so. you all know me as the kid who is only 14 but dreams big in terms of bass. now here i have another stupid idea. i asked my mum if i could get like, a present or sumthin if i got straight a's first semester in school. (ima sophmore now, no longer FRESHmeat lol) she, surprisingly said yes. first thing that popped into my head, and out of my mouth was "iCon 15d2" and dude, i almost cried cuz she still said yes when she saw the pricetag. so here are my plans. it is eventually goin in my car, so the box is going to be a low ported mdf. i want to know what i can do with it for a ht setup whilst i wait for my car. i am iffy on max power, estimating between 1500-2000w seeing …

I'm looking for a subwoofer and speakers to use in a 2.1 bedroom home theater/listening set up. I have in mind Using a 150-300w (Was looking at the bash 300w plate amp but not sure about if I like the auto on/off) plate or regular amp (up for debate). Info: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-750 As far as subwoofer goes, I had in mind using a 10" in a T-line specifically the soundqubed SDC 2.0. mainly because I think they look awesome, there cheap, and wouldn't mind throwing it in my car one day. Im looking for a flat responce and something that sounds good. Also up for debate. Info on amp: (10" isn't showing but here's the 8")http://www.sound…

  3. I was wondering if anyone had some objective data or even and explanation as to why a high end processor would sound better then a low end processor/receiver. I understand that subjective listening plays a role in what people prefer and that some audiophiles look at audio more as a hobby but is there a hardware reason that impacts sound quality? I am not talking about double blind tests and the side that states everything sounds the same but as of yet I have not found any objective data that would justify this night and day difference. I have searched the internet for sometime and found a profile on photobucket that has quite a selection of photo's, yes some people will k…

I currently have an 8" ORB Audio sub in my home theater. My living room is about 20' X 12' and opens up to the kitchen that is about a 1/3 of the size of the living room. I currently have 2 10" AA arsenals that are sitting in my garage. I want a bigger sub stage. Something that will extend into the 20hz range. Can I use these subs for Home use? Or should I sell the pair and buy something geared toward my home theater. I really like the idea of an IB system, but I'm open to a box system in the living room. FYI, I have some building skills, so I can build an enclosure for any box design. I'm just a virgin when it comes to the home theater side of things. All suggestions ar…

  6. Im on a limited budget and limited on space. I'm looking for a decent HT set up to match with my plasma TV. I dont need anything extravagant, but I would like to have something that sounds good. Ive been on crutchfield, newegg, partstexpress and bestbuy and cant seem to find anything that is worth even the high prices they want for them. What Im looking for... 5.1 surround system with receiver to power them. (already have a bluray player so I dont need a combo) small package I am working on limited space so the system needs to fit on a shelf or be hung from the walls. I do have neighbors in the appartment next and above me so I have no need for something that can blast ou…

  7. I've been getting the itch to do a 5.1 setup with a pair of nice front speakers. I've always wanted to use some Peerless drivers and I've read a lot of good things about their components. Zaph thinks highly of them so I figure I'll give them a shot. I'm looking at the 810921 tweeter, 830872 midrange, and a pair of the 830883 woofers for the 3-way fronts and just using a single tweeter and woofer for each of the surrounds. I'm undecided on what drivers to use on the center, but maybe WTW. 810921 Peerless 1" textile dome HDS tweeter Nomex 830872 - 4" Nomex cone woofer Shielded Exclusive 830883 - 7" woofer I've been wanting to test out Madisounds crossover design service as…

Well at work some lady brought in an old Zenith Solid State turntable. I wasn't sure about the model number. All I found was this number(Z565W-157309) and a google search got me nothing. It works and everything but the lady said it sound "horrid". My first guess was that the electrolytic coupling caps are bad and probably those in the PS supply. Should I go ahead with replacing the larger electrolytics or does anyone have any other suggestions where to start?

I'd like to build a media PC to use as both my source of music and television. Any recommendations on where I can start looking? If it works better with satellite tv or cable I can do either. I have no idea on the functionality of the slingbox, but sort of looking for something similar for in house use only. My needs are: -Channel changing capability -Remote control -DVR -PC monitor only or TV out is fine as I will buy a TV and build a PC specifically for this purpose

My Marantz is on the fritz and I haven't called a dealer yet for anything BUT .... it's about 5yrs old not that I think it's old but I wonder what its gonna cost me to fix... it does a cycle boot kinda like a computer... I use this Marantz in the bedroom hooked into my PC .. The model is SR-5002. It's great but who knows if it can be repaired and stay that way... I'll look into the cost but …

  11. I'm in the process of building a home theater sub using one of the Mach 5 Audio MJ-18s, I'm going with the recommended 8.8 cubic foot enclosure and was using Win ISD to plot the slot port. I have 2 questions, 1.) What type of vent should I use with this? Should I go with the slot vent or use the conventional round vents? 2.) How much power should I feed this sub? Does anyone have a recommendation for an amplifier for this sub? I don't care if it's conventional or a plate amp. Thanks again everyone.

