already picked up the mids a while back and now i'm finally getting around to putting this all together. my question is, which brand or type of components should i order to build the crossovers. here is the parts list. however, following the recommendation when used as desktop/near field R2 = 4ohm. here is the list i put together, just want to make sure im not spending too much, or not enough.. i have to place an order for speakers (bro's build), so shipping will be free from parts express. (could place the order through another site) 30 ohm 4ohm .4 mh board 4.3 uf cap .8 mh =30 bones

I currently have an 8" ORB Audio sub in my home theater. My living room is about 20' X 12' and opens up to the kitchen that is about a 1/3 of the size of the living room. I currently have 2 10" AA arsenals that are sitting in my garage. I want a bigger sub stage. Something that will extend into the 20hz range. Can I use these subs for Home use? Or should I sell the pair and buy something geared toward my home theater. I really like the idea of an IB system, but I'm open to a box system in the living room. FYI, I have some building skills, so I can build an enclosure for any box design. I'm just a virgin when it comes to the home theater side of things. All suggestions ar…

i'm looking for a pretty sturdy 2 channel amp for my home theater system and came across this and was wondering what you thought about it? i don't know much of anything when it comes to home stereo amplifiers. i want something that is going to push around 200-300rms at 8ohms if you have any suggestions i would definitely be open to them. this is one that i found and it seems to have everything i need, but i don't know the brand and how good this would actually be. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adcom-GFA-555se-Stereo-Amplifier-/130717532260?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item1e6f5f4064

I know this is probably not under "Home Audio", but I'm taking my chances. Looking at TV's, I need an outside opinion. I can get a Samsung 61 inch or so, 1080p DLP TV for around $1500. What's the catch. I googled around for the Pro's and Con's of DLP TV's, but nothing gave me anything to hold on to. For instance one "Con" I saw was, "TV not small enough to hang on wall". <-- That means nothing to me. Anyways. I know nothing is too good to be true. I need some input. Thanks

Hello, One of my friend is building a small studio for a customer. He already has eveything for recording sessions, but he needs a complete setup to listen to the final results. He's thinking of an amp (like the Behringer EP2000 or EPX, I don't know) and a 3 way system : 2 subs(10 or 12"), 2 mids and 2 tweeters. He will build the boxes. The system he will use for recording is too "neutral" for listening sessions. So he's looking for something simple and not too expensive. I want to order from parts-express or madisound.com ONLY. Can you help me choose something complete please ? There are so much speakers to choose ! He mostly listen to reggae music, some rap and maybe z…

  6. I have (2) 12" Intelligent Audio Systems (TC SOUNDS PROTOTYPES) 3" Copper Coils Single 3ohm 1000w RMS Designed for 1 cubic feet sealed enclosures. w/ poly fill added All I have is a basic 5 channel samsung home theater system that came as a package deal with my bluray player, so i'm obviously looking to upgrade. For starters I'm only looking for some power to push this substage. I looked into Crown XLS/XTI amplifiers around 2,000w RMS because that's all I know.... what brands and models should I consider, nothing top of the line but reasonably priced! Will I have to buy a receiver to hook the amplifier up to it. Not really sure how this works so any suggestions are apprec…

so i was bored today and went to guitar center to play with some eq's and some of the rack amps and tower speakers i could never afford. well i remembered i want to look at the behringer ep2500 to power what i want for subs in my ht. i talked with a pretty cool actually knowledgable guy. asked about the amp. said he didn't have any in stock and went and look at em online. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-Euro...544-i1145402.gc , so we talked alittle bit and he pulled them up on the computer to see if any other stores stocked them locally, there wasn't but he found this. if i was willing to wait a week behringer would mail one to the store for $199, $150 off no questi…

So I am tired of my crappy computer speakers and i want to build an MT set myself, passive crossovers and all if I can figure out how, the soldering doesn't scare me cause I've built a headphone amp before. I want some decent cheaper components that I could use in my room maybe on my desk. I was looking at a tweet and woofer that I could use in a cabinet and then maybe in a year or two when I need to move into a new place (and need bigger home speakers) I could throw the speakers from the MT setup into my car and run active. I was looking at the mids and tweet on this page http://www.timbre-audio.com/SeasStandard.html I like those prices hahah and I know more of the cost…

  11. I'm buying this pre amp for my microphone: ART Pro Channel Microphone Preamp and Compressor It has an XLR input for the mic, and XLR output, and an 1/4 input and output. My question is, what would be the best way to go from the pre amp into my sound card to record ? I have your typical line input on the sound card, 1/8 size. 1/4 to 1/8, or XLR to 1/8 ?

I am looking to get a rack mount amp to use in my room to power 2 AQ 15's. I am looking at the Behringer ep2500 and the GTD Audio GD-750. I can get both for the same price. I know that the Behringer is more widely used and known for a good 2400 RMS but the GTD is 2 x 2250 @ 2 ohms, so it is almost double power and the same price. I want to know if anyone has experience with the GTD or if anyone has heard anything about the GTD amp. Depending on how the GTD performs will help me decide what amp to use.

