Subwoofers / Speakers

Major lurker for a while. Love the site. Posted a few times, but I suck. Anyway. I was considering three subs: FI Q, SSA Icon, and SI Magnum (new one). I have a LOT of rap music, and when I play it I of course I want it to sound nice. However, the rap music I like is mostly bay area rap and older rap (94-98) and the bass lines aren't always the Jeezy, Weezy, whatever the hell loud ones. But when I'm cruising solo, I mostly listen to Soul (60s/70s), R&B (classic and contemporary), and Jazz. Listening to this kind of music doesn't usually ring the subwoofer bell for most people, but can a sub be a valuable asset to these genres? Are there any suggestions on how to …

With me, with most things I learn by taking them apart and reassembling them. Thats how I got into computers. I took a few old ones apart and reassembled them. I'd kind of like to do the same thing with a sub. Of course I'm not going to tear apart my brand new SPL-12s.(still havent arrived though) I've watched the Discovery Channel video about how a subwoofer goes to together, but thats not enough for me. I have a very nice SQ system already installed, but I'm going to work on the sub section to add more output. Intially, the sub/subs will just be in a standard MDF box in the trunk. I need help choosing a sub/subs for this project...that's where you guys come in. I'm going to be installing my focal ps165 component set into my 03 tahoe. My plans are to use the supplied crossovers. I will be using a baffle and possibly deaden the doors in the near future when time and money allow. I have seen several installs in tahoes where they mount the tweeter right above the mid in the doors. My vehicle has room for that but came factory with tweets in the pillars. Not sure which route to take. Doors or pillars? I have read where putting them with the mid is best? I know this may boil down to personal preference but I don't exactly know what to expect from either.

Well i got my D2 in today and it looks pretty beefy, and...plain lol. I installed it and it sounds really good, I love the sound and how clean it stays while hitting hard. my question is what kind of logo should I put on the sub? And is there a site I can go to that will make me a logo of some sort? Any ideas guys...

midbass(6x9"s too he says) highs and it seems the "highs" are sharing airspace with the subs

As I mentioned a few threads down, my sub sounded like it was blown or there was a really bad air leak. One of the coils comes in at 2 ohms and the other is at 17-32 ohms. Look at the pics below of this coil, has this ever happened before????? The lead that was intersown came loose and where it was sown in, there is now a rip This is me pushing down to try to show just how bad the rip is. What exactly happened here?

does anyone know about audiopulse/ tcsounds subs? are they any good?

I just got home from a 16hr day at work. This iwas delivered. first impression, good build quality, heavier than expected 29lbs, sharp looking cone and very stiff. So needless to say this put a smile on my face. Now I just need some time to make a few enclosures and test it out. I am thinking one 1ft^3 sealed and the other 2ft^3 30sq in of port tuned to 32-34hz. I will either run it off my SAZ 3000d @ 4ohms or a PG Tantrum 1200.1 @ 4ohms. Maybe this weekend I will have some time. Chad

So my cousin sold me his RE SE 12 for 60 dollars saying it was popped well it's not realy popped but the coils are pretty dark. So either way I am going to RECONE it from FI. I am planning to throw 1000wrms what options should i add for that extra power handling. im rebuilding my whole setup in my 86 camaro the only thing im keeping is the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X891 deck. what would be 2 good 12's and amp 4 the hatch. i want something that hits very hard but still has great sq right now i got 2 re audio re12's in a bandpass box running off a sony 1000w amp and i want louder. i think about $1000 will be my limit 4 both subs and amp.

as stated in the topic description, i listen to alot of rock music along with rap and country. i have some eD 6000's in the doors of my 94 chevy that i personally cut holes for. it used to have 4x6's in the dash that sounded crappy. i also put some rainbow 5.25's in the rear panels, its an ext cab, not sure wut model the rainbows are, 100 bux on ebay. anyway, im lookin for more midbass when listening to rock music. i have a XXX 18 and an FI BTL 18.
