Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. I posted something simular to this and it didn't get enough results, so I thought I'de re-frase the topic being I didn't get enough feedback lol. So here we go again lol. A friend of mine is doing a budget system and wants some good coaxle's. He just wants a pair of 3 way 6x9s for the rear and 5 1/4s for his front doors. He has the same car as me but an 03 Corolla and just wants some speakers to power off his deck that'll be able to take a beating and doesn't care about his speakers having much bass being his box does. He just wants something durable. So far the brands we're looking at are JL Audio, Kicker, MTX, Alpine, JBL. The speakers don't have to be cheap. He …

I had an SSA Icon 12 in my car for about a year on 1200w RMS. The sub was in a 2.5ft^3 box tuned to 33 hz and it was definitely the most musical sub i have ever listened while dropping an insane amount on lows. I sold the sub a few months ago, ordered an Xcon 15, and built a 5ft^3 box tuned to 33hz again. The sub arrived yesterday packaged inside a crate that was inside a box lol. This thing must not have moved an INCH. The suspension on this sub is STIFF. Most definitely the stiffest suspension I have felt. Anyways, after hooking it up to my MB Quart Onx2000.1, I can say this thing is...well for lack of a better word...a MONSTER. The move up in cone area and power defin…

I'm looking for a decent sub that i could possibly find on the internet for cheap with no warranty or anything. This sub is temporary so i'm not concerned about the sub blowing in a short amount of time; i just need it to last until this summer. I'm concidering buying 2 kicker cvr 12's...they are like $80 a piece...does anyone know of a sub that would be better around the same price range maybe $20-$50 more expensive btw i have a box that is like 2.5 cubic feet per chamber and the port is tuned to 33 hz according to an online tuning calculator

  4. If the human ear is unable to detect the direction ot true mid bass (below 250 hz), why not run a single 8" woofer in the rear deck of my challenger to compliment the 6 1/2' component set up front and 12" sub in the trunk? I bought a 5 channel Boston GTA amp super cheap and could car less about rear fill, but would like better mid bass response. Please tell me why I'm crazy. p.s.There is no way in hell my wife would ever let me chop up the doors to put a pair of 8"s there, and I am not running active.

So, a friend of mine who I havent seen in some time recently told me that he is in an urgent need of cash so he is selling all his car stuff. I didnt see anything interesting. Then he told me about his subs. He has 2 12inch MMATS Dreadnauts in a custom made, ported box. Each sub retails for $500 (woofersetc.com) + the enclosure which he says cost him an extra $350. He told me (a week ago) he would give them to me for $600, I said no. Then recently, we talked about again. He ended up lowering the price down to $300. Now, when we reached that price I said to myself "let me ask in the forums to see if its a good idea". To me, Im guessing it would be an upgrade no matter what…

Alright, so somebody in my class is looking for a subwoofer for his 1500 reg. cab. He will most likely need a shallow mount subwoofer im thinking, but i havent been able to find a build log of a regular cab so i can get some ideas for where the box is placed ect. Im not really knowledgeable on shallow mount subwoofers so id think id ask you guys. He was looking for about a 12" or 15" sub. If you need more information just ask.

  13. Hello all, A few years back my subwoofer and head unit was stolen so I've been out of the bass game for some time. Luckily, my amps were left behind as they were in the false floor in my Xterra. Am looking to get a new head unit and subwoofer/box. I currently am using an Alpine MRD M1005 amp and want to wire at 2ohms to deliver 1k watts rms. I am looking for something that slams hard and clean, and I listen mostly to hip hop/rap/rock/alt rock type of music. I am also open to building a ported or sealed box - although I may prefer sealed for ease of construction and to save space in my Xterra. If I go ported - I am not sure which direction to fire the sub as I've…

I have an sundown 1500d and wanted to know what sub(LVL 4, LVL 4/5 coils, and LVL 4XL) fits that amp the best? I may upgrade to more power in a couple years if i feel the need. Also what are the sound/musical differences and quality? This will be a daily/groundpounder. i thinking about getting a used LVL4/5coil 15" for $200 locally. I'm thinking about going with a 15". and if Rusty can send me a price for each shipped to 94579. Thanks.

the diamond audio d3 12's i'm getting are asking for 2 cubes in a ported enclosure.... well I have some extra room and I made up some plans for a box that's 3 cubes and ported at 34 htz..... is going bigger than the recommended volume actually worse? same thing for the tuning freq..... i don't know what they're SUPPOSED to be tuned at, but i think their response is 25-250... so i thought 34 would be low enough to make 'em pound... what do you think?

  18. Would the 15 work ok in a smaller than 3.0 cu ft box? The price is very right, and i have heard the SQ rivals the IDQ, but i don't know if i want to fit that large of a box. That would be nearly double the size of my 1.6 ported 12RLP. So if i went sealed i could save some space, but would that be any louder than my ported RLP? Also, would i lose SQ to the RLP?

I ended up getting a good deal on the Digital Designs component set today so I bought them. 6.5" Mids along with the tweeters, and all x-overs. My question being, does any here have experience with them...how do they perform...and what are your opinions on them? I'd like to get some other peoples opinions on them... I have a Soundstream 4 channel to push them....and my last question being...as long as I sound deaden the doors, will fitting them in the stock location be sufficient for great sound, or do I need to build pods for them....? Thanks for your help in advance..

I have a set of PPI 356CS components up front and they sound wonderful, but after tuning my amp with my DD-1 I found that the tweets just aren't capable of handling the power i'm giving them. I'm running them off a CDT Audio SQ4100 at 4 x 100....the comps are rated at 120rms per side so i'm not able to turn them up as loud as I should be able before the tweets just start screaming and sounding nasty so I want to upgrade the tweets with something that'll fit into the existing hole in my door panel (am willing to do a little mods to get it to fit if needed). So I'd like a tweet that can handle at least 90rms and isn't very deep, I only have about 1.5" clearance back there. …

Well, finally got the two Mach 5 15's in my 98 F150 ext cab today. They are in 6cuft tuned at 30 hz. First off, the woofers are just plain sexy. So simple, not over the top, and solid. After I got them installed I played a few bass test tracks and couldn't believe how clean they were... Now i've never owned a super expensive sq woofer by anymeans, but these compared to my 12 w3s from a little while back blow them away in the sq department. As for the myth of no sq with ported, throw that out the window with this woofer. It is a litte boomy at some notes, but not enough to distract, just enough to notice if you are looking for it. Now, as for being loud.. they can do that …
