Talk to me about the theory behind them. Designs etc... Would the mach 5 mli's be a good driver to use for a line array project. I'm curious and my room is rather short but lets say I have 6 feet to work with unless I built them for my living room. Which because of the layout would have to be a 2.1 system.

I've always want to run a sub in my house but can't figure out how to power it. I once used a cpu to power the amp.. but those are crazy expensive to get one big enough to do anything... so i was wondering.. Can you use something like these to power a sub in your house? http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/live-sound/live-power-amplifiers I thought I might have seen some people use these to power subs in there house and was wanting to try it out if it does work. Also, is there a way to use a bass guitar amp head to power them?.. I play bass for my church and I could just bring a bass cabinet's head home if that works?.. Because one time we had a party and my friends hooke…

I want to build a box or maybe 2 with the 18" judge series subwoofers. Would these work well tuned @ 20hz? What would the size of the box be for a tune at 20hz?

My father-in-law is getting ready to install his theater system in the new house. He's kinda on a budget, but wanted me to about this brand, specifically about the AC640 & AC680. Whats your input on theses? Thx, Vic.

Just got me a M-5 MJ-18 4 ohm, and was looking for a new or used amp to put to it and was wondering what kind, plat or rack mount. I like the rack more for the fact that im not committed to just the sub and can use it on my speakers instead if i wish. Just trying to get some ideas, brands and prices are a plus. Thanks, Aron G. turtles1118

Correct me if I'm wrong: But isn't line-level = line-level??? I could have an CD diskman go into a old car tape deck (with the aux jack in the front) into a home amp; it doesn't change the fact that it's line-level? And thus: http://www.mobileaudio.com/rac-faq/rac-faq_5.html#SEC106 That applies to any line-level signal... ...correct?

I have a set of older Akai home speakers and the 10" subs are gone, the rubber surrounds are gone. I want to improve the sound, but am not looking to spend to the point of buying a complete speaker(box/sub/tweeter etc.). Where can I get replacement 8ohm speakers for them? I've tried looking around on the web, but so far am finding "speakers" meaning the whole speaker box(and speakers with it), I'm just looking to replace the subs. I've tried searches with "home speakers/diy/speakers/etc.... I'm located in Burlington-Oakville Ontario area. PS: I'm not a stereophile by any stretch of the imagination as you can tell, nevertheless would appreciate anyone's help.

I create a lot of bass lines in the 16-35hz range and need some good headphones to listen to the music a lot better than what i am doing now.. I see the reviews for these are great but do i need to really get these for my goals? In a few hours from now, i'm planning on buying a used pair of these for around $150. I like them because of their insane power capability without the requirement of an amp. That's something i keep reading that many people like about them.. that and the fact on how low they drop. Any other headphones out there for my goals that may be cheaper without the need for an amp?

This has been in the works for some time. I know that Chad and his crew are extremely excited about this new move. This will definetly shake things up in the Home Audio realm.More for less is a real understatment. Take some time and read through all the website has to offer. I'm sure you'll be impressed. Would love to hear thoughts about Chad's new company. http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/

Alright, I just ordered a Dayton Reference 15" HF subwoofer for my HT. I am going to use this 90% for movies. I just need some help with an enclosure. If someone could give me a rough size I should build it and a tuning frequency that would be prime. If you're feeling ambitious you can even hook me up with a design. Thanks for anything you contribute!

I've recently caught bass fever and now my home setup just won't due. This being said I have a spare 600 watt amp and was planning to hook up a sub on my home system. I looked into modifying a computer psu to power the car amp over other solutions simply because I build computers as well and have a few laying around. The only thing I'm unsure of is this... am I going to need a power supply over 600 watts to power the amp? I don't plan on maxing it out but even if I were to I wasn't sure if I just needed any old 12 volt rail considering thats all a car battery is.

