Hi Everyone. It has been a while since I've posted here... You may (or may not) remember my build log (start on page 5ish) The old Mercedes has reached a point where I need to sell it. It's sad after all of the work I've done, but it's getting too expensive to maintain. I spent a lot of money on the audio gear in that car, and I'm sure I won't get anything near its value when I sell it. So my current plan is to remove the audio gear and replace it with inexpensive stuff. I don't have a car to transplant the gear into, so I was thinking that maybe I could make a nice little stereo for my woodshop using my 3 way front speakers, my sub in a new sealed enclosure, and my …

i have this 5.1 system. i got it for cheap, and they included a 5 yr warranty at no cost. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DAVHDX589W the bass from the stock sub/box is pretty decent, according to specs its a 6 3/4 (i think it was 3/4") sub, 1.5 ohm and the amp feeds 280w rms to it. id like to build a new box for either this sub, or get 1-2 new subs (6.5s or 8s) that i can wire to ~1.5, rather not go any lower becuase thats what the stock sub is at now. if i do 2 subs thats 140w rms each. ideas? maybe a t-line? idk anything about HT, but i want something that gets alot louder with the power im working with, and something that gets pretty low too. bu…

I am wanting to build a new sub for my room. It will consist of a Soundsplinter RL-P 18 on a 500 watt Oaudio plate amp. I have the 18 already, but i still need to buy the plate amp. My question is about the enclosure and placement of the enclosure. The box specs on the Soundsplinter website say 12.8 cubes tuned to 18hz. I want to put the sub under my desk, but im not sure were to put the sub /port. ill try and post a picture of the desk and were it is compared to the rest of my system. http:// theres the desk i want to put it under http:// theres the desk to the left, and my couch to the right. then directly to the right is were my tv/reciever and towers are. The max d…

I don't have any clue what it is called, but i recall a program for the computer with a series of microphones that listen to a given song or test track and give a top view of the sound waves throughout the room. I am trying to figure out what it is, so we can dial in the system my church currently owns. Thanks! -Chris

Well im trying to contact Jacob from sundown about those SI bm 10's he reconed, for my ht/music setup in my room. Im wondering if that sub on an O audio 500 watt plate amp at 8 ohms (385 watts) is a decent setup for what i want. I have Polk monitor 50 floorstanders, a CS1 center, r15's for rears and im about to buy a Harman Kardon AVR 247 reciever. It is for about 50% games, 25% music and 25% movies. Is there anything else i should consider? (such as a different sub or amp) and How big should i build the box, what should i tune it to, and how much port area should i give it? here are the specs of the sub: RE: 6.89 ohms Z: 8 ohms Fs: 27.2 Hz Qes: 0.56 Qms: 3.32 Qts: 0.48…

Im in need of a new home theater reciever for my room. My older sony reciever finally gave out the other day, and i cant stand listening to my games and movies through my tv speakers! I dont have too much money to spend on one(roughly $200). I found a couple Harman Kardon HK AVR 247's on ebay that were going for a good price, and i was wondering if that reciever will suit my setup. If not, could someone point me in the right direction? I have Polk monitor 50 floorstanders, polk r15 rears, and a Polk CS1 center. Its manly 50% games, 25% music, and 25% movies. thanks

So I know this will sound completely noob-tastic, but I was wondering how you would power a sub if you wanted to make a high power home audio setup.

Well I picked up this turntable from work. It is an interesting looking turntable and I just wanted to see if anyone Knew anything about them. Here's the pictures. It is a simple set up as far as the platter goes. Single belt driven but I think that the motor is shot. So I need to find on of those. The Tonearm was messed up too so I will need a new tone arm. And it is missing the Top Glass piece. WE had two of the turntables, the one i have is less complete. The other one is complete and the motor works so I got the shit end of the stick. Well if anyone knows anything at all about the tables and possible replacement parts, please let me know. Thanks.

Hey all, I have plenty of experience in the auto world but when it comes to home audio I am a newb. We have two existing Memphis 15's and are currently running them off of one channel of our sub amp. We use to have a servo driven unit on the other channel but it repetedly fails so I have been tasked to add another set up. We are grabbing 2 18" SSD's and I am making two seperate new enclosures, one for the 15's and one for the 18's. My question comes in how many cubes should I be looking at? It seems everyone goes really large but I dont wanna burn up the sub by not having enough resistance on the movement of the cone, so I was thinking 8 net for the 15's and around 12 net…

I just got a pair of jl w0 8's to mess around with. How big should i build a box for the pair, and what should i tune it to? They will be in my room, off of about 80 watts a piece.(thats all i have to work with) I want it to have authority in the lows(25-35), and thats about it. The setup is mainly for music. i know i shouldn't expect much from these eights, but i think it should be a step up from my yamaha 10 off of 40 watts. lol. thanks!

