I have a small home studio which I use to produce music and also DJ. Obviously SQ is really my only concern. My studio's audio setup consists of the following components (in the spoler): Anyways, back on topic... I've been reading more in depth on other types of sub enclosures/designs such as IB. My priority in design is SQ. SPL is not much of a concern. An IB setup almost seems like the perfect studio subwoofer design on paper. Assuming it's correctly done, near flat frequency response, extremely low distortion, great transient response.... At least that's what I gathered from reading, but with the difficulty involved in properly designing a true IB setup, it might …

As some may know i'm using a Seas CA18rnx and a cheapo tweeter as the mains. I've bought a pair of Peerles HDS tweeters and now it's time to design something better that what i have now. 1st problem are the enclosures. The sealed ones are lacking a bit of mid-bass and by the looks of Zaph's waveguide TMM graphs ported seems to open up the low-end. side view : http://www.zaphaudio.com/WaveguideTMM-2-3.pdf I thought about using the top part of the enclosure in the plans since i only have a pair of mids. Anything wrong with that ? 2nd problem : the crossover part. Should i start with first order slopes and try out some diffrent inductor and capacitor values (ie for 2khz, 2…

Okay, as the topic says, I'm tired of my RCA HTIB. I'm done for the most part with my car, and would really like to build a nice 2.1 setup. I don't have the money for a 5.1, and rather than getting a mediocre 5.1 I'd rather have a nice 2.1. First off, I need a receiver. I'd like to keep the receiver around $500. Only needs to be a 5.1 with some preamp outputs. Right now, I'm leaning towards and Onkyo. Any other companies you guys suggest? Second: I want to build my speakers. Bookshelves are not out of the question, but I think I might like to try a 3way floor standing speaker. I'll admit, I am new to the HT building so if any of you have a better suggestion let m…

I'm looking to build clean boxes of mids/highs and a woofer in a waist high tower. I was going to throw matching pairs of infinity 6.5s, 5.25s, and 10" unknowns in 2 towers and an RE XXX v3 in a woofer tower. Before I start building, what do I need as far as crossovers go to connect my mids highs to a 4/8 ohm load. looking to run a 400 watt receiver and a separate amp for the woofer. ANy good equip I can look for? Any recommendations for build or getting started? type of wood that looks really clean?

Has anyone had any experience building transmission line enclosures for a 12" SSD. Saw a post on another forum where this person used a Fi SE, 12", to build one and everything I read about these cabinets talks about how accurate and loud they can be. Only downside is they are HUGE and heavy, but in comparison to regular sealed and ported enclosures they are superior, best match for any driver, superior SQ, and the most output. Also, this one was tuned to 25hz and would reputedly play notes an octave below that no problem. Sounds like it may be a good design for a combination music/HT enclosure. Any thoughts about these claims and or experience would be appreciated. satwil…

Hey guys. I have been a Car Audio nut for a while now but it has come time to build a sub for home use, theater not really music. I don't have a ton of room, maybe 6-8 ft^3 or a little more if I push hard for it. Looking to build an enclosure that'll really bring out the low end <20Hz and have an upper cutoff around 60-70 Hz. Been looking at drivers for a while and I think I have decided on a 15" as the optimum size for the room. No windows, 1 door, carpet, etc around 13'x22' so fairly good in room gain. Now I need a driver. Here is what I had in mind, but I will be getting the amp once I've picked a driver(s): SI Mag 15 CSS SDX15 SS RL-p 15 Dayton TIT400C-4 15…

Ok, Amanda has been asking me about a nice little stereo in our bedroom. I have an old pioneer system, but that will be used for other needs. So I want to build a nice little book shelf type system. I am starting with the Mach5 MLI-65's for mids and a MAW-12 for bass, now I want to use a crossover and tweeters that will blend with them well. This is on a slim budget!!! Going to be either from Madisound or PE. I would naturally lean towards a soft dome tweet in this case. Might go with a ported set up for the MLI's. So I want to lean on you guys to give me some good ideas that would blend well with the Mach5s, check the Zaph test for the good results from them. So …

i scraped the spherical speaker idea and that means i need a large format tweeter what i have now is a pair of ca18rnx's and a pair of cheap-arse tweeters. i'm looking to upgrade the tweeters and i need some advice since i don't know what to choose. budget : $100 for the pair. i'm just looking for something laid back and not harsh. EDIT : budget is $150 and the IB question. we just finished building a garage and it's adjacent (sp?) to one of the walls in my room. that means i could attempt an IB subwoofer. only trouble is the garage isn't insulated and there is quite a temperature diffrence during winter : -5*C in the garage and about 20*C in the room. would this diffre…

