  1. Due to the purchase of my first real TV, I am venturing into digital to digital signal. The TV has no RCA outs, so my Dayton 2.1 plate amp couldn't directly mate up with my TV. With some help of Neal and SDY, there was an option for a converter or amp replacement. Due to potential latency issues with the signal conversion and possible effect on the quality of the sound, I opted for a new little amp. So I just ordered the SMSL Q5 PRO as it has optical in, a remote, and RCA out. https://www.parts-express.com/smsl-q5-pro-stereo-amplifier-usb-optical-coaxial-dac-with-subwoofer-output-2x40w--230-210 This gives me the ability to still use the plate amp for just subwo…

Without sounding like a complete douche and "Oh, I have so much audio equipment ..." I think everyone knows there's a lot of good pieces out there on the used market. I've got JL w7's and my share of 4-channel amplifiers. My question is about the w7, but any car audio equipment for that matter ... I know next to nothing about home audio, other than I like it and I'm sure I'll go down this route as I get older (mature / family). In this situation, is it worth holding onto these pieces and trying to make something of it? Or just go on as I would and purchase proper home audio pieces when the time comes? The only reason I ask is it would be silly to spend $500 on a 300w h…

I know this is probably not under "Home Audio", but I'm taking my chances. Looking at TV's, I need an outside opinion. I can get a Samsung 61 inch or so, 1080p DLP TV for around $1500. What's the catch. I googled around for the Pro's and Con's of DLP TV's, but nothing gave me anything to hold on to. For instance one "Con" I saw was, "TV not small enough to hang on wall". <-- That means nothing to me. Anyways. I know nothing is too good to be true. I need some input. Thanks

I am not tooo interesting in using a home theater receiver and all of that. I moreso like the concept of putting a car system in home. Not for the outstanding theater surround sound just for the deep loud bass and all that. I was wondering what places like Best Buy and other places use to run their display system. I am looking moreso for like a brand and model. I am assuming they use power supplies but the only ones i have found are small ones for computers. And if possible I would like to avoid getting a battery charger and battery(s). I intend on at least 1 rf power 1000 5 channel amp. Maybe a large four channel and a 1000-1500 rms sub amp. Im looking for total sy…

So I am tired of my crappy computer speakers and i want to build an MT set myself, passive crossovers and all if I can figure out how, the soldering doesn't scare me cause I've built a headphone amp before. I want some decent cheaper components that I could use in my room maybe on my desk. I was looking at a tweet and woofer that I could use in a cabinet and then maybe in a year or two when I need to move into a new place (and need bigger home speakers) I could throw the speakers from the MT setup into my car and run active. I was looking at the mids and tweet on this page http://www.timbre-audio.com/SeasStandard.html I like those prices hahah and I know more of the cost…

  10. So guys, i'm frustrated with my system to a certain degree, i currently have my mains as a cerwin vega e-312 pair...they're ok but the enclosure is mostly sub -tiny midrange and a tweeter. It feels like my entire ht is subsonic lol- coupled with the 2 15's subwoofers covering the lfe channel. I want more midrange and midbass particularly for music - i want to hear actual bass timbre from a guitar like a cab. I'm thinking about the eminence beta 8a's which are readily available in my country. I wanna pair em with a soft dome-dayton probably -crossed at 3k maybe. I'm not sure how to model this, I've thrown it into winisd and i'm not too sure if i trust it. But any enclosu…

  11. Hello all and thank you in advance for your help. This will be my first build and I'd like to build a new subwoofer for my home audio system. I'm flexible, but would like somewhere around 800-1000W to drive a 12" sub in a ported box, and to do this I plan to spend somewhere around $500 or so. I don't have a great idea of what a realistic budget is, so I'm flexible, just would like to keep costs down. I need some help figuring out where to start. Could someone please point me in the direction of some good resources regarding amplifier selection specifically? Thank you all. Quick edit: I'm using an optical connection from my computer to a Yamaha RX-V67…

Alright, so I have been without any real tunes for quite a while lately and I think it is really starting to kill me. So starting this weekend I'm going to get the music on my Ext HD's straightened out and start this build... Zaph Audio - Slimline Wall Mounted Speaker - Part 1 Zaph Audio - Slimline Wall Mounted Speaker - Part 2 To power it I will be using a reciever off an old "surround" setup that I have. Plans are to also add 1 (maybe 2) MLI-65's for sub duty probably up to 80-90Hz ish (Sorry Sean). First Questions.... Where do I order parts for the crossover? Want to order them and the speakers as soon as possible with hopes of it getting in by this weekend. I know th…

Consists of a 12" Dayton Titanic mk III and a Dayton HPSA500 for power. Box will be around 3.5 cubes tuned to 25 Hz with 3 4" aero ports. Should sound pretty good hopefully. I will try to get some pics of the build but in the mean time, thoughts/input?

OK guys, need osme help. I plan on eventually getting a pretty kick a$$ set up for the house. To help get me started, my dad graciously gave me a Toshiba 5 channel (plus subwoofer, so 6) home system...minus receiver. The receiver crapped out. I'd like to get a receiver for these speakers that will also be fine for when the time comes to get a nice pair of Klipsch or B&W's. This system looks identical to this: Except the center channel is rectangular instead of more square like the satelite speakers. Here the specs for the speakers: Satellite Speaker Center Speaker Passive Subwoofer Type: 2 Way 2 Speaker 2 Way 2 Speaker …

At my house, I have these Kenwood floor standing speakers. It has 3 different looking tweaters, and 12"woofer. Then I look in my KEF rear speakers, and it has 1 speaker which has a tweater in the middle of a little 6" woofer. Obviously, the Kenwoods sound a lot better. BUt I am confused. I want to build my own, but why are there 3 different looking tweaters? I know that the frequencies are seperated by a crossover to the different tweaters, but when I search around for tweaters, I dont see tweaters being seperated by the frequency it plays. Help?

I need a pre-amp and pretty quick. It doesn't need a phono stage, just a volume knob. Passive would be fine and perhaps even preferred. I don't plan on keeping it very long or if I do it will be relegated to office/bedroom/garage duty. Something that is already depreciated so I wouldn't lose on buying it would be perfect. So if anyone has any recommendations or anything for sale let me know. I am open to about anything. I would prefer to spend less than $300 but don't want something super disposable either. If there was a cheap solution, in particular that was portable that could be sweet too. The current application is just as a source (single) for the whole hou…

Anyone have any recommendations on a good 500+/- watt amp? I'm bringing my Fi Q 18" home and I won't be using it for car audio for a while The box was tuned to 29hz, and I don't mind if I can't hit the ultra low notes in movies, but I'll mostly use it listening to music. Thanks

  24. Hey hows everybody doin? well I moved out and next year once im out of residence my parents decided they would give me the 7 year old 56" projection tv plus all the lazy boys in the house. I thought it would be genius to have a decent (awesome sounding first setup) setup. So what i have planned is mostly coming from partsexpress. The towers will be a MTM setup with 2 8" Dayton references (4ohm) and a Vifa D27TG-05 1" silk dome tweeter (8ohm). The crossovers are going to be the dayton 2 ways crossed over at 2kHz. The problems im having since im new to this is what should i set the crossover point to, i dont know how to build one so i have an option of 2 - 4.5kHz in 500Hz i…
