I could use in my room maybe on my desk. I was looking at a tweet and woofer that I could use in a cabinet and then maybe in a year or two when I need to move into a new place (and need bigger home speakers) I could throw the speakers from the MT setup into my car and run active. I was looking at the mids and tweet on this page http://www.timbre-audio.com/SeasStandard.html I like those prices hahah and I know more of the cost…

Well, ive been crusing around her for a while and i think i discovered a enclosure id LOVE to build. Im debating on building a TL enclosure for either one 10" or a single 8". to top it off i kinda want to do it as cheap as i can(i know i know, audio, cheap, HAH.). I think i found my amp and sub, but i need the opinions of seasoned builders. Ive only played with car audio before so this home theater stuff is newer to me, i have a sub-par setup going, but nothing fancy. But my substage is lacking, so i need something with a little more "oomph". Amp choice is a Audiofile VRS 1205 from www.alexjr.com (http://www.apexjr.com/Audiofile.htm) and the sub i have yet to really decid…

Has anyone used non-stick backed real wood veneer? Im about to attempt using it for the first time, just wondering if you have any tips about working with it that would be helpful going in. Better to use a 1/4" flush-cut or a 1/2" etc? Brand of glue? also..when doing the rounded edges..should i glue the veneer to the face, let it dry. then, wrap the veneer around the edges..or should i just glue and wrap the the whole thing right away..the pic shows a 3/4" round on a previous pair to give you an idea, the one's im attempting have a 1" roundover.

  21. I've been getting the itch to do a 5.1 setup with a pair of nice front speakers. I've always wanted to use some Peerless drivers and I've read a lot of good things about their components. Zaph thinks highly of them so I figure I'll give them a shot. I'm looking at the 810921 tweeter, 830872 midrange, and a pair of the 830883 woofers for the 3-way fronts and just using a single tweeter and woofer for each of the surrounds. I'm undecided on what drivers to use on the center, but maybe WTW. 810921 Peerless 1" textile dome HDS tweeter Nomex 830872 - 4" Nomex cone woofer Shielded Exclusive 830883 - 7" woofer I've been wanting to test out Madisounds crossover design service as…

  22. First of all, sorry for the sucky photography, I realized I really need to clean the lens of my camera. I went to a friend's house yesterday because he had some Klipsch La Scalas dropped off, they're in transit to someone in TN but they made a stop here first. I hadn't heard La Scalas before, so I was curious to hear how they'd sound. Here they are: And a pair of Cornwalls to compare them to: Group shot. Behind the Klipsches are a stacked Advent pair, refoamed Acoustic Research towers, original Infinity RS1.5 bookshelves, and who knows what else. First we listened to an Audiosource Tripath amp, the black amp on top with the meters. Frankly, it sucked on the La Scalas, …

Speakers: Magnepan MGIIB Amplification: QSC CX 902 for the sub, QSC Powerlight 1.0HV for the Maggies, and an ART SLA-1 just there... Preamp: Behringer T1953 w/ upgraded tubes Crossover/EQ: Behringer DCX 2496 DVD/CD/SACD player: Oppo 981-HD TV: Currently cheapo 27" CRT, will have a ~37" LCD HDTV before the end of the month In the mail are two Mach 5 Audio MAW 15's for the substage, haven't entirely decided on the configuration that they will be in yet.
