Subwoofers / Speakers

Do birch wood speaker spacers need to be waterproofed? i went to local installer and they said they would use MDF and not waterproof them, just paint them with regular paint. but i said i would need them waterproofed so they dont soak up water so they went ahead and used birch wood speaker spacer instead. these fine, if not waterproofed or treated? and i heard these woods have harmful chemicals in them? or is that only when cutting them? and should be fine if installed in car, but not being cut?

i was lookin for a new woofer to use for an occasional comp but omstly jus the loudest system around. 1 15" woofer will be runnin it off of a Hifonics 1800D amp. i am kind of a newbie and i was think of getting an 18 ssd fully load with a 1800 watt kenwood amp wired to 1 ohm @ roughly 1000 watts RMS. in a 6 cu. Ft. box tuned to 26 hz. do you think it would be louder then 3 cheap 12's

Figure this is as good a time as any to beseech some of you for your opinions on the matter of trying to match a few different subwoofer choices with a couple different amplifier configurations... I just recently got a Zed Minotaur III (not II, not a typo) and am so far loving what it has done for my DC Audio Level 2 10". Even after a couple days of use, I know this is an amp I can keep in my lineup for quite some time and I've definitely been bit by the Zed bug as a result of it. ok so i looked around and found some speakers i like. they are Hi Vi D6.8 and SEAS 29TAFW. i plan on running 4 of the hi vi and 2 seas' up front. what type of crossover would i need to make this compatible?

would 4 Hifonics HFX12D4 ported @ 30hz on a 1500d be louder than my 2 skar 12's on the same amp in a wagon.

should i get a 15" xxx or 2 12" se's i will be powering these with a bx1500d i am looking for about 60/40 spl/sq (if i go with the 2 12"'s wouldnt i be over powering them?)

First off I want to start out by saying a big Thank You to Nick for the oppurtunity to demo the proto. Now on to business. There is a defect (if you call it) in this proto. Nick can explain it better, and has in other threads. but the VC makes a weird noise at high excursions do to a bad chrome job and it leaking onto the pole,etc. But this will not be presant in the 15s when produced. So as to performance of the driver, I was expecting a bit better than my current Mag but to my surprise it was way more than just a bit better. wondering how and if the BM would be a good choice to put in a HT setup? I am going to build a sub for my HT soon and am looking for a good woofer. I LOVE my mag, absolutely LOVE IT! and am anxious to get one of the new ones most likely. But lets hear it, would the BM do the job right for HT?

Well, I posted the Uber for sale on CA.com and SD figuring it would get snatched up quick. I have a TON of interest, but the caliber of the interested parties is rather well, eh. I see now why Josh sold them the way he did. So, now I am stuck with a dilemma. I don't really want to use this in-car because of the worry of theft. Doing a little cleaning and I found these. No idea where I got them or what they are.

I'm driving to work,all of a sudden NO bass.Well I get to work,pop the trunk and see the sub sitting upright next to box.The driver came loose from the box,I could not believe my eyes.Later that evening when I got home I screwed the sub back onto the box,turned the system on,went back to trunk,all I hear is rattling.Man I'm so pissed,anyways I emailed Nick to find out how much it would cost to fix,lets see what happens.Man I love that sub and just got the Brutus for it too,just had to let it out,thanx for listening !

When I was planing out my current system, I almost (like had them in the cart and didn't buy) some planar transducers and glassed them up on the A pillars or in the kicks of my Yukon. I decided against them based on some things I read about the diaphragm being so fragile. I read claims about air and heat damaging the diaphragm so I decided against that. I did have a set of Infinity towers way back that had a EMIT ribbon and I really enjoyed the sound. Unfortunately me being young and not having enough power on tap, I blew the EMIT's a couple of times and finally sold them for something that would get louder on my power. What's up guys!! It's been a good while since I've been on here. I've been building my powerstroke and working so iv kinda moved away from audio but today I bought me a nice 2008 fusion daily driver and want to know, what's some new good stuff out there now? Want a pair of 12s. Nothing crazy. Only have around 2000 watts to push them with. What's every one think? Anyone have anything for sale?

Not sure if this has been asked before. But I have been considering going with a 15" mag. I know ported is louder. I am just wondering how much or if you loosing power handling going ported. I know that different size sealed boxes do change your power handling. Smaller boxes will require more power do to the compression the speaker is under when it pulls back for a bass hit. Also thinking about going with 34hz tune if I do go ported. What amp would guys recommend for a setup like that and i dont plan on going to a bass comp. But wouldn't mind having the power to show off once in a while.

Hello all, what's good.. I have been running a 2005 RE xxx 15 in a Powered for Sound snail shell enclosure for over 3 years off of a hifonics brutus bx1500d at one ohm. I am pretty sure this enclosure has a tuning of somewhere around 27-28hz...This is the frequency range that my subwoofer moves the least at when playing sine waves. I think 28hz is also the FS of the 2005 xxx 15. Anyway, I am tired of the overly-loud, and sometimes sloppy bass that ported enclosures offer. Time to go sealed. What are your guys thoughts on the ID Max 12'. What do you think of the company. and is the sub more for big bass or sound quality? Would 500 watts of JL be enough. Found it for $358 on http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSIDMAX12V3D4. Is there any where cheaper?

before..... after.... well i had to send one of my 6.5's in to RE so i decided it would be a perfect time to mess w/ these. i had a couple of gouges where the screw driver had hit it. i also added about a 2" hole in the back of each one. i haven't got to here both of them together but from what i can tell, the one 6.5 has as much midbass as the both of them together...

after about 8 months of playin my hifonics Goliath 1600 on a hifonics brutus 2000d, the spider has loosened out. no ripping it just came off clean. since the sub was put in the car at lower frequencies a smell was givin off smelling like the newness coming out. but it has been doin it since. sub is out waiting to repair. any theories on the smell?(not burning smell) and has this happened to anyone else with hifonics products?
