I am hoping that all of you with more experience in the car audio world can help me out. I am designing a home theater installation for a friend. My friend has never heard an I.B. (Infinite Baffle) sub but he plays guitar and has mucho experience with car subs. He is of the firm opinion that 15" and 18" subs cannot hit like 10" and 12" subs. I am recommending an I.B. sub installation, using 4 Q18's in 2 manifolds mounted in the attic, with each manifold having 2 drivers mounted on opposite sides but facing in the same direction and wired out of phase, for that extra 2nd harmonic cancellation. I had to sell my house (divorce) and am leasing now so I can't demo an I.B. sub…

I will be building a box for 2 18" BTLs in a Tahoe. The subs will point up of course, but what about the port. Should I port up or back? I am not to sure as this is my first build for an SUV. I have heard back before, but have seen some greats like Meade do both and am unsure myself. Lastly, do you think this setup will hit real hard. Lookin for some pretty high numbers, as is everyone probably is though.

The rubber lip around the edge of sub is not aligned properly to the holes in the metal. I was just curious if it would damage the sub for me to peel the lip off and align it correctly. The only reason I would do this is so the people that install the sub dont slip up and just drill right through the metal instead of the holes designated. Thanks.

  6. We're planning out and gathering funds for our new build in a 98 durango. We're walling off at the b pillar and basically have more room than we know what to do with. We could really build a box as big as 50cubes if we'll be sitting on 4x18" BTLs tuned to 30hz for daily and pulling an RTA out to meter the wall to find the best high output frequency to tune to(yet to be determined obviously). Amps will be rather 4x rockford power 4000's or 4xMemphis 4000's depending on how money sits. Rockfords are obviously the preferred choice but at a bit of a cost. Since we have the room, should we just stay at a max of 32 cubes or run a larger box? I mean with a 3rd magnet and all t…

Would it be ok to put the subs forward and port back into the car through the arm rest in the back seat. I was thinkin of doin sealed, but think i am hooked on ported enclosures. i will be doin a small cut-through behind the arm rest in the back seat where it could port into the car. what do you more experienced installers think??? Also, would I be better off using aero ports pointing into this opening or just use the basic port?

  9. Hello, So there has seem to be some confusion lately about the N series, and I wanted to start a topic to clear things up for the normal users who may or may not know what to buy. So could anybody that either works at F.i, or anybody that has and tested any of their N series equipment, please explain their use and purpose clearly. For example, what is the difference between the BTL N1, and the BL for instance. Why so many different lines and different job specific equipment that may confuse the consumer or may be overwhelmed by so many options? As of right now, the website has 6 total different lineups, and if you include the BTL series, you have a …

OK so the other day I was showing off my BTL to some friends. Gain is set correctly with dmm, and about 10 seconds in to a song the sub makes a weird noise and then freezes. Well I am thinking I fried the sub and Ill need a recone kit, which made me upset to start with because I only gave it like 2400wrms. Well I take the sub out of the box and what do i find? Not a burnt coil. But a broken magnet on the motor. The magnet is litterally cracked and pushed in and caused the coil to scratch and get stuck. What would cause this? And how can I get it fixed. This sub was never abused.

As the title suggest, can I resell or trade back the 15" SSD I have that is still in great shape for some credit for purchase of a "bigger" and "badder" sub? Looking for 15" BL with a few options and different ohm load. Advice? Input? PMs? Please let me know! Just thought I would post here for Nick or Scott or Shawn to provide input, or tell me to take it to PM if necessary. Bob

hey the other day my friend was moving his enclosure (with sub in it) and it slipped out of his hand and when it hit the floor the motor snapped rite off of the basket. so what im wondering is how much would a 18" basket and a recone kit be for his btl. the motor is daily, and universal... he would like it to be dual 1 ohm. it was fully loaded, 3rd magnet, ect. he wants it to be the same as it was. also he has a 18" 05 re xxx that is messing up and he is wondering about a recone kit for that too. tried sending you guys a pm but inbox is full. any help is vary much appreciated. Thank you. - Lance

Is there any other way to get a hold of Fi besides email? I ordered a BTL , and on my email receipt it said i ordered a dual 1-ohm, I needed a dual 2-ohm. I emailed them ( sales and orders) to let them know of the mistake but i haven't got a reply to let me know if it has been corrected or not.

Hey guys, I am planning on trading my single BL 10" to a friend for 2 10" SSD's . I am trading because I just cant come up with the money for a new amp and another BL 10". So I figure, with my current amp (eD 9.1) I would be better off with 2 D1 SSD's. I have a custom built box for 2 10's , but never could come up with the monies to purchase the 2nd BL so the box is just sitting in my basement living room. I am thinking the SSD's would sound great off 1200 watts or 600 each. What I am hoping is that they will be louder than the single BL, I am assuming that with the extra cone area of the 2 that they will be louder off that alone. What do you guys think?