If no one remembers, I'd previously tried finding adequate speakers for apartment/dorm parties. I'm back at it again. Most parties consist of two at least 12" PA systems. I have 2 of these: http://powerwerks.com/page/PW50-20.aspx They're adequate, but have little midbass and no low-frequency ability. Something like this: http://www.pitbullaudio.com/live-sound/speakers/powerwerks-pw15ps-100-watt-active-powered-15-pa-speaker-monitor-cabinet.html is more like what you see when you go out. I've also seen double stacked 15" cabinets, but I'm not looking for something so huge. Questions: Should I simply get a sub for the setup I currently have? Should I only add the 1…

Ok so I should have my mli65's tomorrow and I was thinking about using them in some book shelf style speakers I could use with a reciever off of my computer. I plan on matching them up with some sort of tweeter (any ideas?) And doing the top in some thiner laminate with some rod supporting it. Let me say I suck at sketchup and this drawing is not to scale. If I did the math right though it should end up at 4.5' and 28'^2 the whole way 7"x4". Any thoughts comments concerns? Oh and I will be using 1/2" Baltic only because I think anything more will be overkill. I may end up doing a kerf kut or two too in the port area. We'll see. I play things by ear

First my goals. As soon as possible I need to test a subwoofer at home, my sub output on my receiver just took a dump but conveniently I have Front L/R outputs so I can still use it as a receiver and then use the offboard proc to control my sub. This will be temporary and then the processor will be used to control my front mains and subwoofer. I would like flexibility for the future as it will be a test bench to play with slopes, points and such previous to building any passives. Also for general trouble shooting and dicking around with drivers. I would like to be able to run a full 3 way mains stereo pair and subwoofers if possible....if I have to lose something it …

I have been reading, but still don't understand. Is there a difference between home subwoofers and car subwoofers? Would i have a problem hooking up a Fi Q to a plate amp? And the speakers. Is it not possible to hook up lets say some JL ZR650-CSi speakers to a receiver. Would this not work?

This is my current setup here in my house in Manhattan (I'm a junior in EE at K-state). Speakers: Magnepan MGIIB Amplification: QSC CX 902 for the sub, QSC Powerlight 1.0HV for the Maggies, and an ART SLA-1 just there... Preamp: Behringer T1953 w/ upgraded tubes Crossover/EQ: Behringer DCX 2496 DVD/CD/SACD player: Oppo 981-HD TV: Currently cheapo 27" CRT, will have a ~37" LCD HDTV before the end of the month In the mail are two Mach 5 Audio MAW 15's for the substage, haven't entirely decided on the configuration that they will be in yet. Overall I don't think its too shabby for a college house, don't mind the mess currently I just had to re-arrange everything toni…

I have two 15" subwoofers in my music setup at home in a dual fifteen sealed box, is it worth getting a pair of boxes to run one per side? Further more, if so, should I run them in stereo?

I'm planning to build a budget setup to listen to music while I'm at work. I operate a CNC router in a wood mill which is extremely noisy, and requires ear plugs to operate all day. I need something loud enough to hear from ~5ft away under these conditions. Obviously fidelity is out of the question, so high dollar equipment isn't necessary. Just need to hear my music. I plan on using my Lepai 2020+ amplifier powering 2 Pyle 6" midrange speakers and a pair of Pyle PSN1165 tweeters. My question: If i wire a mid and tweeter to each channel, will I need a crossover of some sort, or for this setup will a plug and play be fine? The only controls this amp has is volume, and a su…

Well, ive been crusing around her for a while and i think i discovered a enclosure id LOVE to build. Im debating on building a TL enclosure for either one 10" or a single 8". to top it off i kinda want to do it as cheap as i can(i know i know, audio, cheap, HAH.). I think i found my amp and sub, but i need the opinions of seasoned builders. Ive only played with car audio before so this home theater stuff is newer to me, i have a sub-par setup going, but nothing fancy. But my substage is lacking, so i need something with a little more "oomph". Amp choice is a Audiofile VRS 1205 from www.alexjr.com (http://www.apexjr.com/Audiofile.htm) and the sub i have yet to really decid…

Okay this might sound like a dumb question, but I still need an answer. On The Heathkit AA-151 there is a magnetic input for the Phono. My question being that there are the right and left channel RCA inputs and the ground pin (no phono ground tie spot on back of amp). Do I tie that to the chassis ground or common ground? I'm assuming the common because almost everything is isolated from the chassis. Just wanted to check so I don't mess up anything. Here are the schematics if that helps. http://www.wdox.com/pics/aa151l.jpg http://www.wdox.com/pics/aa151r.jpg Thanks
