Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. Started by Doctor Q,

So i have to re-do my system and for my parents sake, they wont let me go above 800 watts. So for 800 watts, i want to get (mainly) as loud as possible without sounding like straight up garbage. Right now I think im going to get 2 12" subwoofers unless someone here convinces me otherwise. I've found a few possible options but would like to hear what you guys think. Also need an amp to match the subs, preferably one that isn't to power hungry so that it doesn't affect my battery/alternator to bad. Here are my thoughts now: SUBS: 1) 2 12" Dcons 2) 2 12" RE SRx's (possibly 3 12"s) 3) 2 12" Revolution Design Sonance V2s AMPS: 1) Soundstream REF4.760 2) Planet Audio AP800.4 (…

i was just wondering what the best 12" subs i could buy for no more than $350 each would be that can take 1kw rms daily? i am looking for a hybrid of sq and spl ... i listen to hip hop and techno ... i love my lows but i also like that punchy techno bass ... my icons seem to be very picky with music choice ... some songs get real loud while others sound less loud than my 4 old 12s running off of 1.3kw rms total ... the subs will be in a 5.7 cubic ft enclosure

  5. Hello, I am buying a 15" Xcon for a friend of mine(he gives me the cash, it's really not a gift !!!). He builds enclosure for some shops around here. He has a 15" Kicker S15L7 in a 6 ft3 sealed enclosure with about 1300watts rms of power. It's the best sounding L7 I've ever heared : huge amount of bass, great low end notes,... How can he achieve that with the Xcon ? Would it be better with a sealed or a ported enclosure? Few people seems to use the Xcon in sealed boxes, how is the output in sealed boxes ? He has a little trunk, the 6ft3 enclosure takes all of it! We made some mesurements, and here is what he can afford now : 35cm*49cm*80cm or in inches : 14" * 19.6" * 32…

i sold my friend my old pioneer ts-w3002d4 subs and a hifonics bxi2006d amp ... i had 4 of these subs wired for 2 ohm in my car (didnt feel like waiting a month for the d2 ohms) and i had them facing up in a sealed box and the excursion was great on them even with roughly 1300 watts at 2 ohm ... we built a ported box tuned to 28hz facing the trunk and now the subs barely move at 1 ohm with 2000 watts powering them ... why is this? i checked the ohm load and it is indeed 1 ohm

So I bought 2 15" polk/momo subs off crutchfield (way before I found this site) and they rock my Geo very well. The other morning on the way to work (my beautiful biweekly commute from Sac to Fresno, Ca on the nasty smelling 99) bumping as usual, I smelled something funny besides the highway and quickly realized it was the subs. I know I had too much power going to them ( Hifonics BXI2006) from the start but used it anyway. So before I could turn it down the subs shut off...then the smoke started coming from the port holes and I thought the box was going to start on fire driving down the road! So today I pulled the speakers out to expecting to find something fried but..…

  12. Ive been told through another post I need to stick to Atomics enclosure reccommendation to get the most out of my APX 18 the enclosure info says sub and port displacement is already figured in their equation which is APX18-ported 6.0ft3 (40six10”long) ( 32Hz)=5000w (SB) So do I figure 6 cubes as if it was sealed then do the port to fit their req.? and I dont know how to read thier port rec. I see a 10" long port, 6" wide, but whats the 40. or is it 6" in height? Please help so I can get this box built! Or if someone wants to give me an easy out and tell me exact outside measurements (.75 MDF.) I have up to 50" in width, 25" in height and 19" depth. Thanks guys!!!

  13. A while back I ordered a custom recone kit going from a single 2 to a dual 2 coil, and I was wondering if there would be any noteable increase in power handling, Mms, and efficiency as well as a lowering in Fs since there will be double the coil... but I think i was mostly told not enough to be note worthy. Later on I painted the cone, and suddenly I was being told I would totally mess up the drivers SQ and SPL by adding mass and making the cone stiffer (obviousely mostly by noobs and tards) Anyway, Exodus Audio's GEN II Maelstrom-X came out. Basically the only change was going from a single 4 to a dual 2 coil. The added coil length was enough that they changed the power …

I've been going back and forth between what subs to get for about a year now, and still have no idea what to get. So my ? is, what is everyone's def of sq, meaning whats the difference is sound? Between the audioque hdc, ia dp, nightshade, xcon, everyone wrote back xcon ftw, but when I look on audioque's website, they have a guy winning sq comps, Nick at ia said they have ppl running dp for sq, I've read nightshades were better than those two, and the xcon would have the best sq, but mabye not have the spl as the others??? I think the sub will go as low as the fs?? maybe lower, so the xcon ftw.... but I want to make sure its the loudest as possible too. I'm guessing I w…

So I'm thinking of getting the Lvl 4 12" for my single cab and have designed this Downfiring Enclosure with Port up enclosure. Box is 2.00 Cu. Ft. tuned to 35 Hz. (After Wood & Port Displacement).26 Sq Inches of Port, 21 inches in length. The Website says it recommends 1.5^3 Ported and 2.0^3 For SPL. Does this box look alright.?? Do you guys think 2 Cubes is enough?(If not I think I can squeeze out more space somewhere.) I also wanted to know what the sub displacement is for the Level 4 12"? Thanks, Danny

Including batteries, subs, amps, alts, etc, what is the best way i could get a decent hairtrick done without spending $7,000? I would prefer quality brands like kinetik, fi, re, hifonics is fine if the amp is worth it, im sure you all know which brands are good enough just no sony explod shit lol. Since im in a car right now and looking for an suv, i can't say which suv exactly but probably like a trailblazer or explorer or something that this equipment would go in. Thanks

Hey Mark, I still haven't used my SPL-12s that you sold me about a year or more ago. Haha. I remember you mentioning something about the SPL-12s popping the dustcap off when they are pushed? You said drill holes in the dust cap, I can do that carefully, but is there a specific pattern or anything like that? I want to make it look neat, not look like somebody attacked my subs with a drill, haha. I'm not sure how far I'm going to push these, this is just for reference.

i wanted to mount another set of tweeters in my door just to even out my h/u as i have my mids in the rear running off the rear outputs .... i was looking for a pair of tweeters under $100 ... they are running off the h/u so they will not be seeing over 20 rms ... i dont know if it makes a difference but all the tweeters up front are silk dome ... should the pair i am looking for be silk dome? ... also they need to not stick out so much as when i had boomer mcloud cut a hole for the door they cut it so close the the tweeter hits when the door closes ... it dosent tend to be a problem if the tweeter does not protrude to much and has some form of protective grille over it .…
