I just installed my new Fi Q12 today, and it sounds fantastic for the most part. But there are a few frequencies that are causing a loud rattling/popping noise. It's in a sealed box, I'm 100% certain I'm not clipping it, or overpowering it. Lower frequencies don't cause the noise, just higher ones around 100 hz I'd guess. The noise only happens at mid to high volume. It sounds like the noise is coming from directly behind the dustcap. Is the problem a loose dustcap? Any input is appreciated.

its right at about 4 cu.ft if I can add some volume when I actually start fitting I am shooting for 4.2 cu.ft.. Not including the port and speaker displacement. Port 4 3/8" x 11 1/4" x 23" long @ ~32hz The fron is angled so it will fit to the seat area and I can seal the cabin from the trunk. I am going to make a custom seat that has a large rectangle hole cut off out of the center and have it foamed and upholstered to match the lower part of the seat. Thanks foir looking

I had the Q in my car hooked on a bxi2006d @ 1 ohm. Never really pushing it tough. Never ever smell the coil either. Now i change my car setup and decide that this sub would fit nicely in my home audio setup. so the big sealed 7ft/cu net box is now in my room. It is hooked up on a getho amplifier setup with a 22amp rail psu and a ma 1889i amp @ 1ohm. getting around 240watt max with the psu capacity well, the other day i realize a kind of rattling like noise with the sub playing at extremly low volume. At first i tough it was something on the wall rattling but then i realize by putting my ear next to the cone that the sound was coming of the sub. I've been using the same e…

Ok I am new and have been reading the forums for a few hours, and I can not find any specific questions on this topic. I want to know what these certain specs mean. Sub OD: 18.500” | 18.500” Cut ID: 16.750” | 16.750” Displacement: 0.18cuft | 0.18cuft also when it says Dual 1 ohm that means dual voice coil with 2000w RMS at 1 ohms and when it says dual 2 ohm that means dual voice coil with 2000w RMS at 2 ohm?

i just got my sub hooked up and my chasing electrical issues. while testing the sub i noticed the dust cap got very very warm, to the point of me wanting to pull my hand away when i touched it. the sub was not reaching xmax and was also not fully powered. i have the sub wired as follows to a ZX2500.1. now i noticed that the kicker amp flashes protect when the bass hits but its not constant. so i expected there to be a grounding issue. i ran all new 0ga power and ground using 5/8" brass bolts and nuts and 1/8" brass flat washers on a freshly grinded clean section of my frame rail. im replacing my alt wire to 0ga and am looking into a new alt. all this said i feel that th…

So...I installed my new sax-125.2 amp for my components...got it hooked up...turn on the truck....HORRIBLE alternator whine.... so i grounded the RCA cables on the HU and bam its fixed(pioneer HU btw)... so then i went ahead and tested my components. well i turned up the volume and BAM my Fi Q just died . i tested each connection with a DMM until i took out the sub and well i lost a coil...i have no clue what happened...the sub is going on 3 years old now and i know how that sub acts by heart. i know i wasnt pushing it too hard and i was at 2 ohm on my saz-1500d in a 2.4 cu ft sealed box before sub displacement. also it was on for maybe 20 seconds before it died so i kno…

  11. preordered 3500d. now ordering subs i want bass,sq is a plus but i want more spl. i am going a sealed enclosure in a lexus gs400 i dont know the cu/ft. what would be better 3 fi q 12 or 4 ssd 12. and are the q the same displacement as the ssd, because then i could maybe do 4 instead of 3. then i would know the answer to my question. the 3 q would be dual 2 ohm at 1.34 ohms and the 4 ssd dual 2 ohm woulds get down to 1 ohm. plus it's hard to decide because i dont know the final rms of the amp.

