what the main diffences and how do u go about both an active and passive system. which is more effective? which is more expensive? im runing polk db 5.25s in the door and db1000 tweets in the sails. i was thinking about amping them and runing new mids because with the tweeters on the coaxils and the extra tweets in the sails it gets alittle to bright. also i have a lack of midrange to mid bass. sould i just amp them and see how it sounds or replace them with a new pair.... i heard aa is putin out some new mids but what would u all suggest.

Hey Guys I'md so exited I will be picking up my IP G37s 6mt on Wednesday and the first mod I want to do is add an amplified sub enclosure to add some bass to the Bose system. I am looking for clean sound with a good amount of kick for a budget while I save up for my full audio system upgrade. I have listed my 2 choices below with links any advice would be great. Well i got my MJ-18 4ohm last week or so and i had the day off today so i made a box for it, 26 in. wide, 23in. high, 18in. deep, box volume 4.52 (ft3), tuned to 25 hz, 3?4 M.D.F. and no stuffing. Well, when i used an amp that i had pushing a C.V. 15in., just a plain 300 watt 4ohm plate amp and it did dent sound good at all, put the amp back to the 15 and it sounded great. Hooked up the 18 to a amp in my truck and still sounded like crap. What to do What to do? I put a few pics up in the subs area.

Planning on running two SA-15s probably off something like this http://www.sonicelec...-BK1300.1D.html in the back of a 2000 ford focus wagon. Would subs like these require an alternator upgrade or would they run fine off stock, and also if SA reccomends a 3.0-4.0 ft^3 @ 35hz ported box for one sa-15; around what size do you think two of these would require? And would a box that big fit in the back of a ford focus? Any help and suggestions on things I havent asked here are also appreciated !

Right now am looking at using a pair of components up front and a pair of coaxial in the back (Ext. Cab Dodge Dakota). So my question is which setup would be best for sound quality: 1) Audioque AQG-6.5 Component Set and Focal Access 165 CA1 = $350.00 total 2) Focal 165 A1 Component Set and Focal Access 165 CA1 = $450 total 3) JL Audio TR650-CSi Component Set and JL Audio C2-650x = $400 total This is what i came up with, just need to know which set these would do the job. I also have the power to use any setup.

I've posted elsewhere but am hoping for more input. I'm changing/adding subs on a budget and I have it narrowed down to a few, but would like people's opinions on them. Car is a 2013 Elantra sedan, factory HU, using a basic LOC for signal. Will run 1/0 power wire. Amp will be a Taramps, model dependent on sub(s). I'll be building an mdf enclosure, probably ported. I listen to a mix of rap/dubstep/alt rock. Just a daily SQ system. Based on my budget and space limitations, I can do 2-12s using a pair of Ampere 2.5RVE or D.C. Level 2, or I can do a single 12 using either a Skar VXF, FI XV3, SSA Gcon or SSA Icon. What I'm really after is, are there any signif…

Hey guys, I have a dilemna. I have the room to fit any size sub, but i don't really know the pro and cons of each size. The amp is either going to be 1500d or a alpine 1000 watt. The 8 inch subs will either be rl-i 8's or RE 8's. The enclosure is going to be an infinite baffle downfiring kinda like this: *pic of shimajer on e46fanatics (hope he doesn't mind) Thanks.

I am working on ordering some subwoofers for my new boat. I have limited areas and based on my rough measurements (I am going to go get more accurate ones as soon as the dealer has the boat inside) I should have about 2.7 cubic feet per sub before displacement (2 seperate boxes of different dimensions and I may have more like 3 cubes, but am working on the short side based on the measurements I have). I will be powering them with a Exile 2500.1 which puts out 2500 watts rms @ 1ohm (plan to run two dual 1 ohm subs so I can wire them to a 1 ohm load on the amp). I know the Q is 1000 watts RMS and the Xcon 1750. Will 1250 be enough for the Xcon? I have read such great th…

so, I went to my local car audio shop and was getting a box built for my maw-15's that would fit in the trunk of my '06 Pontiac G6. And obviously thats going to be impossible trying to build a box to the rec. specs for the maw-15's. Anyway. He then turned me on to alternative route. Groundpounders from Crunch Audio. Now I will probably keep my Maw's in my Taurus, but for the G6 I was intrigued with the things he told me. The Subs look quite stout. So I was considering going with a 2x 12" GP12D2 setup or a 3x GP10D2 setup. Not sure what would be better. Or if thats even good at all. Im currently in college so money is tight. but with the $65 pricetag at onlinecarstereo.com…

Up until recently Ive been thinking about going with a single 12" BL, SX, LVL4 XL, or BTL. But now after talking to Rusty, Im thinking anout going with 2 10s instead. Im still currently in the planning stage and i wanted some imput on what to do. Ill have roughly 2.5ft?^3 to work with under my back seat after I lift it 2 inches. I mainly listen to rap, and my goals are to get loud and low. ill currently do not have an amp, but ill be matching the amp to the sub/s.

Will 480 watts be a sufficient amount of power for this sub? What's the best box I should use for this amount of power? I was thinking the recommended 2 cubic foot tuned to 29Hz would be a good choice but was wondering if there's anything else I should consider if I purchase one of these subs. Thanks.

okay, i have gotten myself confused here, need some help fellars. oh, and only moderate flamming of the equipment here, it is not mine! lol American Legacy LA-2278 amplifier, 2 ohm stable @ 450 watts....... Three(3) Kicker CompVR 12"s , I believe they are 2 ohm DVC., 400 W.RMS...... If they are indeed 2 ohm. DVC., I will wire them parallel / series, so a 3 ohm. load on the amp..... if for some reason we find that they are 4 ohm. DVC., then the wiring will be series / parallel , which is a 2.67 ohm. load. ........ the question is, how many watts will the subs be seeing? I am assuming that there is a good chance that the amp will not do it's true rated power, but for all g…

OK, so before everyone starts about how overpriced these subs are for what you get, I have a question. My friend bought one 13 W7 about 2 years ago and he's looking to sell it now...gettin married, well you know how that goes. Anyways he said if I was interested he would take $350 for it. Im pretty sure it hasn't been abused cause he usually treats his stuff good and also I know for a fact he was powering it with some type of Power Acoustik amp. Either way it probly wasnt seeing 1000 watts. Im gettin a newer car for college graduation and wanted to start with a totally different setup, replacing all the speakers in whatever it is that I get. Ive only heard one of th…

I've been searching all over here and CA.com for vented box specs for my Mag. I've tried using the box calculator at subwoofertools.com and I keep coming up with ~73in^3 of port area. From reading around it seems like I should be closer to the low-mid 60s. Am I correct or should I just stick with the plans swt.com is giving me?

I realize the opinions here may be a bit swayed (kinda like asking Bush if our entering into Iraq was a positive decision) but I am curious if any of you have applications similar to my proposed. Firstly, I by no means have a golden ear, but am picky enough to want a high level of SQ. However, I am also wanting something that will shut up the young punk sitting next to me if need be. My proposed application will be under the rear seat of my Quad Cab in a ported fiberglass enclosure (at least 2 cu ft) and proper tuning. I will be pushing the 12" sub with an Avionixx 800.2 which does 800 @ 4. Anything similar out there?