Has anyone had any experience building transmission line enclosures for a 12" SSD. Saw a post on another forum where this person used a Fi SE, 12", to build one and everything I read about these cabinets talks about how accurate and loud they can be. Only downside is they are HUGE and heavy, but in comparison to regular sealed and ported enclosures they are superior, best match for any driver, superior SQ, and the most output. Also, this one was tuned to 25hz and would reputedly play notes an octave below that no problem. Sounds like it may be a good design for a combination music/HT enclosure. Any thoughts about these claims and or experience would be appreciated. satwil…

Ive been thinking about building a box for the home theater. my tv is about 48" wide, and at the back, its about 40" wide, but it is only about 16" deep, so theres lots of room behind it in the corner and I was going to build a triangular box to fill the empty space. I already have a old RF stage 1 12. I see the Fs and VAS specs used alot for HT and this subs Fs isnt too high at 27 and the suspension must be somewhat loose at 80L equivalence, not real high, but better than most subs Ive come across. rest of the specs can be found here. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/fattach_get.php?p_sid=FtNpc2Kj&p_tbl=9&p_id=273&p_created=…

So I have the following equipment I'm working with and want to build a new HT sub. Right now I have a Mach 5 MJ18 on a Parts Express 500 watt plate amp. I think it's around 6 cubes tuned to mid to upper 20's, not sure anymore. The box design isn't working with my new arrangement so I want to build something new. Basically I'm looking for opinions on if I should use the MJ18 again or use the pair of Sundown sd1 12's that I have. What would you do in my situation? I need somewhat of a multi purpose setup. It would be used for music, movies and video games but mostly leaning towards music.

Right now I have an MJ18-M in 11 cubes net tuned to 20hz with about 650 watts. I was wondering if I would get more output with an 18" Nightshade at the low end in the same enclosure? I listen to music about 15% and watch movies and play games 85%. I have a behringer EP1500 watt amp. Is it worth switching or not? I can get a trade for the nightshade is why I am asking. WinSD shows about the same spl.

I bought this speaker and put it in a prefab box. it does good but i think it could do better if it was in a better built box.( moves allot of air) it is in my room something the size of a dorm room. I use it mostly for music, I'm thinking maybe tuning it to 35-40 Hz. I would like to put it in a t line, but my box desinging skills are not up to par. Could some one help me out with some dimensions??? I'm not looking for sq. I know its a small speaker, but I'm in Iraq right now so I wanted something that Can pack up easily. and not take up to much space. Below is the speaker and the amp i have. Thanks for any help u can give me. The amp i am using The speaker

I was wondering if anyone had some objective data or even and explanation as to why a high end processor would sound better then a low end processor/receiver. I understand that subjective listening plays a role in what people prefer and that some audiophiles look at audio more as a hobby but is there a hardware reason that impacts sound quality? I am not talking about double blind tests and the side that states everything sounds the same but as of yet I have not found any objective data that would justify this night and day difference. I have searched the internet for sometime and found a profile on photobucket that has quite a selection of photo's, yes some people will k…

Finally started building these after having the part for a couple of months! (2) 12" Fi X Series, Dayton 500 watt plate amp, 3.0 cuft each, 4" aero port tuned to 24 Hz. Should be a nice replacement for this guy's 10" MTX sub.

I've been doing research on home subs and the prices are outrageous so i figured i'd try out a custom setup and incorporate a 10" or 12" fi q. anyone ever set one up at home? i want BIG car like bass( if possible) it'll be used for 60% music, 30% movies, and 10% gaming. what size box should be used? ported? sealed? also would an amp like this work? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=245-435

Well, I need more bass and was wondering if anyone has tried the "home wrecker" box... Not sure what sub I will be using, probably a cheaper on though, 15" most likely... something like kicker, alpine, Volfenhag, R.F. etc.... I figure no need getting anything too nice because most plate amps i see are only a couple hundred watts so... I am using some Aroura "Bass Shakers" and i frikkin love them but of course there is no real bass from them and my sub that came with the surround sound system just lacks... Any suggestions?, hopefuly "on the cheap"

This is my home stereo. It is a sorry jumble of car audio equipment. Feel free to comment, good or bad, within reason.