I have a 15" FI SSD, i built a 2.4 cubic foot sealed box (before sub discplacement). Feeding it 870w rms, it gets decent loud, but everyone i show it too thinks it should be louder. One of my friends jl 10w3v3 in a ported box sounds just as loud, if not louder... Anyways, im fine with the output, but it has a really weird sound to it. Perhaps its rattling my back wall, but after listening to different types of songs i believe its something with the sub, but i lack the knowledge to know for sure. On say 3 6 mafia late night tip, its not so bad... if u listen closely u can still hear some off sounding sounds. On heavy metal, that i listen to daily, its a big problem. I cant…

Hey guys, told you I'd be back ... lol ... I recently had the post concerning the enclosure design for the SSD 15 and got that all figured out and taken care off. it looks so sexy with it in the box! Looks like it belongs there lol. Well the Fi sub came in today and I've ran into a problem, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to recone it already within the first 5 minutes of play ... First off let me start off by giving some info, the box of course is tuned to 32hz, I do NOT have a subsonic filter. I was warned of this and my hardheaded self didn't think it would screw anything up that fast. (Almost instantly, bout 5 mins of play time.) The sub is a dual 2 ohm…

Hey, I'm a noobie with the whole forum thing, and a novice with the whole audio things too, but I have learned a lot since the beginning of the summer. I have a 96' ford explorer 4dr. And my current box is ~6.7cu ft tuned at 32hz. I am powering it with a PA a3000bd at the moment, and it sounds great. But I plan on buying another one soon. And my question is do you guys think that it could handle 4600 watts rms @ 1 ohm? I know that 01 tahoe on 26's lol puts over 5k with his new build, and was putting over 4k with his old system and has been slamming his BTL's since day 1. I know it wont be 4600w exactly since I still have stock batt and alt. But lets assume thats taking c…

I dont understand, its almost as if the system has gotten quieter... I mean If I put my hand to the window, i can feel the air pushing on it hard, but the bag just vibrates like a mother fudgeer...doesnt move... I am always looking to be loud(its why i went with an 18) and although im bumping it up to another BL, id like to suceed with 1 for now. Any advice? Bigger Box? Different tuning?

I have a fully loaded BTL 15" and it got here yesterday. I had one of those cheap prefab boxes laying around so i popped it in and put 1200 watts to it from a hifonics amp. Wasn't quite what i was expecting. My friends two 12 inch mojos hit way harder than the BTL. I'm not trying to put down FI or anything i just want to know how i can improve the sound (loudness) of it. How much better will 2000 watts RMS to the btl and a much bigger box help? my current box is only 2.3 ft.^3 Heres the dimensions of my new box.

hey guys, i bought an fi btl 18" sub yesterday its my first big sub and im still learning so take it easy on me anyway, the guy i bought it from gave me the box with it as well (looks to be about 6 cubes) and there was a piece of mdf covering half of the port he mentioned something about it being there to build more pressure and im not sure what effect this would have anyway, in my opinion all it could possibly do is fuck the sub up somehow by making it move in a wa its not meant to in that box can i get any opinions on it? let me know why it could be good or bad -Stephen

So I'm chosing to buy a FI BL18. Just two things I would like a bit of help on. First should I buy the FI BL18? I'm wanting a 18" sub, but I don't know how well this runs, I want to know from other peoples experience of how well this subwoofer is. Also i'm aiming for LSQ partly but don't want the rattling and horrible distorted bass sound. My friend is running a 7 year old sub (of course its old so makes up most of the problem) and it sounds pretty bad when he turns it up. I'm going to install this sub into my Chevy Tahoe in back behind the seat. Tell me if I should change anything but i'm deciding to do this. Dual 1 or Dual 2? (Be honest I don't know what the heck which …

Hey guys! I am currently planning what i think (IMHO) what will be a pretty cool build but i have a few questions. Background: i currently have 1 fi Q12 loaded 2011 model running on a hifonics brutus 1700watt amp in a box that is too small so here is what im planning to do... The Plan: i would like to custom build a box to hold two fi q 12s. right now, its about 4 cuft ported and tuned to 32hz. i can provide tech specs if y'all need but i dont think its necessary for this post. The Question: I know fi came out with new models for 2012, and i know that running 2 different subs in the same box is a bad idea, so... will i have a problem running my 2011 q in a box with a 20…

So i had 2 of these sealed and decided on going one ported. I had the other in my room for about a month, before selling it to my brother. He got through with the enclosure built, and put the sub in but there was no sound. Its a dual 1 ohm so it is wired to 2 ohms (triple checked it). When we hook up either side, the sub will play, but when wired to 2 ohms there is no sound. Tried the sub in another car and the exact same thing happens. Any suggestions on what is going on?

I'm not the best with designing boxes and tuning them therefore hopefully someone may be able to help. Max trunk space available for enclosure: H=16" W=30" D=26" Was wanting to tune the box @ 36hz with about 5 cu ft. Any help on cut sizes and port dementions?