  13. Im on a limited budget and limited on space. I'm looking for a decent HT set up to match with my plasma TV. I dont need anything extravagant, but I would like to have something that sounds good. Ive been on crutchfield, newegg, partstexpress and bestbuy and cant seem to find anything that is worth even the high prices they want for them. What Im looking for... 5.1 surround system with receiver to power them. (already have a bluray player so I dont need a combo) small package I am working on limited space so the system needs to fit on a shelf or be hung from the walls. I do have neighbors in the appartment next and above me so I have no need for something that can blast ou…

  14. I was wondering if anyone had some objective data or even and explanation as to why a high end processor would sound better then a low end processor/receiver. I understand that subjective listening plays a role in what people prefer and that some audiophiles look at audio more as a hobby but is there a hardware reason that impacts sound quality? I am not talking about double blind tests and the side that states everything sounds the same but as of yet I have not found any objective data that would justify this night and day difference. I have searched the internet for sometime and found a profile on photobucket that has quite a selection of photo's, yes some people will k…

I'm looking for a subwoofer and speakers to use in a 2.1 bedroom home theater/listening set up. I have in mind Using a 150-300w (Was looking at the bash 300w plate amp but not sure about if I like the auto on/off) plate or regular amp (up for debate). Info: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-750 As far as subwoofer goes, I had in mind using a 10" in a T-line specifically the soundqubed SDC 2.0. mainly because I think they look awesome, there cheap, and wouldn't mind throwing it in my car one day. Im looking for a flat responce and something that sounds good. Also up for debate. Info on amp: (10" isn't showing but here's the 8")http://www.sound…

made a thread a while back on this, i never got around to taking pics after i hung the tv. i gotta get back up the attic and shim up the left side of the tv, becuase the trusses arent perfectly level in the attic. either way, its really the only way i could have mounted it, and its a nice viewing position from my bed. had i used a normal wall mount and put it on the wall, it wouldnt be angled towards my bed any. anyways, heres the pics. the tv speakers are removable, and will be removed, once i get a 2.1 setup to replace it with. had to put it on SSA before the pic haha this is laying in my bed questions- should i buy a simple 2.1 setup, or should i make a DIY setup fro…

I was looking at the MAW-12 for home theater use...the MAW-12 looks like it can be used in a rather small enclosure (1.8 ft3 tuned to 28 HZ) It looks like a good value with reasonable low extension in a small vented enclosure. ANyone using this sub ? Especially in a similar enclosure? Any recommendations on any of the MACH5 line for home theater or another driver ? Criteria for the sub are 1) small - 2ft3 or less 2) decent (87 db + sensitivity) 3) decent low frequency extension (35 Hz or below F3) Has anyone used one of the MAW drivers with a passive radiator ? The MAW-12 could definitely be used with a passive radiator setup...

I am not tooo interesting in using a home theater receiver and all of that. I moreso like the concept of putting a car system in home. Not for the outstanding theater surround sound just for the deep loud bass and all that. I was wondering what places like Best Buy and other places use to run their display system. I am looking moreso for like a brand and model. I am assuming they use power supplies but the only ones i have found are small ones for computers. And if possible I would like to avoid getting a battery charger and battery(s). I intend on at least 1 rf power 1000 5 channel amp. Maybe a large four channel and a 1000-1500 rms sub amp. Im looking for total sy…

At my house, I have these Kenwood floor standing speakers. It has 3 different looking tweaters, and 12"woofer. Then I look in my KEF rear speakers, and it has 1 speaker which has a tweater in the middle of a little 6" woofer. Obviously, the Kenwoods sound a lot better. BUt I am confused. I want to build my own, but why are there 3 different looking tweaters? I know that the frequencies are seperated by a crossover to the different tweaters, but when I search around for tweaters, I dont see tweaters being seperated by the frequency it plays. Help?

  24. I've been getting the itch to do a 5.1 setup with a pair of nice front speakers. I've always wanted to use some Peerless drivers and I've read a lot of good things about their components. Zaph thinks highly of them so I figure I'll give them a shot. I'm looking at the 810921 tweeter, 830872 midrange, and a pair of the 830883 woofers for the 3-way fronts and just using a single tweeter and woofer for each of the surrounds. I'm undecided on what drivers to use on the center, but maybe WTW. 810921 Peerless 1" textile dome HDS tweeter Nomex 830872 - 4" Nomex cone woofer Shielded Exclusive 830883 - 7" woofer I've been wanting to test out Madisounds crossover design service as…

Well at work some lady brought in an old Zenith Solid State turntable. I wasn't sure about the model number. All I found was this number(Z565W-157309) and a google search got me nothing. It works and everything but the lady said it sound "horrid". My first guess was that the electrolytic coupling caps are bad and probably those in the PS supply. Should I go ahead with replacing the larger electrolytics or does anyone have any other suggestions where to start?