Finances are here. Time to start ordering. PICS and VIDS to come! What is for sure: 2 Fi Audio IB3 18's, each in their own 128 cubic foot box (before displacement) with a 12" sonotube port 48" long ( to begin with, will cut down raising tuning over time) resulting in a 6.5Hz tune! Dual EP2500's or EP4000's. I am building from the floor up... scratch. I need a solid 7.1 receiver capable of more than 110 watts per channel. I plan on building MT's or MMT's designed by Kevin with Exodus Anarchy's. IDK about using a HP filter yet.. but I may go as high as 15Hz with the tune...I'll start low and have myself some fun and learn all the way up to 15Hz. I'd like some input on the…

I built this amp from scratch about 5 years ago. I also designed everything but the output stage... I weighs almost 100 lbs. It is a pretty sweet amp, it still runs like a champ day in and day out.... Class AB, 100wpc into 8 ohms, 200wpc into 4 ohms and 400wpc into 2 ohms..... So, I went ahead and cleaned up some of the crap I did about about a year ago converting my amp for 230V and adding grounding options... I added a 5 position barrier strip with selectable jumpers on the input side for setting up the primaries of the power transformers for either 115V or 230V.... I also extended the primary wires about 10" to reach the barrier strip. Next I added small toggles to…

Okay, well, with my new house I want to rip out all the existing old coax and install new throughout. Question is, what is the best cable to go with for quality? I will be updating to HD in a year or two, so I want the best I can get.

Well I am looking to get some good Vinyl Cleaner. I am listening to Pink Floyd-Meddle and damn does this record need some cleaning. I have just been using a microfiber cloth to get the dust off but doesn't always work the best. Any suggestion for a product in the reasonable price range or technique? I've seen people clean vinyls using wood glue bat that is far too time consuming and uses lots of glue. Thanks for any help here

The tempurature outside is going to be perfect for grilling in the next month or so and I decided I was tired of having to turn up the indoor setup so loud the people inside the house had to shout over it so I could listen to music. So I bought a pair of Dayton indoor/outdoor speakers today and a ton of wire (500ft). I had intentions of using the "B" channel of the "A/B" selector on my HT receiver as a channel to run the outside speakers. I found lots of information, but very little specifics on the subject. My questions. 1) Can I use the "B" speaker selector on the Yamaha RXV2400 to power these in addition to its regular duties? 2) Volume control, is it as simple as pu…

i have this 5.1 system. i got it for cheap, and they included a 5 yr warranty at no cost. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DAVHDX589W the bass from the stock sub/box is pretty decent, according to specs its a 6 3/4 (i think it was 3/4") sub, 1.5 ohm and the amp feeds 280w rms to it. id like to build a new box for either this sub, or get 1-2 new subs (6.5s or 8s) that i can wire to ~1.5, rather not go any lower becuase thats what the stock sub is at now. if i do 2 subs thats 140w rms each. ideas? maybe a t-line? idk anything about HT, but i want something that gets alot louder with the power im working with, and something that gets pretty low too. bu…

Okay, I have a question. I really don't know how to word this, but I think you guys will understand. Okay, so I saw the thread a couple weeks ago (I think it was JimJ) and he was talking about these really big speakers his friend ordered. There are pictures of it in a garage. He then said it gets painfullly loud with only 7watts....That's whats confusing me. There is something I'm obviously missing here. How does it get so loud with only 7watts? Thanks

I got this a god 8-9 years ago from some guy for dirt cheap. we can just say it was in my worse days and he used to bring me all types of weird stuff.. I was told this was valuable at one time but I could never find it on the internet or even make it sound good.. although i could have been doing something wrong.. Basically what im asking you guys is to tell me what his is if you know.. dont sugar coat it.. if its junk then tell me, been sitting in the closet for ALONG time. here is some pics... I have atleast 4 of the smaller speakers and 1 of the centers. I might have even more than the 4, i dont want to dig them all up just yet lol.

First of all, sorry for the sucky photography, I realized I really need to clean the lens of my camera. I went to a friend's house yesterday because he had some Klipsch La Scalas dropped off, they're in transit to someone in TN but they made a stop here first. I hadn't heard La Scalas before, so I was curious to hear how they'd sound. Here they are: And a pair of Cornwalls to compare them to: Group shot. Behind the Klipsches are a stacked Advent pair, refoamed Acoustic Research towers, original Infinity RS1.5 bookshelves, and who knows what else. First we listened to an Audiosource Tripath amp, the black amp on top with the meters. Frankly, it sucked on the La Scalas, …
