Hello all, I am wanting to purchase a bl 18, but possibly a q 18. The dimensions of the box i can make are around 16h 32.5w and 22d with the sub facing up. I have a couple of questions, first, does it sound better to have the port on the side of the box or going along the bottom? Secondly, would that be enough space, i calculated it to be around 5 cubes after speaker and port displacement. Lastly, this is going in a celica gt-s hatchback and i was wondering how much room do i need between the back of the car and the front of the box? I think with these measurements i left out like 6 inches between the two. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, Subs are 2 FI ssd 12 D2 BP Power . I know they are recomended for a 1.8 to 2.5cf box, Due to the room available I can only go up to 3.17cf after displacement and bracing with 50sqin of port. tuned to 33.5hz? Do they perform well in smaller than recomended enclosures? will be running about 2.5krms to them Thanks

Hey everyone. I am a new member but have been reading a lot of threads here for a while. I recently purchased a 12'' SSD with the copper coil option for my 03 S-10 ext cab. I plan on throwing the recommended RMS or more at it. I am now struggling to figure out what type of enclosure to build for it. I have read good things about sealed and ported for this subwoofer. My goal is to have a good sounding setup that has the potential to be loud if I felt the need. I want to build a ported enclosure but am afraid of port noise seeing the enclosure is in the cab with me. I can build a sealed enclosure also pending peoples thoughts on this. If anyone with knowledge on desig…

I just read about this sub at audiojunkies. I've got a pair of AA Atlases running free air in my little creampuff, a 94 Olds Cutlass Cierra. I'm thinking of replacing them with these. Any thoughts? I'm running 150w to each of the Atlases, I'll be doing the same to these. http://www.audiojunkies.com/blog/866#continued Thanks

Guys i am fully aware that the flatwind and the coppercoils are two options you can not get together... My question is why can they not be done together (i am trying to learn all i can about the build of these subs for sheer knowledge) ? I was guessing that scott hasn't found the right coil for the flatwind to get a favorable response to have both copper and flatwind.... And if there is any great advantages to having both, WILL they eventually be a way to get both options? And if you guys were to find a way to incorporate both will the Q later have an option for the copper coil (I suspect the Q has a flatwind on it, thus no option for a copper coil)?

So i got my 15Qd2, and it seems to be running pretty warm. No smoke or anything, just that when i get home from banging on it a bit it feels a little hot. Just got it two weeks ago so not sure if it's still just from breaking in, which i'm thinking not, or maybe from low voltage?? It's running off of a fosgate p1000-1bd and the gain is just over half and under 3/4. My lights do dim a lot when it hits. There is a little smell, but smells more like breaking in smell, not vc burning smell, hence no smoke and when i took it out a few days ago vc still looked brand new. Basically, any thoughts on getting the sub to run cooler?? I'm thinking this could become an issue if p…

so i want to keep as much of my trunk as possible, so what im woundering is. My old box was like a perfect square, if the new box is the same cubic feet, but more rectangle than square so it will stay in the rear of my trunk. How will that effect the sound?

Hey guys, Just wondering if you think I may have made a mistake with the 2 15's I am trying to squeeze into my car, I have a decent amount or room to play with... but do you think I should have went with 2 12's instead? Or do you think I should just throw the power at em and let it ride... My box will be around 8 cubes. My trunk is actually around 17-18 cubes, it's just that it has a tiny opening... do you think there will still be enough room for the air to move around in it... Thx Josh

Doing some box designs and wanted a little help on picking what hrtz to tune the box at. I read the post from Fi about tuning and it says anywhere beteween 30-37 hrtz. I will have around 8.5 cuft for each sub and wanted to hear some suggestions on tuning. The enclosure will have the ports facing twords the rear with the subs mounted on the top side of the enclosure. I listin to mostly rap music and want it to be loud as it can be. The subs will be pushed by 2 Alpine PDX 1000.1's for now, but down the road will be pushed by 2 PDX's on each 18 1 on each voice coil at 2ohms for a total of 2000 watts to each sub. Thanks, this site has helped me alot so far, the best sit…

Alright, so i finally have all the pieces together for the btl. Alternator, battery, amp, wiring, ect. So now to this whole... building my own box thing. i would prefer around 32hz and 7.5-8 ft^3 before displacements for sub and bracing. I have 3/4 inch MDF (its actually 11/16ths). So one question is how do i brace it properly? And... i need box calculations for a standard Sub facing up, port facing back of vehicle design. I really like Mac n' Cheese's idea of coating the inside of the box with resin, i might do that. so 7.5-8 cubic feet, 32hz, and the dimensions i have to work with in the back of my explorer are 44.5" wide, 25" tall, 22" deep. Maybe 30" tall if it make…

How much is one of those shipped to 68510? Also before you build it is it possible to have you guys put the biggest lead wires on there (like the ones you shipped me), because When I took mine apart to fix the wires it worked fine but the copper wire broke right next to the coil, and now I have no copper wire to solder the lead wires to. let me know if there is a way to fix this problem. Also would it be possible to send you the sub I have and get 2 10" Q's and a little bit more money in exchange? I think that I am going to go for sound quality this year, since I have a bigger car now. thanks Chris [email protected]

Just yesterday listening to my system, and my sub went out. I checked all the wiring and nothing looks loose. And I don't think I blew it because there was no smoke when it went out. Is there an easy way to tell if it's blown or not? Or if anyone might know what is wrong here, please let me know. The sub is a 12" fully loaded BTL that I bought this summer. Any answers or suggestions are greatly appreciated. And if there's anything else that you need to know, feel free to ask. Thank you.

Just would like some info on how to tune my box correctly. I see these "port calculators" all over the Internet and wonder if they're even reliable.. I'm looking on making a slot port about 12.5"high x 4"wide. The dimensions of the box are 35" wide, 14" high, 20" depth. (outside dimensions). Thanks in advance

I want to buy Q 10's. I am looking at ported box specs and there is a pretty wide range. I am looking for flat response and good SQ with a punch. I listen to metal and rap mostly depending on the day. They will each get 1000 watts in the trunk of Grand Prix. i was looking to do 28.75 sq inches of port for both, will that be enough, or will i benefit from upping it to 31.625

This is my original plan and am wanting to make sure this is my best option for Loud and clean bass. I was used to running 1 Audioque 15" ported at 29hz in 7.5cu ft box off of 1400w, it was ungodly! Current setup - 1 Audioque 15" Sealed in 2.2 cu ft off of 1400w. It is a little less loud in the low frequency area due to a lot lower group delay as well but like how it sounds as well. Anyways, my current project is to have 3 12" Qs off of 3 optidrive 2000ds. Each q would be wired to 0.35ohms all in a common chamber sealed box roughly 2-2.4cu ft stuffed with polyfill (emailed fi about this to see what they say bout the polyfill). Now, these amps are rated at doind 1,600w at…

  24. I wanna get a box built for my civic but don't know wtf to look for. Ok some info I plan on getting 1 fully loaded 15" btl when they update the site, and I wanna run at the most 2000w to it. Right now I only got an 800w amp but I plan on upgrading to a rockford fosgate t20001bd within a month. I also wanted to go ported instead of sealed on the box and I'm not to sure what Hz I should go with. Damn I feel so loss but I guess we all gotta start somewhere. So I'd appreciate the help and if more info is needed I'll give it. Thanks in advance
