Hi there, after trying to build my own ported box , with certain limitations, i came to ask myself that why do we need 12-16 sq inches of port are per cufeet ? The answer was to avoid air shuffing. BUT ! If a box is 3cufeet , the good book says to use minimum of 36 sq inches(minimum) port area for it, now if we use the same sub to play in a 5 cu feet box, port area increases to 12X5 = 60sq niches (minimum) Now i am guessing that the subwoofer will not miraculously start to push more air ,and that we may have to increase the port area to avoid air shuffing. The sub should displace the same amount of air in a 3 cu feet box or 5 cu ft box. So , why not use 36 sq inches port …

Ok I am new and have been reading the forums for a few hours, and I can not find any specific questions on this topic. I want to know what these certain specs mean. Sub OD: 18.500” | 18.500” Cut ID: 16.750” | 16.750” Displacement: 0.18cuft | 0.18cuft also when it says Dual 1 ohm that means dual voice coil with 2000w RMS at 1 ohms and when it says dual 2 ohm that means dual voice coil with 2000w RMS at 2 ohm?

I purchased a ssd12 not too long ago(3/15/10) and it has stopped working. Amp is fine good power still. When it does feel like working it sounds like its bottoming out even when its barely on. What is the procedure for something like this? Thanks in advance!

I know that Fi recommends ported for BL's, but for space reasons, I'm wondering if I could do a BL in a sealed box with one of TCSounds PRs (passive radiator). This will be running off an USAmps 4000DE (1600wrms). For space reasons, my plan was to go with a 12" BL in a sealed 2.5cf box, with a TCSounds 15" PR (or VMP as they call it) http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=293-682 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_radiator_(speaker) For those too lazy to click on the PR link "Passive radiators are used instead of a reflex port for much the same reasons—to tune the small volume and driver for better low frequency performance. Especially in situations i…

Hi guys, I was looking at the cut sheets for the fi Q 12 ported which is tunes to 32 Hz, and have a few question. what would I have to do, (if it can be done) to the same box, to tune it to 28 Hz? Or Would I have to build another box? Would you recommend tuning it to 28 Hz as opposed to 32 Hz ? What are the prows and cons? Thanks, Shopvac

I have a old kicker SX 1250.1 amp. its rated 1250+ at 1 ohmn. my question is what would be better for the sub and amp? 1 or 2 ohmn's? the 1 would be getting more watts so it would be louder but if i ever switch amps will that effect the 1 ohmn? the sub would be a 12in Fi BTl N1 sub, its rated at 2000rms, idk which to get 1 or 2?

Hey, I've been looking at Fi car audio for a while to help fix my BMW's horrible lack of bass. I was originally looking at the 12" Q but after reading around I decided that the BL would better suit my needs, I now am at this problem I know my trunk can fit the optimum box dimensions for the 10" and 12" but I dont really want to sacrifice all that space but then I want it to also to be hitting pretty hard. Also whats a good amp recommendation for the best price/performance

So the plan is to buy 2 Fi BL 12's dual 1ohm, with the cooling option and flat wind what is the new rms power rating (approx) I know it depends on the enclosure so optimal ported at 33hz. In a Jeep Grand Cherokee I plan on running the two on either a Re audio VLX-3DE or Hifonics BRZ2400 (2400 watts)

Hey, I'm wiring a 2ohm DVC Fi Q to a Sundown Audio SAX-1200D. Being a monoblock amp I don't know how to wire this properly. I've checked quiet a few of the websites with wiring diagrams but none of them are showing how to hook up to an amp with double connections ++ -- All they show are mono or multiple channel configurations. Currently the sub is wired following this diagram http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpg Looking directly at the side of the amp with speaker connections, brackets = [wire] [+] + [-] - I think with the way I have it wired that it's running @ 4ohm. The goal is 1ohm.…

I have a silverado extended cab and was wondering how you guys think this would sound with 2 ssd 10" powered by 900 watts rms @ 2 ohms http://subthump.com/Chevrolet-GMC-Sub-Boxes/Silverado-Sierra-Extended-Cab/99-06-GM-Extended-Cab-Dual-10-Downfire-With-Amp-Space.html The volume is more than what is recommended for the subs, would that be bad?

  17. Hey guys! I was wondering what any of you with a Q 18 set your crossover or lpf to? Also what type of crossover? Right now I have BW and LR filters to choose from, 6, 12, 18, or 24db/octave and 12 and 24db/octave, respectively. A simple frequency recommendation would be great though, hehe. I have tried many values from 70 to 180Hz but can't really decide. Are there any tests I could do to help me decide? Right now I have it at 127Hz 24dB LR which seems to be fine but I still feel indecisive. Thanks!

I bought a pair of the 10" BL's with the SPL option a few years ago, maybe 4. I have no use for them anymore as a burp only sub. Is there a way to change them to a musical and burp sub without having to change motors? I know the gap is pretty tight since it's a burp only sub, just not sure if it's as simple as buying a new recone or if it's more expensive.

Hey guys, Finally ordered my Q, 15" w Cooling+Spider... so pumped! but now I have a dilemma I have ported box that is built to the specs of 3ft. cubed @33hz, but wanted to know if I will hear any audible difference by going to a 3.5cube @33hz? Is it worth it for the Q? Goals are just to have the loudest setup given my amp (1500d sundown), sub, and trunk space Just wanna know what, if anything, i would be missing out by keeping the box at 3 cubes thanks

The motors on these woofers look almost identical. I know both woofers are made out of the same build house. Is there any difference in the motors? I know Xcon is more of a sound quality woofer, Im a owner, and the BTL is more of a SPL woofer. Is it the soft parts and the coil that make them sound different? Please excuse my ignorance on the subject.
