  2. Hi all, I have been away from SSA for a while but have come back with a new idea. Again, this is just an idea or starting point to build off of and I am looking to the more knowledgeable figures on this site to guide me some. I currently have a 16' by 16' room with a cheap logitech surround sound audio set up and am looking to combine two ideas I have. I have some great sounding speaker cabinets just sitting and collection dust and want to make my own home audio setup along with a great sub system. I currently have two recliners and want a couch to replace them so I thought I would build my own sectional couch made just how i want it and for the space available. Again…

I've been out of the home audio loop for a while now. A friend of mine would like to spend some of their tax return money on a new home theater setup. I suggested going with a 3.1 setup because of the shape and seating of the room. The area I'm weakest on is the subwoofer. Does anyone have any recommendations for a subwoofer? Preferably someone with experience with the sub they recommend that can be bought or ordered, not "build a box for a Fi 15" " The amp will most likely be the Denon AVR-587.

So here's the deal, my roomates and I host get togethers at out apartment a lot and what we are really lacking is a a stereo in our downtairs kitchen/living room area and thats where we do most of out partying. In the coming month or so, we are going to construct a bar and I am planning on integrating the sound system into the bar. I want to keep as much space as possible underneath so I do not want to construct enclosures within the front of the bar, rather I'd like to have an open baffle type of alignment. The goals are to have it be somewhat efficient and party proof. By party proof I mean I want it to take abuse. I was thinking multiple 6.5" or 8" woofers on ea…

  5. Got all of the pics up from HES this past weekend. Some absolutely insane setups there. The biggest surprise of the show in my eyes were the Silverline Minuets that cost $600 per pair. If I didn't have my Maggies at home I would have bought a pair on the spot. I'm usually not a big fan of bookshelf speakers, but the Minuets were just stunning in every way. Tons of over the top and uber expensive eye candy as well. Finally got to hear the Cabasse La Sphere's in person as well. Nothing like dropping $150,000 on speakers... Oh and Jim, more tube amps than I have ever seen in my life. The Wilson room was pitch black except for the tubes glowing, it was absolutely beautiful…

I have a set of older Akai home speakers and the 10" subs are gone, the rubber surrounds are gone. I want to improve the sound, but am not looking to spend to the point of buying a complete speaker(box/sub/tweeter etc.). Where can I get replacement 8ohm speakers for them? I've tried looking around on the web, but so far am finding "speakers" meaning the whole speaker box(and speakers with it), I'm just looking to replace the subs. I've tried searches with "home speakers/diy/speakers/etc.... I'm located in Burlington-Oakville Ontario area. PS: I'm not a stereophile by any stretch of the imagination as you can tell, nevertheless would appreciate anyone's help.

Hey Guys. I bought a Klipsch SW-450 sub for my house. I am having issues with it wanting to shake down the entire side of the house it's on, rather than provide clean crisp bass. There is lots of interior walls and small rooms near the subwoofer (laundrey, halfbath) It's located in a somewhat small foot printed nook but has lots of headspace. main floor so basement is underneath but the back wall that the port fires into is an exterior wall. Is a downfiring sub rear port a bad idea in this case? later tonight I'm going to try and fit it in an identical nook on the otherside of the living room that has two exterior walls supporting it. I'm hoping the rigidity …

I have Dayton Audio spa 500 plate amp for power, and the sub I will be using is a sa-12 I have lying around. This will be used in my home theater. My questions are, what is the typical tunning freq with home audio. (I will also listen to some music occasionally) I have also noticed that in home theater that the boxes are larger than typically used in a car audio setup. This will be my first ht project and I was wondering if some one could point me in the right direction. ( box designing literature/software) Thanks in advance.

So i have the Tss-450 home theater set up and the subwoofer has lost its performance. I'm thinking about switching a new sub into it. I've always been into car audio so i've done plenty of custom set ups there. Would it sound very good if i put another sub in its place in the box?

I'm working on my home theater setup. I'm putting A 110" screen with an epson 8100 projector. I want to build a big sub setup. I'm framing a wall out 2' to hide an old fireplace. I'll have 30" on either side of the screen to work with. One side will have a cabinet with my component stack in it. The other will have the sub. So I'll have aprox. 24" deep, 30" wide, and 95" tall. So about 40 cu ft gross. Originally I was going to run a single 18" or a pair of 15's, and I may still. But now I'm thinking, why not go with a 21"? But I'm not finding many 21's. GoLs are to spend less than $800 total and be great for movies and HDTV. It will be 80% for tv and movies and 20% for mus…

I want to put the sub under my desk, but im not sure were to put the sub /port. ill try and post a picture of the desk and were it is compared to the rest of my system. http:// theres the desk i want to put it under http:// theres the desk to the left, and my couch to the right. then directly to the right is were my tv/reciever and towers are. I know this is a pretty dumb question but I just can't find the answer with my ongoing research. I plan to build a pretty nice home system for my poolroom so we can listen to some good music while we're in the pool. I've researched for bass I need a plate amp so I'll go with either a Dayton or a Bash. But for mids and highs I'll grab a 4 channel amp like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0013CH7UK/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1310571806&sr=8-1 But this is the part where I'm noobish, how do I make both amps work as one? As in play the same music? Im thinking just connect RCA's but not too sure. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time! And for a in depth view of my pla…

I've always want to run a sub in my house but can't figure out how to power it. I once used a cpu to power the amp.. but those are crazy expensive to get one big enough to do anything... so i was wondering.. Can you use something like these to power a sub in your house? http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/live-sound/live-power-amplifiers I thought I might have seen some people use these to power subs in there house and was wanting to try it out if it does work. Also, is there a way to use a bass guitar amp head to power them?.. I play bass for my church and I could just bring a bass cabinet's head home if that works?.. Because one time we had a party and my friends hooke…

Currently im brainstorming for an HT system for my apartment at college. Right now im leaning towards going with 3 zaph bargain mtm's for fronts, mach 5 15, and the rest i need opinions on. First, id like a budget oriented reciever, but dont know what to look for really. Second, i was thinking i could just use a cheap bash/pe plate amp for the sub, but would like opinions? And lastly im not sure if i would need a pre-amp or any processing or anything else? I would just like the reciever to play music off an ipod, with my xbox 360 on games and dvds, as that would be the only uses.

I'm building another HT subwoofer, this time for my roommate. The box is 4.8 cu ft tuned to 21Hz I believe. (I would have to check that again, I don't have my paper right beside me. I already have the braces planned out for this. The woofer is going to be an SI MAG d2 15" powered by an O Audio 500w plate amp. My question pertains to polyfill though. Do any of you guys recommend polyfill? Also, since this just makes the box ACT larger, does it have any effect on power handling?

OK, here comes the head scratchin. I originally just thought I would do a 2stage manifold, but I also have enough room to do a line array above and across the screen area. I know there isn't a definitve answer on this, but is either application a safer bet generally speaking than the other? Is one design more susceptible to cancellation issues? Here is my room. Floor plan Sketch of proposed Line array Sketch of manifold placement. (progress after deciding on narrow manifold wit…

Alright, I just ordered a Dayton Reference 15" HF subwoofer for my HT. I am going to use this 90% for movies. I just need some help with an enclosure. If someone could give me a rough size I should build it and a tuning frequency that would be prime. If you're feeling ambitious you can even hook me up with a design. Thanks for anything you contribute!