I finally got them BOTH done and hooked up. I'm not putting a finish on them. They look fine to me. They're made out of 3/4" MDF with oak laminated onto them. On the edges you can see the MDF, but at this point, not a big deal to me. These needed to stay rather cheap so I didn't buy very nice wood. Each tower houses 2 Dayton DC160s (8ohm versions), one HiVi TN28 (6 ohms) and an 8 ohm 3khz passive crossover(from Partsexpress). Both towers are powered by a Dayton APA150 in stereo mode, running at just under 4 ohms. The source of audio is my computer. These things sound awesome. They respond very audibly into the low 40s, and audibly into the 30s. The best word I can think o…

I am looking to get a rack mount amp to use in my room to power 2 AQ 15's. I am looking at the Behringer ep2500 and the GTD Audio GD-750. I can get both for the same price. I know that the Behringer is more widely used and known for a good 2400 RMS but the GTD is 2 x 2250 @ 2 ohms, so it is almost double power and the same price. I want to know if anyone has experience with the GTD or if anyone has heard anything about the GTD amp. Depending on how the GTD performs will help me decide what amp to use.

I was looking at the MAW-12 for home theater use...the MAW-12 looks like it can be used in a rather small enclosure (1.8 ft3 tuned to 28 HZ) It looks like a good value with reasonable low extension in a small vented enclosure. ANyone using this sub ? Especially in a similar enclosure? Any recommendations on any of the MACH5 line for home theater or another driver ? Criteria for the sub are 1) small - 2ft3 or less 2) decent (87 db + sensitivity) 3) decent low frequency extension (35 Hz or below F3) Has anyone used one of the MAW drivers with a passive radiator ? The MAW-12 could definitely be used with a passive radiator setup...

So here's the deal, my roomates and I host get togethers at out apartment a lot and what we are really lacking is a a stereo in our downtairs kitchen/living room area and thats where we do most of out partying. In the coming month or so, we are going to construct a bar and I am planning on integrating the sound system into the bar. I want to keep as much space as possible underneath so I do not want to construct enclosures within the front of the bar, rather I'd like to have an open baffle type of alignment. The goals are to have it be somewhat efficient and party proof. By party proof I mean I want it to take abuse. I was thinking multiple 6.5" or 8" woofers on ea…

I am looking for an amp for my room, a 5.1 amp/receiver, with a sub rca out for sure. I don't need a huge amount of sq, i just require it to sound good enough for a party, i.e. doesnt clip out at medium volumes up. I need it to get loud. My franken speakers are odd, in the sense that they take power very well, and sound much better than i think they should for $20 walmart speakers. I'd post a pic, but I don't feel like getting laughed at anymore. I don't care about it doing rated power (ie a pyle pro can claim 2,000w, but put out 800w), i just need at least a solid 75-125w per channel, actual output. EQ would be a cool option, not necessary. Budget is $200. Alternativel…

I am using a home amplifier than does not have filters in it. So what happens is it send the full frequency range to my subwoofer. It has been working that way for a very long time with no problem, but it's messing up my image. It's playing frequencies it is not suppose to and instead of only feeling the bass I can hear higher notes coming from it too, and that's annoying the least setting the stage in another direction. I know most of you won't approve this but I have the subwoofer at the left channel and the original speakers I bought with it, two of them for 4 ohm load, at the right channel. The speakers are positioned fairly good and If I play only them there is no do…

Well i have a Dayton HPSA1000 plate amp that been sitting here for some time now and its time to put it to use. Well my next is looking for a driver or drivers. I have tons of air space so this is not a porblem. Due to most of my money going to a different build im going to have to limit my budget for driver or drivers to 300 shipped. With the lack of budget i been considering a single 18 set up (Mach 5 IXL 18.4, FI SSD, etc). Any suggestions, im not limited to anything as long as it fits my needs? Corey

Without sounding like a complete douche and "Oh, I have so much audio equipment ..." I think everyone knows there's a lot of good pieces out there on the used market. I've got JL w7's and my share of 4-channel amplifiers. My question is about the w7, but any car audio equipment for that matter ... I know next to nothing about home audio, other than I like it and I'm sure I'll go down this route as I get older (mature / family). In this situation, is it worth holding onto these pieces and trying to make something of it? Or just go on as I would and purchase proper home audio pieces when the time comes? The only reason I ask is it would be silly to spend $500 on a 300w h…
